New Value Resort : Disney Animation Inn & Suites - Coming 2012

Well I have to say, I'm totally bummed about the new resort. I personally don't think we need another stinking ASMovies and the fact that PC is almost everyones FIRST choice as a value should tell them that. I was really hoping for a PC the early years on day, I think that theming would have been so cool and would also have a little more appeal to adults.

Oh well. We are too big of a family to stay in a family suite anyway. lol

It is always fun to see something new being built, especially since it's not DVC. ;o)

Themes don't bother me at all. What concerns me is the BEDS and layout.

We go with our DD, DSIL, and DGD4. When we were there in December 09, we were able to get two connecting rooms at POP. That worked out fine, but we would have preferred some type of suite. However, the layout at ASM for the suites didn't work at all for us - we would need Queen Beds for sure for the grown ups. Pull outs aren't great but would work as long as they were queens. And for us the children's beds need to be in the bedroom area so us "old people" could stay in the other area. It would be helpful to be able to put the kid(s) to bed but the grownups could stay up.

We stayed in the FW cabins when DGD was 3 - it worked out OK but not great just because of the bed size problems. DH and I were squeezed into the full size murphy bed and DD and DSIL had the full size in the bedroom. I think DSIL decided to sleep in the top bunk after the first night.

I think that couples now mostly have either a queen or king size bed at home and don't wish to be squeezed into a full size bed.

I wish the family suites had more beds and not pull outs, after all we can sit on a bed.

I agree and this is one of my concerns too. Maybe we should write/email Disney and tell them? Couldn't hurt, right?

I think the theming sounds great for little kids. I too wish there would be more regular rooms. I actually like connecting rooms better than the layout of the family suites they have at ASMu. Having a 7 month old grandson- I can't wait to take him when the resort is finished- sounds sooo colorful and fun!!:yay:

yeah so coooooooool it's awesome place to stay! I hope this new hotel has some shops to buy some disney merchandise and the entrance to the check-in will look like when it's finished and the security booth at the entrance! and the name of the newest hotel in the front of the entrance! oh! one more thing to put a tv on the lobby for the kids to watch while their parents check-in!

Personally, I don't get the excitement behind this. I understand people are happy to see something being done with the abandoned legendary years, but beyond that, I don't get it.

This isn't something new, it's not as if Disney has finally solved the 5th person dilemma. Unless I'm mistaken, this is just going to be like the ASMu family suites but on a larger scale. It doesn't create a solution for the people who do not want to stay at a value but have larger family.

Disney already had the affordable suite options, and they also have the other extreme, which are expensive suite options. What they still don't have is an option in the middle, unless you include the trundle bed rooms at POR which IMO aren't exactly an option if the fifth person isn't a child.

The theme is also disappointing, at face value it just seems like an extension of All Star Movies, and Nemo already has themed rooms at the Caribbean Beach. Also, I don't like the fact that it's "connected" to Pop but the two themes don't really match.

Sorry for being a downer, but that's just my two (or maybe more) cents.

The advantage to suites over connecting rooms is, with suites you're guaranteed to have your larger party in the same unit. With connecting rooms, Disney tries but it's not guaranteed.

But you know what would be absolutely wonderful? Have some suites that connect to regular rooms! I know that's not the design plan now, but...

4 people in a regular-sized hotel room is industry standard. Three things generally factor in: Fire Marshall regulations, occupancy standards set by the hotel's insurance company and occupancy standards set by the chain/owner.

I have a family of 5. When the kids were small we did occasionally skirt around the occupany standard but really preferred to rent a suite. And we never had much in the way of a vacation budget back then - we camped more than we did anything else. When the kids got to their tween years, we rented 2 rooms. I have more than one bathroom at home - I'm not going to deal with only one bathroom on vacation! :rotfl:

I think this is great news. Once we found out that we have baby number 3 (very unexpectedly) on the way...we were talking about how we'll now have limited choices while staying on site. This opens up a whole new area. Plus having two young sons they love Nemo and Cars! Can't wait to start planning our trip.

Am I the only one who thought of those test questions: which one of these four themes is different from the other three:
nemo - animals/ocean/nature
little mermaid - animals/ocean/nature
lion king - animals/savannah/nature
cars - machines

Rather than cars, any of these would seem IMO to 'fit' better: Bambi, Jungle Book, Tarzan, Fern Gully, A Bugs Life.

Does Disney's Art of Animation Resort has the Security booth at the entrance to the hotel! and the sign to the check-in and the wings and rooms! to be finished in the end of 2012! Oh! one More thing What date which this hotel will accept the reservations to this newest hotel! And I would like to stay in the Finding Nemo Wing!:cloud9:

Yep, I did too...oh, well...

