No, I did my training here in Seattle at Bastyr. I was accepted to National (the Portland one) but in moving across the country by myself at 21 I decided that having relatives close was better (they lived about 45 min from school). And...I doubt you would have been the oldest there...you should have done it!!!! The average age of my class was 48....and there I sat at 21:confused3 Do you do compounded meds yourself? I use a lot of compounded T3 (not the tylenol with codeine) and hormones in my practice.

Being near relatives was a very good idea. I remember when National was one of the only Naturopathic Schools around. My dream at one time, back in the early 70's, was to be able to start a Wholistic Medical Clinic, staffed by practitioners of all of the Schools of Medical Science. I think there are some of those around now. Drugs are 'way' overused nowadays. (Just my humble opinion). Every method has its value, and using the right approach to a problem would improve Medicine greatly. The first Chiropractor I ever went to asked me why I was there, since I was a Pharmacist. I was a little puzzled by the question, but told him, "Because it works". He had solved my DD's Scoliosis problem very easily, and that made me a believer. The Ortho Doc said it would require a year in a body cast and about 10,000 dollars. YIKES. This was in the mid 80's. Our Chiropractor fixed her in about 10 visits. The California Schools, fortunately, screen all Jr. High kids for this problem, and reported it to us. An acupuncturist was the only provider to fix my Dad's Cancer pain. Worked better than all of those Fentanyl Patches. And, I have used homeopathics with amazing results.

I have done compounding, but that is rare nowadays in a traditional setting. I used to LOVE that part of Pharmacy, and I miss it. In the Community Pharmacies that I fill in for, there is no longer any time for Cmpounding, except for easy, common items, so most things are contracted out to Pharmacies like my "boss's". His Pharmacy is in Corvallis,
and I rarely get down there to the office.

I know which T3 you are referring to. Those prescriptions are rare for us, and usually outsourced. When we do receive a prescription for T3, some Techs have mistaken it for Tylenol 3, so we have to be vey careful. triiodothyronine, written out, would be a better way to write, but it takes too long. ;)

Only 7? I have a whole craft room downstairs completely full with scrapbook stuff. Have one of those 20 cubicle shelves from IKEA from floor to just about ceiling, all full. When I get a chance, I'll have to take a picture.....

now now, I was talking about in the garage, in the house there are 2 cabinets filled from floor to ceiling in our family room and an amorie in the living room and multiple other storage devices. It's not a good thing :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Welcome back, Marilyn! Did you have a good weekend? We had to be quiet so Carol could get her DIS work done, but we are back up and :surfweb: running now!! ;) :lmao: :rotfl:

Well as good as visiting a 91 year old MIL in her care home can be I guess!!!

We had great journeys both ways and managed to have a lovely meal with Johns sister and BIL last night. We called in on friends for an hour on the way back this afternoon which was lovely too.

We're off to Hollywood today to see Wicked.

Ooooh!! I LOVE the music to that show. The show was great ... but I LOVE the music. The kids and I just saw it in January

(perhaps not-so) Interesting "Wicked" facts about Karen ...

#1 Some of my fondest memories (100% relaxation) of our Nov/Dec MAGICal cruise was spending hours on Deck 4 listening to Wicked and sipping iced tea (or Bahama Mamas) and watching the waves go by. My mantra each midday was "find me on Deck 4".

#2 The soundtrack is what I am currently listening to as my "workout" music.:
-The Wizard and I ... when Elfaba dreams of bring respected
-Defying Gravity ... when Elfaba makes an important (internal) decision
-For Good ... conclusion (don't want to give anything away)
Each song is @ 5 minutes (which is about what it takes me to walk 1/4 mile and burn 30 calories ... or so my treadmill says!!). I listen to each twice and then move on to Thank Goodness and Popular and Loathing (Glinda's songs) and then finish up with one from the start ... voila 2+ miles walked / 250+ calories burned. I am doing this twice a day minimum (all I can fit in most weekdays/schooldays). BUT last night my entire family was asleep by 10pm, so I walked 5.5 miles. The dog just stared at me the entire time (she probably thinks I am crazy).

Okay ... way more than you cared to know about me and Wicked.

Happy Sunday ... time to catch up on all your posts!!

