Hey all!!

Heard from DCL today about tastings, and I think we have flustered them a bit...

First, they have asked that we do not add anyone else to the seminars, so if you are on a wait list, you will beed to go and book with Guest Services at boarding.

On to the reply notes...

So, after I got this, I did call and talk to Dorothy and the sheer volume of requests really shocked everyone! So, based on that I suggest we agree to do smaller groups and have them primarily DIS. This is what I will go with unless there are objections. My PM box is pretty full, so please just post to the list.

Thanks everyone!
Sue

It will still be fun to do even with extra people, and besides it will give us a chance to share the secrets of DIS with them and show them the path to an even better cruise next time. :wizard:

I think vacation stress is staring to hit all of us!! :rotfl2: I had a dream the other night that I was in a hotel room in Barcelona holding a child (must be a DISer's child since my DS that is going is 6'2") and suddenly panicking because I don't have my ID's and that I left everything back in my safe at home. Now - can't explain how I got to Barcelona without any of my ID????:lmao:

LOL I thought that was very funny. I usually have nightmares leading up to trips too and thus far only a couple ages ago. Maybe I'm just super organised this time?

One of my friends just used that, or something similar. She said you had to take it every 2 hours for the first few doses, she was waking the kids to take it and said it was a pain. She wasn't sure if it did anything or not? :confused3

It says on the pack, every 2 hours but up to 4 is ok if you are asleep - heck, I usually only sleep for about half an hour at a time so if I can sleep that long, then thats great! :rotfl2:

I have plain, pretty comfy, nordstrom black pumps. I've bought and/or made clips that slide onto the front of the shoes and get them to match my clothes or jewlery, ie large blue stones. rhinestones and pearls. Cuts down on the number of shoes I have to bring and I just leave the clips off and wear them plain black with black slacks or dress jeans. val

I have often thought about doing that, but it never seems to work out!!!
:rotfl2:

That's why I'll probably look like I'm at a funeral most of the time...I've got a ton of black stuff. :scared1:

:lmao: but at least everything will match!!

One of my cruise friends has white and turquoise as her colour scheme for cruises, including her nails. It always looks so nice. But I just can't seem to do that.

Hpwever. if you do wash your kttw card, it will still work... I washed mine and then used it for the drier... :lmao:

Last year the detergent was with kttw card!!

Oops, didn't notice that, but then I had my own.

I am so nervous that when I go to the doctor on Thursday for my arm he is going to put me in a sling. I don't want to be in a sling for the cruise! I'm really hoping there isn't anything majorly wrong and that it's all muscles and it will heal quickly.

I hope all goes well and no sling is needed, or at least not by the time of the cruise.

Dennis has come down with a cold.:headache: I made chicken soup from some stock I had frozen for lunch. He needs to get better quick. He has a dental appt on Thursday and then cataract surgery on Aug 30. No time to be sick in the next month!!

Oh dear, I hope he recovers very quickly.

For those that asked - it mentions the FSC refund in the docs on page 7 under "special notes on your reservation".
I think me and DH are all prepared now - 4 weeks today for us :goodvibes

And a very warm welcome to all new cruisers and those just starting to post - if you see me and DH around the ship please do say hello to Chris and Julie.
Ours mentions OBC but doesn't state it's for fuel supplement refund and we have rebooking onboard OBC from DCL -so it's probably talking about that.
I contacted our travel agent and got an email reply stating they called and we don't have the fuel supplement refund -and they said that DCL told them NO ONE is getting fuel surcharge refunds in form of OBC on this cruise.
Our travel agent said if we have names or reservation numbers they could basically go at bat for us... but I don't have that info! It just seems like everyone else's says this- but ours.
Interesting......
Just curious- those that say it- are you all DVC? If not, did anyone who received the $100 OBC per person letter also have it stating fuel supplement refunded OBC on the documents? Trying to figure out why others state it but ours doesn't.... and why DCL is telling our TA that no one is getting it on this cruise. :confused3

Got my new Capital One credit card today. I applied for one specifically for my travels since they don't charge a conversion fee. Look out, I may just go "waachopin" :rotfl:
I was reading on a link someone posted yesterday on this thread- tips about pickpockets I think it was- and reading further down it mentioned Capital one and it was something about someone researching into which card to use and decided to go with Capital One because they don't charge the 3% intl fee or whatever it's called... but then found out later they neglected to tell them (capital one, when they called researching this) that they charge $10 for cash withdrawal and 24.9% interest on charges made internationally or something like that?
Atleast I think I'm remembering that right? :confused3

