Yo Ho Yo Ho a Tipsy Life for Me - A November '17 Dining Adventure - Complete 5/27

Hangry in the Kingdom
This may be the ultimate reason that Casey and Gwen are meant to be friends! This could be a title for Gwen!

img_4539-jpg.308338

Or Not!
Ha! I have seen that face on Gwen as well. Just wait till our last day of my trip!

img_0144-jpg.308341

We had a wonderful cast member who freestyled some Christmas magic on our girl! #MoodSolved
The lips are what get me! Makes her look so old.

Look how excited she is!
They are such hams.

Casey went with the 6-year old version of beer - the Schweitzer Slush - Frozen Apple Juice and Passion Fruit topped with Bursting Green Apple Boba Ball.
I need to order some of those balls on amazon!

These were delicious and should totally be served on the adult menu in a larger portion. For anyone who has never had Yuca, its like a potato - but a bit starchier - and fries up to a golden fluffy perfection.
The first time we came, the steak came with yuca fries. I def perferred that version.

Sadly our only complaint was that for $25 there were only 4 of them!
I thought the same thing.

I can't see you're welcome without thinking of this song. Jason and I sing it to Casey all the time and she HATES it. So of course we do it more :P
Of course!

Yes, I really have no idea what we'd do without her to look after us :-)

Every day is a good day when there's a little bear in it :P
Agreed :thumbsup2

After that our bellies were rumbling so we filled up Pluto's butt
:rotfl:

but going out on a limb I'm gonna say it tasted like either dog butt or popcorn. I'll let you choose. :P
Must be why I avoid popcorn

Pretzels on the Pooper!
Hmmm, there seems to be a theme going on...

Tell me you don't want one of those bad boys after this gorgeous photo!
I DO!

We tried to rouse her spirits with a little shiverin' of her timbers with our tipsy pirate brethren, but she was still one salty lass. We finally got her to come around a little bit with a Pineapple Upside Down Dole Whip!
img_4543-jpg.308339

Nothing like a little sugar first thing in the morning. This was our first time having this and while I would have preferred the cake to be warmed up, it was a great way to start the day.
Love your pirate speak, it's cracking me up! And a Dole Whip is the perfect way to cheer someone up. I've never tried it with the cake before, but that looks really good and I think I'll need to add it to my list.

Tell me you don't want one of those bad boys after this gorgeous photo! They didn't have our favorite cream cheese pretzel anymore so we went with the Pepper Jack. It wasn't as good as the cream cheese one, but had a slightly spicy cream cheese center.
img_4566-jpg.308365

My little rule follower chastised me for sneaking it onboard, so she just stuck to water.
I was about to ask about bringing food on the ride, I didn't know you could. Then continued reading and saw that you snuck it on. It is the perfect ride to eat a snack on though.

We were seated quickly and despite having a server who wanted no part of the Skippers schtick, she efficiently brought us some much needed adult beverages for Jason and I.
That's too bad that the server didn't want to play along with the theme. I feel like it's kind of their job:confused3

This looks delicious.

img_4573-jpg.308374

We'd never had these before and we really enjoyed them. I love head on shrimp as they really keep the juices in and these had tremendous flavor and great spice. Plus, who doesn't wanna suck all those delicious juices out of the heads! Sadly our only complaint was that for $25 there were only 4 of them!
I love shrimp, but there's no way I'd be able to eat these when their little eyes were looking at me. And for $25 you only get 4? That's crazy!

After a few late nights and early mornings in a row, Casey was a little grumpy this morning despite the fact that we were headed to ye ole Magic Kingdom. But never fear a train ride to Frontierland would fix that.
img_4539-jpg.308338

Or Not!

Who is this girl?? I don't recognize her without a smile on her face :confused3

Still needing a little more pick me up, we thought a little bribery - I mean motivation - in the form of face painting was in order.
img_4546-jpg.308340

img_0144-jpg.308341

We had a wonderful cast member who freestyled some Christmas magic on our girl! #MoodSolved

Beautiful! And I love her shirt

Casey even got a little solo while we waited for Belle.

