I hope it all works out for Samantha! Enjoy having her back home!! :goodvibes

We will but she and BF have already filled 3 rooms with their stuff. They will be using the library as a family room for them. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms are also filled. I had to move all my cruise stuff to another room.

Luckily, we still have a spare bedroom and bathroom but it will be pretty crowded if other DD and her family come to visit!!

She has been gone for quite some time so it will take some getting used to on all of our parts.

I'm sorry to hear about the continued health concerns, allergies and family members who are healing. Health is so precious, huh? Thinking of your
Sarah, Stephen, Noel and others.

Well, I made a bold move today: I'm booked for Lasik next week! I'm planning on not carrying my glasses, contacts and solution with me on our cruise. I guess it is the ultimate pre-cruise shopping! Think of me next Friday and wish me good success and not too many nerves - I'd really appreciate all those good vibes. Contacts have been the bane of my existence, and night driving has gotten particularly bad with my astigmatism, I hate glasses. So here I am going to get lasered! The doc and I have privileges at the same hospital, and he comes recommended by my chief, so I am confident in that part at least.

We had our son and daughter in law move in with us for 3/4 months while their new house was being finished. They had their first child during that time too. She is a wonderful daughter in law and we all got on well. I was still glad to see them go though and have the house back to normal!!!

Good luck and let us know how everything works out. I've worn glasses since I was about 8 years old and have often thought of doing this. But then I'm not sure how it would work on these old eyes. My neice had her eyes done about 16 years ago and just recently had them re-done (that old age thing creeping in). She loves not having to deal with contacts, glasses, etc.

Maybe if I wasn't such a baby..:rolleyes1

Thank you for your well wishes!!

I have often thought of doing Lasik but because I have such light blue eyes, I end up wearing sunglasses during the day. Let me know how it goes.

My prescription is:
OD Sphere -4.75 Dist 31.5 ADD +2.25
OS -4.25 CYL 1.75 Axis 180 Dist 32.5 ADD +2.25

Anywhere near your prescription?

Good luck with the Lasik. I'm too chicken. My rx is about -9.5 in both eyes so I'm blind as a bat without my glasses. I used to wear contacts but eye allergies have made that impossible for the past 20 years . I always with travel with an extra pair of glasses because if mine broke I'd be in real trouble.

Terapin, are you a doc? You said you have hospital privileges.

Thank you for your very kind words and advice. Will seems to be holding up well. I will keep you posted. If you have any advice or questions he should ask, please let me know.

What was the underlying cause of the pancreatitis?

Prayers that he gets well soon.

Thats exciting !! my aunt had her done a few months ago, takes getting used to her having no specs.
My mom usee to day that Glenn had Stephens head... And when he was littel he was a good mix of both of us - now he has his dads features, and moms heart!
Sounds like a good combo:thumbsup2
DD and her BF are moving in today for a few months so things are a bit hectic around here. Samantha is interviewing for a job in San Diego today (second phone interview).

She and BF want to move to San Diego as she wants to go to Law School in Southern California. It didn't seem sensible to rent another condo so they are coming here.

If I miss any messages that are important, please PM me.
I love going to stay at mums, she spoils us:love:

I think it is always difficult when an adult child comes home as one tends to revert to parenting them. She is used to coming and going as she pleases. I tend to be more concerned with her being on time and not making so much noise. Typical mother/daughter relationship.

Since DH and I are not especially fond on BF, it contributes to the tension.

Thank you for your prayers.

I don't know for sure but he is probably 100 pounds over where he should weigh, does not exercise at all, is a Type 2 Diabetic and eats a high fat diet. I think are all contributing factors.

I always have two pair, both prescription regular everyday glasses. I carry copies of both DH's and my prescriptions with us though fat lot of good that would do in the middle of the ocean on this cruise. I just may bring a spare pair this time as we are both getting new glasses in August.

Knock wood, in all my years (50) of wearing glasses, I have never broken a pair. I really would run into a wall literally if I did not have my glasses. Now loosing one pair, that is a whole different tale!!

I'm sure if we didn't get on with our daughter in law so well I would have said the same, but we still get on!!

Yes, I can see that being more difficult. I would be going out more!!!

I don't think any of those would cause acute pancreatitis, though might contribute to his recovery. The two main causes are gallstones and alcohol abuse. Then there is excess fats in the blood(not cholesterol), excess calcium, hereditary, a particular scorpion sting!!!:confused3, injury to the pancreas say in a car accident, problem within the pancreas(pancreatic divisium)or a mutation of the cystic fibrosis gene. There are other causes too. I believe 20% or so are idiopathic, or no known cause, but many are believed to be caused by an 'occult' gallstone, a gallstone that went through the bile duct, blocked the pancreatic duct for a while, or even just scratched it, and then went on its way not to be found on the ultrasound scan.

For those of us who are still researching Tortola, here is a link to a trip report with lots of pics and info from Tortola. You just need to use the slider bar to slide down as there is more than one link :
.
Tortola

Thanks for this link. The description of the VG Baths excursion was really comprehensive.

Even though we have rented a house on Tortola on occasion (we'll be there 8/6-11), we've never been to the Baths and plan to go this cruise when there on the Magic.

Hope we have a sunny day in the BVI and NO HURRICANES!