We've already had the movies confirmed haven't we? I think this was some of them:

TS1 3D
TS2 3D
TS3 3D
Alice in Wonderland 3D
Step Up 3D
The Last Song
Premier of You Again - thanks Noel
The Sorcers Apprentise
Yah!
I held off seeing TS3 here (DH took youngest cause she couldn't wait) because our theatre wasn't showing it in 3D for some reason! I want it in 3D thank you very much! (and I know youngest DD will go watch it a bazillion times with me on the cruise. haha) Loving all the 3D movies since for some reason it's hit or miss (mostly miss) with our theatre when it comes to the 3D. Also didn't Sorcerer's either. :)

we ordered our euros thru our bank on Friday- but they didn't put the order thru until Monday. They said they were getting them from a Frost bank? or something like that... (our bank is First Financial) anyway, when I picked them up today the exchange rate was 1.3731
doesn't that seem kinda high? Everything I'm finding online for currency calculators says way lower than that. What's the deal? Anyone pay that rate or close to it? Or did we get ripped off or what?

Plus it's all in 100's....... not a problem for paying for the remainder on apt and 300 euros deposit (all has to be paid in euros when we get there) but that might be a problem for other things while there.... ya think? Should I take these back and ask for small denominations? I mean I'm sitting here thinking that like here- if you went around paying everything in $100 bills... you'd have issues. Most places won't accept 50 or 100's because they don't have change for that! Or is it easy to just get small denominations at a bank in Barcelona?

And, tried to contact our "contact" for our apt about if we'd need a power converter to be able to plug things in the apt. A lot of things are provided but we'd need to like charge our laptop, camera, phone, and plug in like hair appliances. Unfortunately I don't think they speak english well- they basically said it's 220v so I should bring the converter- but then said their business guests never have problems with their laptops and mobile (phones I assume.)
So does that mean we need to bring it or not, ya think? remember, I'm trying to pack us all in carryons... so the least we have to bring the better! So it's not just throw it in -in case we need it. We need to bring it only if we NEED to bring it. KWIM?

LOL he's claiming he doesn't have them but Dan's mum got his so I think he's lying to me!
:lmao:
I don't know if they are allowed or not technically, but Jason and I did have one of the small portable ones on our last TA cruise but were disappointed with it. We got it specifically because they don't want you to have irons in the room(s) and thought the steamer was better but we found it took twice as long to use as an iron.....so I'd say send the shirts out OR plan to do ironing the second you get your luggage.

I do think the no irons rule is a bit odd....I get that they don't want you to have them because you could leave them on and be a fire hazard...but honestly, I never EVER forget to turn off my iron when I'm done using it (and, in fact, my iron shuts off automatically after 15 minutes of not being used)...but Jason yells at me almost every day because I leave my flat iron (for my hair) on in the bathroom getting ready in the morning. I bet if DCL did a survey they'd find way more curling irons and flat irons being left on in staterooms than clothes irons...and they haven't banned those! :lmao:
thats true......
No iron rule will mean we will have a chance of getting under our airlines 20kg baggage allowance and the saving on the excess baggage charge of about £10 per kilo can then be spent on having disney do the ironning for us
It also means that disney make more money cause folks send things to get ironed
Well I just spent the last 2 hours deleting things and transferring things and I now have 3 empty 2GB memory cards ... but will that be enough ?????
I sure hope so.
Where do you find luggage straps? I occasionally see them on bags at the airports. I've still got to get new lugguage and new tags . . . Can't believe we leave in only 4 weeks from today!!!
I tie ribbons and stuff to my case.
I'm such a dork! I'm laying in my bed watching TS2 so I'm ready to watch TS3 in 3D on the ship!

Speaking of....I think at T-30 (Thursday), we can call and confirm which movies will be showing on the ship.

That's been my question, too!
I also need to get the first image on the memory cards to be my contact information just in case if it would get lost and found by a nice person, they can return it to me.
good tip.
Recommendation for a GREAT book for the Caribbean portion of the cruise: Pirate Latitudes by the late Michael Crichton. pirate: He's the author of Jurassic Park, Timeline, etc and the creator of the TV show "ER."

I read it in Tortola last week and it's the rip-roaring, edge-of-your-seat tale of a small band of pirates trying to steal a treasure ship. Really makes that time and the islands come to life! Arrrghh!