Great! Good for her for not being shy!

Still feeling the hangry pains we invoked one of our favorite family traditions: Pretzels on the Pooper! (aka pretzels on the PeopleMover for those of you who don't speak Stone)

:rotfl:

Casey went with the 6-year old version of beer

Never too early to start!

And for all my seafood lovin' friends - The Shrimp Have Eyes!

:scared1::scared1::scared1:

Well, you just sealed the deal. I will never, ever step foot in Skipper's Canteen…yikes! That's the stuff my nightmares are made of!

After a few late nights and early mornings in a row, Casey was a little grumpy this morning despite the fact that we were headed to ye ole Magic Kingdom. But never fear a train ride to Frontierland would fix that.
img_4539-jpg.308338

That face is exactly how I feel this morning!

img_0144-jpg.308341

We had a wonderful cast member who freestyled some Christmas magic on our girl! #MoodSolved

Ahh...much better! And such a beautiful face paint!

Speaking of Princesses, we made a trip to Belle's cottage and Casey and Jason were able to get their wardrobe and knights on.

Yay! I was Mme Wardrobe when we went a few years ago (pre-kid).

Plus, who doesn't wanna suck all those delicious juices out of the heads!

Me. I don't. I like my food head-less and face-less. This is why Skipper's and Tiffins are low on my list. I'm just not that adventurous.

So funny about eating popcorn out of Pluto's butt, because that's EXACTLY what Joe and I taught Gia to say when she wanted more popcorn. Aren't we the BEST auntie and uncle?!?! Awesome influences!!!
We LOVED Skipper Canteen's. We ate there for the first time in November, and we plan on going back...But, I think you already knew that...

Okay, along with the octopus suction cup thingies, you just reinforced why I won't eat head on shrimp! Geeze, eyeballs staring back at you, nope! :scared: Edited to add, I thought you made a typo with $25 for FOUR head on shrimp, so I checked Allears. Wowzer! That's nuts! Those had better be some pretty dang good shrimp! Maybe you pay extra for the added bonus of the eyeballs! :rotfl:

haha, my child is a morning person typically and wakes me up on a daily basis (EVEN SUNDAY) but on vacation I got to wake his little butt up and we had some hangry mornings and "only on vacation appropriate" morning snacks as well. I loved my meal at skippers but the kiddo did not care for it, he just had mac and cheese but it was cold and congealed and he was "not impressed" (he kills me the way he talks sometimes).

we're in the middle of getting pounded with snow and wind so now i'm going to catch up to keep my mind off of it (severe weather anxiety :-/ )

Now I'm reading back into your entire report and loving it and going to randomly comment on things, now you have to remember what you wrote.

We did WCC too for dinner, it's crazy how often they change the presentation of things. More on that later.

We always do Sci Fi too but kiddo wants to do 50's PT next time, so we'll probably do that. It's been a while for me but I like it. I prefer Sci Fi but not by a huge margin.

Kiddo loved Sanaa and I am actually thinking of doing something special with him there and dining with the animal specialist. That meal comes with the bread service and also kid meal options, I think he might really like that. But I am still on the fence.

CA Grill brunch is something I really should have done when I was on the deluxe DDP back in the day when the kid was a disney kid. Alas it will cost us a fortune to do it now and I can't eat much so I'm not sure it's worth it but man I really want to try it anyway. Maybe once the kiddo can sit for a longer meal, I can graze in a taste of everything in a couple of hours, lol. How sweet and magical that someone treated you to your meal!

Loved your review of the nomad lounge. My child has been watching DFB reviews on youtube and they review "the lounges" and he has decided "mom, we need to try out some of these lounges!" Territory lounge and Nomad lounge are on his list and the poutine and wings both seem like things we can share and enjoy. Is it really easy to just get there and sit down?

