They will call me next week and let me know when it is. I called my boss and he said I have to win sometime............maybe I should play the lottery?

If it is going to be this cold, I wish we would have some snow!
On the bright side, the heat guy came yesterday and we finally have heat in our bedrooms!

Ahhh well, its like this M. It does not involve DW. I have told her most of it but not all. So maybe we need to keep this out of the Pirate Navigator.

Announcing: Pirate Skeletons in the Closet Night @ Diversions!
:)

Thanks for the link M.
My kids did "I have a dream collages" at the day camp on MLK. My DS7's said: "I have a dream to get a puppy" :rotfl2: Kinda missed the mark.

Hey, MLK probably wanted a puppy when he was 7 as well.

Good Morning all from snowy cold Chicago land. Presently 14,Welcome to another balmy day with a high of 24.
5" of snow overnight, still snowing.

I love living here, yeah right.

Have a good day,
John

I would like to do the Southwest perhaps in 2009. They have a nice looking tour. I love having everything taken care of.

DS brought over his scanner for me so I can scan all my old slides into the computer. Slow work but worth it. The depressing side however is seeing us as young 20 yr olds. Ah to be young again.

I did the ABD Southwest Splendors in September and it was a lot of fun
We covered over 600 miles so it was nice to leave it all to them. If you have any questions you can pm me

I have been up and dressed and coifed early this morning.
2nd DD was selected as Student of the 6 Weeks and they had a breakfast honoring her. She was pretty proud. Older Sister was not that thrilled that she would have to get up an hour early to sit in the cafeteria just so her sister could get another award.
It is so hard having kids where the younger one is the one that excels in everything and is recognized for what she does. :guilty:
Megan was born at 1 pound and Miranda at almost 9 - had to make a difference.
We find it a very hard line to acknowledge Miranda's accomplishments while not discouraging Megan.
Anyway, hope everyone has a great day!

Oh, I can really relate to this!

DD8 is very outgoing and athletic. DS12 gets irritated because she seems to excel at everything she tries. He is much more shy and artistic. He is an amazing artist and he plays piano and clarinet, but he is just not good at sports....no matter how hard he tries. He gets really down about that, since sports are very important to 12 year old boys. He always felt a little excluded at school because of it. I have to say, now that he is in middle school it's much better. He is very involved in band and he ran CC and loved it, and plans to run spring track. Unfortunately, he won't be able to do CC and band in HS, since they have the same season. I'm pretty sure he'll stick with band.

But he still gets down about it every once in a while. He hates being shown up by his little SISTER in sports. We try so hard to stress his talents to him, but he tells us his talents are "no big deal". I tell him he feels that way only because they come so easy to him!

OK pirates. Whatever you do, do not, I repeat not look at your investment portfolio today. :crazy2:

TIPS ON PUMPING GAS (Good information)
I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline.... but here in
California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon..

Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we
deliver

about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline. One day
is

diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium
grades.

We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000
gallons.

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the
ground

temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their

storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense
the

gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the
afternoon

or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the
petroleum

business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline,
diesel

and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important
role.

A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the

service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a
fast

mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages:
low,

middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed,
thereby

minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses
at

the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some
of

the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being

sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting
less

worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF

FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in
your

tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster

than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating

roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the

atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations,
here

where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so
that

every gallon is actually the exact amount.

Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage

tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely the gasoline
is

being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up
some

of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.

Hope this will help you get the most value for your money.

QUICK ... someone remind me how hot and humid it's going to be on the day we go through the Panama Canal. I'm hoping that thinking about that heat and humidity will somehow off-set the figid temperatures of my office building today. I don't know what's going on w/the heat in this place but EVERYONE is complaining about the cold :lmao:

Poor older DD decided to try soccer since her little sis was so good. Bless her heart. We paid her for every time her foot touched the ball. Her little sis broke us after paying her for every goal she made.
Littl sis LOVES horses and big sis tags along. Miranda gets tons of praise and gets to do everything. Megan gets nothing but someone telling her what she should be doing.
It breaks my heart to see her defeated.
Oldest DD does excel at reading. She was reading on a 7th grade level in the 1st grade but she wants to do only what she wants and not what the school wants her to do. :sad2:

Too late. I have been obsessed all morning. I keep refreshing my stocks and am getting poorer and poorer. Oh well - 20+ years til retirement anyway.

It was very sticky when we went through the canal in 2005. In the afternoon, the sun came out from behind the clouds and it got very hot. I'll give you a blanket Cheryl if you are cold :lmao:

BTW, did you listen to the podcast? The project I was alluding to is within the first 10 minutes. :goodvibes

Also, you should always keep your tank as full as possible from an emergency preparedness standpoint. Think of the long gas station lines during Katrina and Rita evacuations or the devestation of the midwest tornados this past year. Would you want to have to fill up when a bad storm is coming or get out of town quickly? Or, if the local gas station was destroyed or the power off, do you have enough gas to get somewhere else?

Too late M. I keep it on our home page and we are retiring in less than 4 years.:worried: :faint:

I can't imagine! I've got 30 years to go & it is stressful.

Of course, a lot of our investments aren't for retirement - it's for DH military retirement (5.5 years to go) and 2 kids in college at the same time (8 years to go).

On the up side - I think I may re-finance my house sometime this year. At least interest rates are dropping!