Andrea
Sounds fab book.
Okay, I quit. I have not been on here in three days and there were a bizillion posts (small exaggeration). I cannot begin to read them. Hopefully some nice person will summarize any high points I might have missed.

We are well under way for the trip. Have about depleted the childrens inheritance with last minute purchases. Bougt a camcorder, a little digital camera (leaving the rebel at home :sad1:), dropped semi=formal off to have altered, ordered Disney rewards card, Mickey shirts are due today, and Euros bought and seperated.

Had a horrible weekend and did not get done what I wanted. Seems I got a computer virus and some trojans on Friday night. Even with kapersky running. I finally got it fixed Sunday night. Now tonight I am hoping to resume my tasks.

Still need to set up transportation to airport, confirm limo from ship to airport in Florida, try on bathing suit and pack!

If I have forgotten anything, some kind sole let me know.
I dont know what im doing, never mind you..
except i don't use my flat iron in the bathroom on the ship...I always plug it and my hair dryer in behind the TV and use them at the vanity :lmao:

(I'm not sure the outlet in the bathroom is even any good for a flat iron...it says it's for shavers only...i know it definitely won't take my hair dryer and the blow dryers on the ship are CRAP!!!!....that is why I'm cutting off all my beautiful hair before we leave for this trip...because my poor bags can't handle the extra blow dryer, flat iron and all the hair product(s) this time around......the sacrifices I make for a vacation, huh?!?
thats really funny
So glad to see that MS got it sorted for you! :thumbsup2

Hope the boxer is feeling better soon - and hope he's learnt his lesson and stays away from them swans!

We have loads of swans by the river near us and they are so used to people going down to feed them, that they often waddle up to the cars to see what folks have brought for them! I'm very wary of them though because they try to pick your pockets with those huge beaks and some of the male swans are as tall as me (and OK, I'm not very tall, but still - they are birds!)

Our's arrived yesterday morning too. DH was such a sweetie and didn't even peek into the FedEx packet before I got home from work. :cool1:

That's a great idea - at least that way he can be with us all in "spirits". :thumbsup2

That's great news! Now, if BA could only get their act together, too. :rolleyes1

pixiedust: To all those who need it this week. :wizard:

And :welcome: to all our new Pirates! pirate:
Thats very sweet of your hubby, I could not do that!
Got my new Capital One credit card today. I applied for one specifically for my travels since they don't charge a conversion fee. Look out, I may just go "waachopin" :rotfl:
:scratchin So, either my son is really looking forward to this cruise or he's trying to tell me something......he just brought down my suitcase. It suddenly looks very, very small. :
lol
Hey all!!

Heard from DCL today about tastings, and I think we have flustered them a bit...

First, they have asked that we do not add anyone else to the seminars, so if you are on a wait list, you will beed to go and book with Guest Services at boarding.

On to the reply notes...

Wine - 56 people interested - to confirm with wine manager 1 cruise prior to sailing- what are the options - $15 per person (Looks like we can have one group - but in the same email they talked about splitting wine up as they will do 7-9 total throughout the cruise. so unlikely that we will have a DIS only tasting/seminar.)

Cognac - 34 people interested – to confirm with ABM split group in 2 or 3 – 15 each - $20 per person (so, I have asked for 2 groups of 17 so that we can stay together - I hope that is OK)

Beer - 43 people interested – possible seperate seminar only for this group - $ 15 per person (seems that this is the ONLY one that will be a DIS only tasting...)

Martini - 70 people interested – to split group in two and give chance for other guests. Usually we have 2-or 3 seminars per crossing (40pax each) - $15 per person (if we go to 35 per group it doesn't afford DCL much for other passengers. I think we are better off getting into 3 groups - thoughts? We can do 25, 25, 20 if everyone is OK with that.)

Tequila - 50 people interested - to split group in two and give chance for other guests. Usually we have 2-or 3 seminars per crossing (40pax each) - $15 per person (like wine, I think we are better off being very flexible, as they have come out and said they want to be able to add other passengers to the group. So, what about 2 groups of 25?)

Drink of the day - 48 people interested – Unable to do, we don't have a seminar for this. (I have seen impromptu tastings, not sure if we can arrange this once on board or not...)

Mojito - 42 people interested – please provide menu details – is it seminar or menu? (We stumped them - so I told them it was a seminar. Waiting for feedback. I hope that we are able to do this one!)