We did LTT too but I guess I will save my comments for my own darn review.

One of these days I will do food and wine. I had the kid convinced to try some food booths at F&G but then changed the plans on him to go back to MK for HEA again, I fell in love. But next trip is during festival of arts so maybe he will be willing to give some of that a try. I should check out pics and reviews and start working on him now.

We just lost cable and internet for a few but it's back so I'm going to go ahead and post this now.

Ok finally getting caught up after a crazy couple weeks at work

Love the New York pictures. I’ve been three times but would love to go again. Possibly I’ll consider a trip once the Frozen musical is out.

Skippers Canteen looks intriguing. I noticed the Belgian White beer. I’m really not a beer drinker - the old black rum’s got a hold on me- but I did discover a while back that if I’m in a pub setting and it seems proper to drink beer, I’ll see if they have a white beer on tap.

love the look of Skipper's Canteen and Yup we totally have the same parenting style (bribery and sugar in equal measure) :thumbsup2
My youngest son has been known to tell his teacher that the BEST thing about holidaying in florida is 'buns for breakfast':rotfl:Buns = chocolate mini muffins
Then again his mum frequently has mimosas for breakfast so :confused3:rotfl:

Well, I told myself we would try LTT for our next TS meal in MK, but that noodle salad makes me just want to go back to Skipper Canteen. It would be a no-brainer were it not for the lure of the ooey gooey. Speaking of LTT, have you tried the crab, artichoke, and spinach dip there?

I'm trying Skippers for the first time in April. I'm a little nervous about it as I'm not really an adventurous eater. The noodle salad looks good.
They definitely have selections for both the adventurous and the non-adventurous. I think they and Sanaa are really good at offering a little something for everyone.

One of our favorite traditions was to eat a cream cheese pretzel on the people mover. So sad they're gone.
You and me both. That pepper jack pretzel just didn't cut it.

I knew you would be happy with being able to get a beer at MK! Does make lunch somewhat better.
Lunch? It makes everything better :drinking1 I say as i sit here sipping sad peppermint tea.

I love your methods of dealing with moods! Much nicer mother than my mom was...I would be told to suck it up and was dragged along...I remember sulking through Cirque de Soliel because I was not allowed popcorn. Never saw the show again.
That was pretty much how my Mom was too. We are very lucky that a mood like this from Casey is very few and far between. Most parents hate us because her "worst" day is a lot of kids "best" days from a behavior perspective.

Oh my goodness what a grumpy face! She’s so adorable though. Dole whips and face paint are definitely the keys to turning a day around. Pretzels and beer sure don’t hurt either! I’ve yet to try Skippers Canteen as I really don’t spend a ton of time in the MK but it is on my list for sure. It looks great and I’ve not yet officially ordered booze in the MK, which is obviously a must-do just on principle!
I know right. Even grumpy she's so dang cute. Lucky we knew the keys to her proverbial heart.

Yes, you must do booze in MK on principle alone!!! It doesn't matter where, just drink and savor it. :-)

I tried the Pineapple upside down cake with dole whip in February I really liked it. I love Casey’s face painting, looks great. I had the cream cheese pretzel once then it was gone, bummer! Your choices at Skipper look really delicious yum!
Yes, we really enjoyed it too. I'm not a huge ice cream fan in general, so it was nice to have the cake to break the whip up with.

We just ate at Skippers last week, and it was our favorite meal of the trip! Granted we ate at too many character meals.... but either way it’s on my must eat at every trip list, at least for now.
I totally forgot you went last week. Are you going to do a trip report????? Hope the trip was awesome!

So happy to hear you all enjoyed Skippers too. I think they do a great job of being unique and offering really good food at a great price point.

Bahaha Casey is my spirit animal!! This was me this morning after we turned the clocks ahead last night.
You and me both. In Disney I'm always good - especially since I can actually get some non-stressed out sleep - but at home I'm an animal too. Most of my workforce won't even schedule meetings with me until after 10 am :P

Much better! I love the look!! Also, her shirt is super! :)
They really did a great job on her face. And I love the shirt too. Great message for my smart little cookie!

She's such a star!! :lovestruc
She's most definitely ready for her close-up. She'll have to join you on stage one day :-)

This may be the ultimate reason that Casey and Gwen are meant to be friends! This could be a title for Gwen!
Casey normally eats about every 2.5 minutes so its not normally an issue, but she'd refused to eat her breakfast bar this morning and it hit her fast. Though god help us if we ever get hangry Casey and Gwen together!

Ha! I have seen that face on Gwen as well. Just wait till our last day of my trip!
Yikes! I'm not sure I'm ready for that.

The lips are what get me! Makes her look so old.
I know right??? It's amazing what a little bright red lipstick can do for a girl :P

Look how excited she is!
She was beyond excited. She gets upset if she doesn't get picked, so thankfully she did this time!! This is a child who loves to be the center of attention, in only the best way of course :-)

I need to order some of those balls on amazon!
1. Your comment looks totally out of place without the context :P and 2. You should, though they are expensive. I think we paid like $20 for them last year. Of course we also only used them once. I'm gonna have my nieces with us here this weekend so I'll have to remember to pull them out. Thanks for the reminder. With a 4, 6, and 7 year old I'm gonna need all the help I can get :-)

The first time we came, the steak came with yuca fries. I def perferred that version.
Yum! That does sound good. Wonder why they don't offer the yuca elsewhere on the menu :confused3

Hmmm, there seems to be a theme going on...
Yes, everything bathroom related is an ongoing theme in our house. I normally blame Casey or Jason, but clearly they are rubbing off on me.

Love your pirate speak, it's cracking me up! And a Dole Whip is the perfect way to cheer someone up. I've never tried it with the cake before, but that looks really good and I think I'll need to add it to my list.
Aarrrgh, thank ye matey! pirate:

I was about to ask about bringing food on the ride, I didn't know you could. Then continued reading and saw that you snuck it on. It is the perfect ride to eat a snack on though.
We usually stash it in our backpack and then get it out when we are on the ride. Casey always thought that eating it was ok, but she caught us putting it in the backpack this time and put 2 and 2 together. She's such a rule follower that she wouldn't eat it. Her teacher last year called her the kindergarten cop. I have no idea how she came from me some days o_O I've never met a rule I couldn't figure my way around.

That's too bad that the server didn't want to play along with the theme. I feel like it's kind of their job:confused3
Its odd beyond the hostesses I think we've really only had 1 server that embraced it. Oh well. Food's great!

I love shrimp, but there's no way I'd be able to eat these when their little eyes were looking at me. And for $25 you only get 4? That's crazy!
Yeah, the price was crazy. Of course we didn't know we were only getting 4. Oddly eye balls staring at me before I eat it don't bother me. I think I'm definitely the odd one :P

Who is this girl?? I don't recognize her without a smile on her face :confused3
I know right???? It's a rare occurrence that she is like this. She's normally pretty happy go lucky, but hunger and tiredness in Disney usually sneaks up on her at least once a trip.

Beautiful! And I love her shirt
Thanks Kelly!

Great! Good for her for not being shy!
Not a shy bone in this kids body!!!! She sold Girl Scout cookies at their booth for 3 hours on Saturday and she was all over it. She was the best little sales daisy out there!

:scared1::scared1::scared1:

Well, you just sealed the deal. I will never, ever step foot in Skipper's Canteen…yikes! That's the stuff my nightmares are made of!
Would it help if they are off the menu, cause they are. But they still do have the fried whole fish for you :P

That face is exactly how I feel this morning!
It's exactly how I feel every morning.

Ahh...much better! And such a beautiful face paint!
Much better for everyone!