Andrea

We got our travel info from Disney. Normally they send it out 60 days before your cruise. However, I was not happy to find out I had to call the airline to make arrangements for my scooter. I hate calling because you always get put on hold forever. Disney books the flights and gets the seat numbers. They do nothing for special needs. Which I think is not right.

So I believe to make me less annoyed they gave me info early. So that I can make sure I get closer to the front of the plane. Less walking for bathroom. Not happy about this. But nothing I can do. A little nervous about how close the connecting flights are.

So my hubby and I are flying with Air Canada. Leaving Toronto at 3:00pm arriving in Montreal at 4:10 and then getting a connecting flight at 6:10 arriving in Barcelona at 7:25 Am. Can we say ouch. Who wants to sleep at 6:00pm at night. But if we want to function we need to get some. So I think I will stay up extra late the night before to make sure by 6:00 I am toasted lol.

Anyone travel through Montreal and know how fast they get you through customs.

As for my hubby he is great with people once he meets them. Great sense of humour. Though he hates message boards, facebook and chatting on line. He would make the perfect hermit lol. He is a great guy. I am his Belle and he is my beast :) ( though he is not hideously ugly :lmao: )

I think we are on the same flight. Is this Flight 816 on 9/17/10? If so, then we are. We're in row 18.

Kristi

I've updated Post #2 with an updated flight schedule. There were about 5 additions since the last publication 10 days ago, so I thought it was time for an update.

Just a reminder that if you would like to be included on this and/or the Barcelona accommodations list, PM me your information! I know a lot of people have taken advantage of these lists to work out logistics sharing and making arrangements to meet up in Barcelona!

T-78 for me!! :goodvibes

I'm SO looking forward to going to The Baths, too, Andrea! I've wanted to go for a long time. This is my first time to Tortola, so I'm going to take the dip!

I'm sure if we didn't get on with our daughter in law so well I would have said the same, but we still get on!!

You are very fortunate!!

Yes, I can see that being more difficult. I would be going out more!!!

I am afraid that will be the case.

He doesn't drink, no scorpion stings, no injuries and according to him, all tests reveal that the gallbladder is fine. I suppose his Pancreatitis maybe the result of "occult" gallstone kind or some hereditary type.

Morphine did not dull his pain. He had to have 3 shots over a 9 hour period of Dilaudid (generic hydromorphinone or dihydromorphinone) to control the pain so it must have been pretty severe.

Kristi

I'm sorry, Kristi! If I had seen this before I was working on the updates, I would have automatically included you on this most recent list.

See you in Montreal ) yup it is the same flight. Right now we are in row 19 but I think that might change when I call. Did you book through Disney?

It is supposed to be the worst pain after bone cancer. Child birth is a doddle I can tell you. He has my sympathies. Hopefully he is over the worst now.

They didn't see gallstones on my first ultrasound scan, thought they did on the second one, then didn't again on the MRI. However, as they thought it was almost certain it was a gallstone that caused the attack they took the gallbladder out so it wouldn't happen again. Better not to have more attacks as it could(though by no means definite) progress to chronic and that isn't good at all.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words! I feel OK at the moment though still slightly swollen up in my throat!

That is so scary. John used to react like that to tomatoes, and anything with salicylates in which is Aspirin and some fruits. We had to work it out ourselves at the time. I was just terrified. He carried an epipen for quite some time and did go to an allergy specialist, but he couldn't cope with the harsh exclusion diet he started. We had a nurse friend who actually had worked at a private allergy specialists/hospital, and she said he shouldn't cut out tomatoes etc completely but have a tiny amount in the hope it would build up his resistance(or whatever). She said if you cut it out completely, then in later years mistakenly eat something then the allergic reaction could be much much worse. We took her advise and he is fine now. I still won't let him have Aspirin though.;) Oh, and i am not saying everyone should do this, just that it worked for John. Take care and perhaps get an epipen from the doc's!!

Wow I've finannly found someone wiht the same allergy as my sister! She can't eat Tomatoes or anything with them in. She also can't go near oranges which limits here. Touch wood we haven't found any food I'm allergic too as yet just cleaning products!

 Oh my gosh! That's scary stuff, and I cannot believe you even hesitated going to the hospital! I really do hope that you continue to feel some relief quickly.

I know I was silly not going! I hate hospitals with a fury and I just paniced I think that it was something mega serious. If it hasn't got any better by tomorrow I'm going to the doctors!

English to American translation ALERT: I think hen wekend = all girls weekend. Correct me if I am wrong.

Pretty much. Hen weekends are what brides to be do just before they get married. Stags go out together and women do. Recently over here there's a big thing about going away for a weekend rather than one day!

Oh good luck wiht that! I'm too much of a chicken to have it done, and with my eye disease its not recommended anyway so I have to stick with them!

Dan had issues with gallstones too! He was in agony! It aint good. Somehow he managed to pass them without needing surgery but it was touch and go!

Another good reason to stay clear of cleaning!!!;):lmao:

OK I can only find some rubbish pins but here they are:

Paula, if no ones asked for the minnie mouse Japan pin and you want any of mine my Mum would love it! She collects country pins like that but doesn't seem to have that one. I however do appear to have the Stitch one
