Would you switch to TA to get codes?

My notes from last year (yes, I've been planning my Oct 05 trip for over a year) tell me that the codes for October 04 came out on August 25. I was all revved up to wake up early to check the boards and start calling, until . . .

I realized we are going to be on a long-standing vacation in WV with family - where cellular phone service is sketchy, no phones in rooms - our family spot says they now have wireless internet in the lobby, but last time I was in a hotel with wireless, I still couldn't get my laptop to pick it up -

So my dilema is whether to switch to a TA - I guess I would have to book with a TA, cancel my own WL reservation (I don't think Disney will let me have 2 ressies in the system) and let a TA try for the codes in August -

What would you do?

My experience was this: I booked myself for our April trip to "the world". When I decided to go with Dreams (Sue Ellen) I already had a deposit in place. All I had to do was send Dreams a letter (email or fax, I forget) saying that I wished to turn my existing WDW reservation over to DU. They faxed it to Disney and Sue Ellen went to work. She had discounts applied (AP vs. rack rate) and set up all of my PS'. All without me having to pick up the phone once. She also advised against booking a "view"room for the YC for our Feb. trip. Sure enough, I had a free upgrade just for asking. Their quotes are free and non binding, I'd suggest emailing them and seeing what they can do. Remember, there's no cost to you. I whole heartedly recomend Sue Ellen, she is also a moderator on this board.

Well, that sounds easy enough - I guess I'm just worried about giving up the "control" factor after so much time preparing -

My DH thinks I should get my parents to book one ressie with a TA while we keep our ressie in our name (we're all going, but the rooms are currently booked in my name). That seems awfully complicated - plus I would feel bad tying up more rooms than we actually need. But he really wants me to get those codes (afterall, he's the one saving up for our big trip!)

Anybody ever have their rooms booked with a TA and not get the codes when they came out?

would I switch to a TA to get codes? ABSOLUTELY! :) I did the same thing as Robin. We transferred a reservation and it turned out to be a great thing. We've booked with that agency ever since because we were so pleased with how they handled everything! It was as simple as signing a letter and sending it to them.

Each of our trips that we've booked with them they've managed to grab codes for us. One trip we had to move from a standard view to a woods view at the WL to get the code but it still saved us a lot. :)

Are you looking for an AP rate or general code?

If you're looking for a general code, I would stick with your husbands's idea. My son and I are going to WDW in October for his 14th birthday. I really don't think there will be any general codes this time around. :guilty:

We went to disney last month and general codes were never released for our dates. So far they haven't released any general codes for the summer months. As a matter of fact, the latest email code with free dining is only good for trips from the end of August to early October.

It looks like the great codes may be a thing of the past. :sad2:

Hi. I would definately transfer your current reservation to a good ta. A disney specialist is very important b/c sometimes the ta will know more than the cms! It won't cost you any more to use a ta and it will save you from worrying about missing the code IF it comes out!