Yay! I was Mme Wardrobe when we went a few years ago (pre-kid).
That's awesome. Thankfully I've never been selected, but my 2 little hams get up there pretty often

Me. I don't. I like my food head-less and face-less. This is why Skipper's and Tiffins are low on my list. I'm just not that adventurous.
Ah come on. Bring on the heads, and faces, and eyes, and tentacles :P

So funny about eating popcorn out of Pluto's butt, because that's EXACTLY what Joe and I taught Gia to say when she wanted more popcorn. Aren't we the BEST auntie and uncle?!?! Awesome influences!!!
Yes you are the best auntie and uncle. You can feel free to adopt Casey and I. We can influence each other and eat from Pluto's butt together!

We LOVED Skipper Canteen's. We ate there for the first time in November, and we plan on going back...But, I think you already knew that...
I did know that, but glad to hear you are going back.

:rotfl:
What if the head on shrimp, somehow had tentacles too? Now that would really set you off o_O

Yeah, the price was pretty ridiculous now that I think about it. We were so hungry I don't think we would have cared if they only brought us shimp heads and nothing else. We would have devoured it all!

haha, my child is a morning person typically and wakes me up on a daily basis (EVEN SUNDAY) but on vacation I got to wake his little butt up and we had some hangry mornings and "only on vacation appropriate" morning snacks as well. I loved my meal at skippers but the kiddo did not care for it, he just had mac and cheese but it was cold and congealed and he was "not impressed" (he kills me the way he talks sometimes).
Yikes! I don't think I could take kiddo wake-up calls. We're spoiled that Casey's school doesn't start until late, so she typically doesn't wake up until after 8. Though I'm out the door by 7 o_O

Casey had the mac and cheese there one too and didn't like it. We just stick to the apps for the most part and we're all usually happy.

we're in the middle of getting pounded with snow and wind so now i'm going to catch up to keep my mind off of it (severe weather anxiety :-/ )
Hope you are staying warm! The last 3 east coast storms all seem to have missed DC somehow so we got nothing here. Though I could totally use a snow day!

We did WCC too for dinner, it's crazy how often they change the presentation of things. More on that later.
Hmmm, you got me curious on that one.

Kiddo loved Sanaa and I am actually thinking of doing something special with him there and dining with the animal specialist. That meal comes with the bread service and also kid meal options, I think he might really like that. But I am still on the fence.
That sounds like something great to do with him. If he loves the food and animals, that sounds like a great special thing to do.

I'm sure we'll do it again, but it will be far in the future for everything you just said (though I'll have to remember to do it before Casey turns 10). Probably when he is a teenager and there is not enough food in the world for him, you can enjoy a nice long leisurely meal.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Love him wanting to try the lounges! So sophisticated!

Definitely start looking now. We were not impressed by the Arts festival, but most of that was on us as we were ill prepared and missed most of the food.

Love the New York pictures. I’ve been three times but would love to go again. Possibly I’ll consider a trip once the Frozen musical is out.
Thanks. Casey is already asking if we can go again next year. Frozen actually opened while we were there, but tickets were astronomical so we skipped out.

Funny, I didn't even know it was a belgian white beer. It was just a beer. In magic kingdom. And this girl could not say no. :drinking1

love the look of Skipper's Canteen and Yup we totally have the same parenting style (bribery and sugar in equal measure) :thumbsup2
We gotta keep ourselves sane somehow, right :confused3

My youngest son has been known to tell his teacher that the BEST thing about holidaying in florida is 'buns for breakfast':rotfl:Buns = chocolate mini muffins
Then again his mum frequently has mimosas for breakfast so :confused3:rotfl:
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Does he also tell his teachers that buns are craic. See how I worked that in there :-)

They do share a kitchen, maybe they could give you an ooey gooey hook up :confused3

No, I haven't tried the dip there and I don't know why. I'm a sucker for a dip and love all things crab and artichoke and spinach, yet never pulled the trigger for some reason

I totally forgot you went last week. Are you going to do a trip report????? Hope the trip was awesome!

