Hi everyone! I'm somewhat new here and I saw an older San Diego questions thread, so I figured I'd start up a new one If anyone is planning a trip to San Diego, post your questions here and let's see if we can't get them answered!
Our resort has a heated outdoor pool....we are going at the end of January. Is it still too cold to swim? Or should we just go for it? It's the Welk resort north of San Diego. Thanks.
I'm so glad I found this thread! I've been to San Diego twice, but not in 5 years. We have a wedding early August and will be going for 6 nights. What is the weather usually like then? They are getting married on the military base. Our friend lives in Mission Bay. My husband has Marriott points to use, so we were looking at this hotel:

The day of the wedding (my husband's in it), do you have any suggestions of things I could do by myself? We're not doing the zoo, Seaworld, etc...b/c it is too expensive to bring my young kids-we just had a BIG trip to Disney this year (and they're not invited, so we'd need a babysitter), and I would be so sad to do that stuff without them. We'll definately be back with them when they're a little older.
Any good restaurant recommendations for two adults who haven't had a vacation without kids for 6 years ? We definately want to go to Old Town.
Let me know if you have any more questions! You're also welcome to pm me too if you'd like
I've been to Hotel del Coronado for a bridal shower, Balboa Park and the Point Loma Lighthouse, but will definately be going back. Seaport Village looks great for me to do on my own. We'll definately be trying some of those restaurants too. Thank you!!
Now, any advice how to find a decent flight from NY area to San Diego? I missed a $289 flight last month (what was I thinking!!!) and now they're all $400-$500, plus tax and baggage fees! Will the fares drop as we get a little closer or am I screwed b/c it's summertime?
Most of Escondido is really trashy and a low income area, but the area where the resort is doesn't have that issue.
I need some guidance--- I will be there in July for 3 nights (Mon-Wed) and staying near the airport. I am going to be with my dd 17yr and we aren't getting a car until the 3rd day (to go to La Jolla).
My plan so far is:
Arrive airport 1030am, hotel shuttle to hotel/leave luggage. Take taxi to one of the Old Town Trolley Stops. This is where I am unsure- we will need to eat by then (we are on east coast time)... where would be the best place to start discovering San Diego? Corondo? my daughter is not into museums but is into shopping/eating/beach. We are going to the zoo the next day for me-
On the next day, we are going to go to zoo early (using old town trolley) ... how much time should be plan on for the zoo? what should we do after that? would should we not miss??? Old Town or Seaport or???
Thank you all
PS... how long time wise to get from AIrport area to La Jolla about 830am--- due to traffic... ect
thanks Again! Jill

you say they are getting married on the military base?
which one?
because the hotel you are thinking of staying at (Liberty station) is the old naval training center.
some of the bases are quite a distance from there. (NAVSTA 32nd street, or Miramar MCAB for example)
for really good seafood, a good place to eat is near where you might be staying:

great for lunch!

In the sumer, it seems that the zoo is open late. would it be better to go at like 4-5pm until close? less people? It will be July and 2 adults- no little ones or strollers. Are there any perks to go during the day hours? shows? thanks Jill
