Which actors can you not stand?

Jennifer Garner.

The capital one commercials drive me insane. "And may it please the court"
I like her generally, but yes in those commercials she is super annoying.

I find Terrence Howard's acting annoying. When he does a dramatic, emotional scene he does the same mannerisms and quivering voice and it just comes off as scene chewing. He was on Oprah many years ago and talked about some incident from his childhood and he had the exact same mannerism/voice tics.

OK I tried to trudge through the posts but couldn't get past one more "actors should just shut up and entertain".

Mayim Bialik has a PhD in Neuroscience
Danica McKellar (Winnie from The Wonder Years) is a mathematician who authored a theorem with two other mathematicians
Graham Chapman (of Monty Python fame) had his MD
Ken Jeong also has his MD
Shaquille O'Neal has a PhD in Education
James Franco has a masters degree from Columbia U and is currently working on a PhD
Natalie Portman has a degree in Psychology
Carrie Underwood graduated Magna Cum Laude from Northeastern U, degree in Mass Communcations
Rebel Wilson has a law degree
Lisa Kudrow has a degree in Biology
David Duchovny has a masters in English Lit
Ashton Kutcher studied Biochem
Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) has a degree in Criminology\

These aren't honorary degrees. A good number of these folks are smarter than 75% of the people on this board. To assume that because they choose to be performers, they aren't smart enough/worthy of political opinions or expertise outside of acting is ludicrous.

What difference does it make if they have a degree or not? To quote Shania Twain, "That don't impress me much" LOL. Maybe if you had never known someone with a degree, it might take on some sort of mystical importance and imply wisdom. But most everyone I know has a degree. They are just normal people. In fact, two of them make up 2 out of 3 of the biggest doofuses I have ever known, so. Keep your voting private and get on with your day. No one should care how anyone else votes.

None of these people are a celebrity because of their education and none of them are considered political experts. Any actor pontificating about politics is just soap boxing for their personal egos and gain.

I am honestly perplexed by this post. So a celebrity doesn't have the right to believe in anything?

So the answers here are interesting. Some people are answering based on performance, others are answering based on personality. And I think sometimes they mix. For example, if you don't like Whoopie Goldberg because of her political opinions, does that shade your opinion of her acting?

Kevin Spacey comes to mind. I think he's a good actor, but he's a creep. Same with James Woods. Tom Cruise is a weirdo, but he's very entertaining!

Hayden Christianson isn't someone I have any problem with at a personal level, but he was terrible as Anakin Skywalker.

Sandler is hit and miss to me. I don't find him a particularly likable person, and I'm not a big fan of him in particular roles.

At what point does an artist's art get affected by their personal actions?

Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein are both convicted rapists. Woody Allen has been accused of sexual assault although not convicted. Michael Jackson had been repeatedly accused of pedophilia. Pete Townsend was convicted for possession of child porn. Pablo Picasso was a huge misogynist. Ernest Hemingway spied for the KGB.

I don't find his monologues or much of his other content funny, and as an interviewer, he repeatedly interrupts his guests and comes off as insincere. Much of the focus is on games and gimmicks which serve to compensate for the lack of clever banter with guests.

Oh, I forgot about Ripa! Agree.

When I found out she snubbed Regis after he retired from Live!, I was not a fan. But when she had a tantrum about Strahan? Nope. :sad2: As Mr. Wonderful would say, "she's dead to me."

I can't stand Strahan. He just drives me nuts. Can't stand listening to him talk. (you have all that money - get to a speech therapist!) - mean I know!

Matthew McConaughey
I agree. Everything Matthew McConaughey says manages to sound both smarmy and oafish at the same time!

Not generally a fan of Will Farrell or Jim Carrey's over-the-top comedic style but I have seen moves that they... uh... didn't ruin. I enjoyed "Stranger than Fiction" with Will Farrell quite a bit. And Jim Carrey was way better in "The Majestic" and "The Truman Show" than most of his normal stuff.

I agree that they are entitled to their opinions. However, I have no interest in their opinions unless it is about the roles they are playing or projects they are involved with. If they are an expert in a particular field, such as those you listed, and they are discussing their specialty, then it would depend on whether I had an interest in that particular field as well. Those discussions would tend to be more factual than just an opinion. My opinion is no more or less important than the opinion of any celebrity, whether it’s politics, fashion, health, or any other subject. We are all equal when it comes to opinions. Facts are another story . . .
That works out because no politicians, currently in our sights, care about our opinion either. That doesn't mean we don't have a solid understanding of the happenings. We only do our jobs for about 1/3rd of your workday. What do they or we do the other 16 hours. Shut the brain off so we cannot be knowledgeable of some topic other then our own occupations. They have a forum and are recognized but most of all they are American Citizens and are given the right to varying degrees of interest in our Government. Maybe the rest of us should have a stronger interest as well. Maybe no one will say to us... just shut up and do your job because that is the only thing they are qualified to do.

I agree that everyone is entitled to have an opinion on any subject. However, just because someone has a career that allows them to speak to thousands of people doesn’t automatically make their opinion more valid than yours or mine, and it doesn’t turn their opinion into fact. I research things on my own, and form my own opinion based on that factually supported research. My opinion may or may not agree with prominent celebrities, because it’s mine. I agree that more people should be getting involved. They should be doing the research, and forming their own opinions instead of just blindly following the opinions of others. If a famous celebrity said they found the fountain of youth and all you had to do was drink arsenic three times a day, there would be people who would try it because they don’t take the time to find out arsenic is a poison. So I dislike celebrities who get on a soapbox and speak as if their opinions are facts, regardless of the subject, and mislead people who are too lazy to check things out. There are plenty of celebrities who manage to keep their opinions private, and I respect that.