So happy to hear you all enjoyed Skippers too. I think they do a great job of being unique and offering really good food at a great price point.

No trip report :sad2:, I’m sad about it actually. But I just have way to much going on (I’m 22 weeks pregnant on top of everything else) to put in the time I would really want to put in to make it interesting! And I fear I would never have time to reply, which isn’t cool to people reading!

However we had a fabulous time and felt Dillon was an amazing age for it! I’m already trying to sneak in an extra trip before the next scheduled trip which isn’t till August 2019 !

We did love Skippers and Tiffans!

1. Your comment looks totally out of place without the context :P
Ha! I thought of the but still went with it...

2. You should, though they are expensive. I think we paid like $20 for them last year. Of course we also only used them once. I'm gonna have my nieces with us here this weekend so I'll have to remember to pull them out. Thanks for the reminder. With a 4, 6, and 7 year old I'm gonna need all the help I can get :-)
I am thinking for Morgan's birthday or something.

Yum! That does sound good. Wonder why they don't offer the yuca elsewhere on the menu :confused3
It is strange, I didn't even realize that they still had Yuca. I am sure most folks didn't like the yuca, but they should give you a choice. I know, it's crazy talk!

Woah, such 'tude!

Calvin did this at every park he went to, except for Epcot this past trip. It was the stillest he's EVER sat before, it was pretty incredible to see:laughing:

Casey even got a little solo while we waited for Belle.

:rotfl:What exactly is she doing?!

Tell me you don't want one of those bad boys after this gorgeous photo! They didn't have our favorite cream cheese pretzel anymore so we went with the Pepper Jack. It wasn't as good as the cream cheese one, but had a slightly spicy cream cheese center.

DH LOVES the Jalapeno pretzel! So glad to hear it's at the MK!

Maybe its just me, but I totally feel like I'm getting away with something when I drink in Magic Kingdom.

Um, woah. Did not know they served beer here. Poop. I'm leaving in 9 days so pretty sure nothing will be available.

I've never sucked the juices out of shrimp heads before. I'm not opposed to this either! :rotfl:So do you just rip the head off and suck?

No trip report :sad2:, I’m sad about it actually. But I just have way to much going on (I’m 22 weeks pregnant on top of everything else) to put in the time I would really want to put in to make it interesting! And I fear I would never have time to reply, which isn’t cool to people reading!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So excited for you all!

However we had a fabulous time and felt Dillon was an amazing age for it! I’m already trying to sneak in an extra trip before the next scheduled trip which isn’t till August 2019 !
So glad to hear you all had a great time. Definitely sneak as many trips as you can in :-)

I am thinking for Morgan's birthday or something.
That's a great idea!

It is strange, I didn't even realize that they still had Yuca. I am sure most folks didn't like the yuca, but they should give you a choice. I know, it's crazy talk!
I'm guessing most people presumed they didn't like the Yuca before they even tried it because it is so much better than plane ole french fries.

Calvin did this at every park he went to, except for Epcot this past trip. It was the stillest he's EVER sat before, it was pretty incredible to see:laughing:
Its amazing how wiggly they are and then suddenly stillness for a face painting session. We're getting ready to take Casey to gymnastics and we always laugh because all the other kids are still between apparatuses and our little tigger can just never stop bouncing.

:rotfl:What exactly is she doing?!
Getting her madam wardrobe on of course

Um, woah. Did not know they served beer here. Poop. I'm leaving in 9 days so pretty sure nothing will be available.
Now i can't attest for Spring Break time, but we always get last minute lunch reservations here.

I've never sucked the juices out of shrimp heads before. I'm not opposed to this either! :rotfl:So do you just rip the head off and suck?
Pretty much! Just like a crawfish

We did have a fabulous time! I’m trying to fit in a trip next winter/spring before the August trip. We shall see!
You'll just have to sell the hubby on an annual pass then :-)