So, after I got this, I did call and talk to Dorothy and the sheer volume of requests really shocked everyone! So, based on that I suggest we agree to do smaller groups and have them primarily DIS. Thanks Sue, whatever.... we will go with it.
I think vacation stress is staring to hit all of us!! Now - can't explain how I got to Barcelona without any of my ID????:lmao:

Can't wait to see what other nightmare dreams I'll have between now and the time we actually leave. I can just see me screaming out on the plane!!!:rotfl:
I had crazy dream the other night that I was in the bath and could see the Magic, it was all very mental.
I just bought DW a 16 GB card to go with her others (a couple of 8's, some 4's, and a few 2's). I'm also bringing a 1TB portable hard drive to download everything. Did I mention that she likes to take pictures? :confused3
Thats great, I love taking pics, I love natural pics of folks not posing, I wish Len took some, he is rubbish at taking pics and NEVER take one unless I tell, it gets a bit boring always saying, take a picture.
My sister, my mom and I went outlet shopping today in Reading, PA. It was a good trip! I got a postcard for the postcard exchange (I'm going to give two since I found the second one that I LOVED!) and a FE gift. I also picked up some FE gifts for the kids in my group.

I got two shirts to take with me - one for dinner and the other for whenever. I also picked up a pair of shorts for my hubby so we're getting there. Slowly but surely! LOL!!!

I am so nervous that when I go to the doctor on Thursday for my arm he is going to put me in a sling. I don't want to be in a sling for the cruise! I'm really hoping there isn't anything majorly wrong and that it's all muscles and it will heal quickly.

The cruise documents haven't reached Allentown, PA just yet...maybe tomorrow.
I love outlet shopping.
We are easy too! : Whatever works. It will be fun as long as there are lots of DISers in each group. Feel kind of sorry for those other cruisers though! :rolleyes1 Especially since we will have our tasting shirts and they will surely want to be us!!!
I was thinking the same
Dennis has come down with a cold.:headache: I made chicken soup from some stock I had frozen for lunch. He needs to get better quick. He has a dental appt on Thursday and then cataract surgery on Aug 30. No time to be sick in the next month!! :
Poor Dennis, sending get well wishes accross the Atlantic.

It all sounds great .... we are happy to just go with the flow! No worries about the DOD tasting ... I'm pretty sure I will be tasting a few of those anyhow! Thanks so much for all of your work on this one

Oops, almost forgot. THEY ARE HERE!!

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Finally just received our Cruise docs this morning! :cool1:

Feels like I was last lol???!!!!

Lyn

No you're not ..... they haven't reached us yet. :wizard::wizard: for today

No Fedex for us yet .......but on a positive note .....

WE ARE NOW INTO THE 20s !!!!!!!

and suddenly I am feeling a lot more :scared1::scared1::scared1: than :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

( although I am more than a little bit :yay::yay::yay: even so )

Ours mentions OBC but doesn't state it's for fuel supplement refund and we have rebooking onboard OBC from DCL -so it's probably talking about that.

:confused3

DCL isn't giving FSC back DVC is as an OBC so its like getting OBC through a travel agent really.

I got the letter and it does not say on Dan's document.

DCL is right they are not refunding FSC but DVC are and this is where the confussion is coming from.

It says on the pack, every 2 hours but up to 4 is ok if you are asleep - heck, I usually only sleep for about half an hour at a time so if I can sleep that long, then thats great! :rotfl2:

Ok, could be good for you then, It's gonna be a long flight!

One of my cruise friends has white and turquoise as her colour scheme for cruises, including her nails. It always looks so nice. But I just can't seem to do that.

I was going to do Navy, red and white, but then a few black things snuck in, then a few floral dresses, then pink for champagne girls, so I gave up. I am going with the rainbow theme. ;)

OK, Nearly 8pm here now, so FedEx have finished for the day, and no docs for me today. :sad1:
I hope they come tomorrow, send me pixie dust! :upsidedow

Oh now I feel better. Rainbow, that's my colour scheme!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I hope you get them tomorrow, which could still be today as far as we are concerned!!!

Another box ticked .... just ordered some euros for Barcelona / Madeira and some US dollars. Second formal dress has arrived so I just need to try it on.
Getting there slowly but surely but still feel :scared1:

Thanks for all the organising Sue, we'll go with whatever works best, no problem :goodvibes

Getting there slowly but surely but still feel :scared1:

Me too. Why does it always seem so stressful? It really should be so exciting, though I guess it is an excited stress. It is making my pancreas play up a bit. Can't wait to be on the ship and relaxed again. I don't think I will be overly relaxed in Barcelona watching for pickpockets.:headache::laughing:
