2011 Wine & Dine Halloween 5k Fun Run

I believe that RunDisney suggests 6am.

:faint:

I'm SO not an early bird. And I was planning on running with my 1-year-old (in his stroller of course). I can't see getting him out of bed before 5:30 in order to be there by 6:00. YUCK.

so this will be my 1st (hopefully not last) Disney 5k. I have heard that they are not as strict on the pacing for the 5k. But if I finish in 56 mins instead of the recommended 45 mins....do I still get a medal? TIA

I'm with you. DH and I were just talking about that. He is registered w/ stroller and DS8 was going to run with him. DH may skip it and just stay with the kids in our room. Kinda of a waste of money but it is for charity so oh well.

You will still get the medallion. For the Beauty and the Beast 5K my friends and I walked the race and had a clock time of 1:03:34. All of us got our medallions. Don't forget that the 'sweep time' starts after the last person crosses the start line.

HI! This is my 1st 5K run - what does "sweep time" mean? THANKS!! :)

There will be a point where the race course needs to be cleared so that the Animal Kingdom can open. The sweep time is the theoretical 16 minute mile that is Disney's pacing requirement. If you are not fast enough (more so enforced in the half and full marathons) you can be swept up by the sweepers. During last year's Halloween 5K, there were folks on bikes giving warning to the back of the pack that they had to keep on course and on pace as the sweepers were not far behind.

As long as you finish, you get your medallion--even if you are slower than Disney's pace requirement.

Hi
My daughter and I are doing the 5k. This is our very first time running a 5k. I found out Pop century is not a host hotel. Can someone tell me the best way to get to Ak for the race. Does anyone know how much a cab is. We are very nervous but very excited.

HI! This is my first 5k race also - I'm nervous and excited too! From past experience, I have never paid more than $15 for a cab to go anyplace on Disney property. My sister and I will be taking a cab from the AKL as that is not a host resort! GOOD LUCK!!! :)

Just wanted to post that I ran 3 miles for the first time this past weekend. Took me 40 minutes and I stopped to walk on 2 hills. So hopefully I'll do even better without those dang hills at AK! :goodvibes

While AK may be flatter than your home turf, be aware that the ground is not perfectly flat and most certainly not smooth. There are crafted/themed crevices and dips. Watch your footing as you go. Its great to run through, just use caution, please.:goodvibes

Here are some of my photos from the Star Tours 5K this past weekend (the day before the Disneyland ½)

I didn't run or jog more than a hundred yards or so. I also started near the very back of the pack, since I knew I would be walking most of the course. I think when I crossed the start line, there was already twenty some minutes on the clock.

Note the time at Mile Marker #1:

Plenty of Strollers at the 5K:

Speed wasn't a concern of most folks, some folks even pin traded with cast members that were out to cheer us on:

By the time we got to Mile Marker #3, they had removed the clock:

I thought I had taken a shot at the finish line, but I guess I didn't. It was something like 1:06:37 (clock time--meaning from when the very first runner crossed the start line).

I'm okay with a little bit of an incline, but one street going into my neighborhood has a huge hill, so I hit it leaving the neighborhood and get the back side of it coming back. And I did attempt the hill - just stopped to walk about halfway up both times. Thanks for the warning though!

It was great to see another disney 5 k. I was worried about the time but seeing those pictures makes me a little less nervous.

I was wondering what time to leave PoP century to get to the race? I know the race starts at 7am. So is leaving 6am early enough to get there?

Personally I would be at the race start an hour early. I usually try to get to any 5K an hour early to leave plenty of time to stretch out.

On average, I would agree with Frank. Plan on being at the AK around 6. It'll give you time to stretch, use the port-a-potty, grab a snack/coffee from the concession stand if you so desire, get pumped up by the emcee, maybe get some pre race photos with any characters that may be out, and get a good place in the line up.

The documents I received state to be at AK no later than 6:15. I will probably leave our hotel around 5:30, just to be safe. We are staying off property.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get to Ak from Pop Century? I am going to take a cab.
Are we supose to recieve anything in the mail or is everything in our package we pick up at ESPN?
