To those of you who were inquiring about my TiVo earlier...yes it is really TiVo brand, so maybe the one suggestion will work. And if not, Direst TV requires that you buy the receivers, so they are ours to keep. So if I really can still watch recorded stuff even after the service is turned off, then I'm OK! :thumbsup2

The 1989 Loma Prieta quake in No. CA was 6.9 - my family was in the S.F. area while I was at our family ranch very near the epicenter. Having lived in No. Ca for most of my life - this one was the worst I ever experienced. The part of the freeway that collapsed in the East Bay was the one I had traveled on to work - it made me ill to took at the pictures!!

Chris

Are you still in No CA? That's where I am.

As for this one, I was in school at CSU Sacramento. I felt it up there. Didn't think much of it until someone in the dorms started yelling that the bridge fell down. Finally got ahold of my mom only to find out that my dad was taking my aunt home and they hadn't heard from him yet. Well to get her home he had to drive that section of the freeway. :scared1: I remember 2 of the football players holding me down because I was ready to go get in my car and go find him even though I was an hour and a half away from there.

:offtopic: Sorry to interrupt the typical posting of blah blah blah, rugby, t-******, groundhogs, room assignements and when our website will be up...:rolleyes1 I just had to share this...

Sensing that I am a bit down today because of my Dad, my DH  and DD:angel: just gave me my birthday present...deciding what our plans will be for vacation this summer. We were originally going to sail Carnival...NOT. DH took it upon himself (I am the compulsive planner, not he) and booked us on RCCL Explorer of the Seas!

It sails 6/9 and sails from Cape Liberty, NJ. NO AIRPORTS!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I am not afraid to fly at all, I just hate the hassle!!! It will be great to wake up, hop in the car and in a couple of hours be on the ship! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Ports are Kings Wharf, St Thomas, St Maarten and San Juan.:cool1:

You may now return to our usual blah, blah, blah...:rotfl2:

That happened right off the coast where we live and my DH and nephew were involved in the recovery effort as we had two fishing boats at the time. It was pretty devastating and put my DH off flying for a long while. With that being said, we flew Alaska Airlines to Seattle this last summer and it was wonderful. I would fly with them again. DH is still pretty nervous, but as others have pointed out, the miracle of a little medication does wonders!!

:grouphug: That had to have been very difficult for them. I can't imagine it being your job to do that, but not being trained to handle the devistation is worse. DH had investigated crashes before but when the one happened here he was at the site the next morning. Nothing had been touched yet. I was so worried about him being able to handle it.

That's wonderful. I like RCCL (much better than Carnival) so I think you'll have a great time.

The second one was about 10 years ago - we had tornado warnings in the area and DH was working. It was around 10 at night and I was watching tv while DS was sleeping. DH called me frantic because a tornado had been spotted and was heading in our direction - told me to get Joe, the dogs and his parents and get to the basement and stay there until he called. So I grab Joe, leash the dogs and make my way down to my in-laws apartment where I find them sitting on their front porch watching to storm. So I tell them that a tornado is heading in our direction and my MIL turns to me and says "We know - we're going to sit here and watch it":scared1:. After too much wasted time trying to explain to them that they had to GET TO THE BASEMENT NOW (finally yelling at them at the top of my lungs) they finally came down there. We were lucky, the thing disapated before it got close to us and didn't do much property damage - mostly a few downed trees. MIL complained to DH that I didn't show them enough respect that night because I yelled at them - DH told her that she was lucky I had as much respect for as I did and didn't just leave them sitting there.

:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl:

anything is better then Carnival ....I have just had a couple of bad experiences with them and to be honest would really never do them again

The day my DS was born we had one of the major aftershocks in the 5 range and I was strapped in a hospital bed by fetal and contraction monitors. I told the nurse and my DH that we were having an earthquake and they laughed and told me it was just a contraction. I think I felt it first because I was laying down. Then they felt it and they both ran out of the room! They left me laying there strapped to the bed! They were both pretty sheepish when they returned. I still give DH a hard time about that one!

I would think that you still have years to get benefits from that move. :lmao:

YUMM!! I'd like to say that I will have chinese take-out tonight, but I am taking grandma shopping, and it's lent...and it's friday...so it's probably going to be fish...
Maybe I could talk her into Red lobster...MMMmmmm! Crab legs!!! :thumbsup2

I am marinating some mahi mahi steaks. I hope that they are good! I've never cooked them before.

Monica,
Well, I spend part of the year in So. CA (Redondo Beach) with my DD as I care for DGS Matt and part of the year in No. CA (Fairfax - Marin Co.) and stop in at our family ranch south of Hollister for r&R. Also, I fly or drive up to No. CA every month. You're in the East Bay, yes? One of our DISers is in Sacramento I believe.

If you call DIRTTV, ask for customer retention. They can provide free upgrades that are not otherwise offered by customer service.