This is the only concept art picture I've ever seen of what part of Legendary Years was supposed to look like...
You can see a giant old rotary phone and obviously the Monopoly Board...can't make out much more :(

I think the monopoly board is cool.

I also think it would be great if this new resort would offer two beds in the bedroom of the suites. It would give families more bed space and also good for families with older children example: Two adults and two teens.. two adults in one bed, one teen in the other and then one teen in the living room on foldout. Also good if you had three adults and a child too.

I really really hope that they have seperate bus service for this resort.....but....something tells me it will not be so. Do they have extra spaces at the park bus areas to put another resort?

Another vote on hoping that they reconfigure the suites. The beds need to be 2 regular doubles in one room configured with a standard bathroom. The room with the door needs to have a queen couch. A smaller bath area on this side with more room for a kitchenette as well. This will leave more room for a table and chairs as well.

We as a family of 5 had the ASMuFS on the radar but staying at a value for $190 a night after 20% off just didn't make sense. The amenities as compared to rooms that can hold 5 at deluxes are really wanting and there just isn't enough price difference with discounts to drop into these rooms. If they had a full kitchen or really nice whirlpool tubs to really set them apart then they would drag me in.

For a family of 6 these do come out to be a viable option. The guaranteed connecting rooms with 2 bathrooms to speed along morning routines is value enough. The small beds in the room with the door is the drawback. The parents are usualy the ones having to come and go late and it's tough if you have sleeping 5 year olds right there.

I just do not like the value pools...Anyone else? this is the bottom line of why I never booked ASM. The first thing I do whenever booking a vacation at Disney or elsewhere is look for the photos of the pool.
Anyone else consider the pool a deal breaker?

Yes the first thing I look at is the pool at any resort I'm planning to stay at. Even the pool at POP is much better than many standard pools at other hotels. Have you ever stayed at a "parking lot" pool .... there you are trying to enjoy yourself with nothing to look at but the hotel parking lot. Ugh!!

Yes.. there are ample bus loading locations at the parks this wouldn't be an issue. Also .. I suspect you will be looking at minimal sharing if sharing is introduced here at all..

If sharing was going to be introduced to Pop Century, they could have shared with CBR for years now .. but they haven't.

I am really excited about this! And since everyone else is giving their 2 cents, I thought I would add mine :goodvibes.

No, it doesn't create a solution for them, but it does solve the problem of how larger families can stay on site in the same room without breaking the bank.

They have suites at the Deluxe resorts and DVC for those that want the nicest accomodations even with their large families (and I hope to be able to stay in one of these eventualy . . . ohhh . . . the GF). And the rooms at PO sleep more people than the regular rooms as well as the cabins @ FW. These more expensive options aren't always a real option for the average family.

ASMu only has just over 200 family suites. So once you add up all the cabins, rooms at PO and the suites at Deluxe and DVC, surely they add up to as many, if not more than what is avaliable for value families now.

Plus, they are using land that was set aside for a value resort, so that may have something to do with why they are going value with these plans.

I am just using this quote because I have seen the same thing asked repeatedly by others on this thread:

It isn't really an extension because the theme at AS is really only outside the buildings. The only things inside the rooms are maybe pictures on the walls and the bedspreads. It is reeaaallly subtle.

The way I read all this (and obviously, I could be wrong) was that the themeing would be taken into the rooms as well. More like the pirate rooms @ CBR than the rooms @ AS. Otherwise, I can't understand why they are doing Nemo @ AoA when they already have Nemo @ CBR. I really think this resort is supposed to be an emmersion into the stories. Also, each set of buildings is supposed to be distinctly themed around it's courtyard, where AS is more of a generic "disney" theme rather than a specific theme for each building.

I really think there will be separate bus service. 1-It is called the AoA Resort which sets it apart from POP. It is different from POR and POFQ as well as the AS resorts which share part of the name which links them in a subtle way. 2-Disney can't be stupid enough to think that the already overloaded busses @ POP can handle double what they are pulling now. 3-The two sides of the lake are too far apart to make it logical to have shared bus service. It would take too long to go from POP to pick up then go out and around to AoA and then out again to go to a different destination.

I haven't paid much attention to most of the parks, but I know MK had extra bus stops as of March. Some were not used at all and a couple were used as overflow holding areas for Value resorts at closing time.

I am just very happy that they are doing this and I can't wait to see concept sketches.