Karen: What a great post! Congrats to Tiffany! :cool1: I did my undergrad "thesis" in the ped oncology unit at UConnMC. Those kids showed me so much energy, love and taught me about having a great attitude. Was one of the greatest experiences in my life.

I totally agree with making memories to last a lifetime. Our vacations are very important to us. Live for the moment!

I agree. I also did a Ped Rotation at Miller CHildren's Hospital, Long Beach, CA. These kids were great. I was there for about 8 weeks, and learned and saw a lot. I still remember the names of some of the kids. They taught me a lot.

One highlight of the experience was being able to monitor drug therapy in the neonatal unit. At that time, the world's smallest preemie was there (12 ounces at 26 weeks gestation). Baby Boy Williams. I got to hold him in my hand. Wow. The Nurses nicknamed him the Peanut. He literally fit in my hand. AND :goodvibes , he made it. YES !! I saw his pic in the paper. At 2 y/o, and he was back to WNL for size/weight.

Whoops. Sorry to ramble. I was caught up in the Memories. :goodvibes & :sad1:

I am back in the laundry:laundy: business here at home! :woohoo: We went to a small local Appliance Store and they had a really nice GE Super Capacity that had just been refurbished for $225. We grabbed it, loaded it in the minivan and DrHug got it hooked up for me yesterday afternoon. Works good and was not much money so I will be fine leaving it with the house. :thumbsup2 Nice to be able to do other things while doing :laundy:
YAY on your great find!

Glad the trip went well and the visits were good.

Was the last one that you have done already? And for what team would you want to play?!

:rotfl: Nope, haven't done that. LOL. I did play football at USC, on the lawn outside the Coliseum. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: And I did play quarterback, in Touch Football. :rotfl2:

I was never a linguist either, but my Histology professor spoke 18 languages fluently, and was my favorite prof. He had worked all over the world as a physician and surgeon. Valentin DeMignard was his name.

Anyone try the Krispy Kreme donuts at Topsiders?

Woody

Granted, we tend to get up earlier than others (we hit Topsiders when it opens), but usually the donuts are still very cold ... if not nearly frozen. My son still manages to eat a few each morning but if I'm going to waste all those calories, I save them for Palo's chocolate souffle ... or the choco lava cake ... or SOMEONE STOP ME PLEASE!! :scared1:

This is why I need to get in shape / lose weight ... so I won't feel bad AT ALL when I REALLY ENJOY the cruise!! :goodvibes

As far as a team to play for, I am fickle. Yeras ago, the RAMS, now the 'Hawks. My DD would never forgive me if I said any other team. She has a Seahawk tatooed on her ankle. :rotfl:

Trying to force myself off the couch and take Tyler to the Science Museum. It's a really fun place and we haven't been in a while, so he asked yesterday if we can go today. Horrible cramps are making me want to just sit here and curl up in pain. Almost forgot what it's like.....haven't had ... um ... what causes them in MONTHS. Hmmm....I do believe I might have some Midol around somewhere. All of "those supplies" have been shoved far back in the closet. ;) Nice to not have that problem much! :thumbsup2

Anyway, when Tyler's finished watching "The Crocodile Hunter" movie, we'll head out. Will be a good distraction for me and a great place to wear him out. Must go take Midol first though.

I guess my last post was TMI. Sorry! Just overly grumpy and it's coming out here as well. :upsidedow

man I cannot keep up with you guys!!

what is this about door tag? sounds like tons o fun, so does the mouseadventure/scavenger hunt....

for those of you keeping track, I've now learned vital signs, bed making, would dressing and catheter inserting:eek: in school. in just two short weeks they unleash us nursing students on the unsuspecting folks at a hospital here in town. yikes!!:scared1: !!

I can do without the Catheter, Thank You very much.:rotfl: :rotfl:

I remember when they put mine in prior to my Quadruple. It's a funny story. I had the okay from the anesthesiologist to have it done after induction, but the nurses kept bugging me about it, so.......The male nurse that had the duty that day looked like Lurch, or Herman Munster. I put it off until shift change. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I was lucky to be last case. I was originally scheduled as first case, but they kept having emergencies, so I was 7th and last. I suspect it may have had something to do with Lurch....:rotfl2: :rotfl2: (jk). Angie was laughing at me. How insensitive huh?
