My brief review of the Villas at the Grand Floridian

Since I've stayed at The Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa for over 7 nights, I've had the opportunity to form an opinion of VGF.

Simply put, this is one of the nicest DVC resorts that DVD has built at WDW. The room decor is very nice and has an upscale theme and the small flourishes to back up the theme. I like some of the room layout changes they've implemented, with the exception of the missing second toilet in the 1-BR.

The lake view is very nice (I enjoy it more than the lake view at BLT). Most of the standard view rooms are pretty nice too.

The resort is pretty compact, when compared to OKW and SSR. The beach pool is right next door, followed by the main resort building with dining and transportation options.

Speaking of dining, I thought the Gasparilla Island Grill is a pretty good counter service, the Grand Floridian Cafe is a nice casual table service, and there are great Signature dining choices with Citricos, Narcoossee's, and Victoria and Alberts. Plus, there is the 1900 Park Fare character dining, the Garden View Tea Room, and some nice lounges.

I really loved the 5-minute walk to the Polynesian. I walked there a few mornings and grabbed coffee at Kona.

The recreation options are nice - you might miss the lack of a community center, but I don't.

One of the big negatives to me is transportation. You see, I don't like taking Disney transportation and really love walking to a theme park. That's a key reason I love BLT and BWV. Yes, VGF has the monorail, but it can be packed at times or out of service, as it was for a few hours on this trip.

The cast members have been fantastic and numerous.

So, bottom line, I really like VGF.

I still like my Magic Kingdom views at BLT and my Boardwalk views at BWV, as well as being able to walk to a park, but the rooms aren't as nice as VGF.

I am glad you like the resort, and we look forward to our first stay, in April. I was happy to see a studio with a shower stall.

When I have used a bus from either BLT or VWL (there's one that stops at the GF, I do not remember to which park or from which resort) very often the bus was crowded before we even got to GF. Walking to a park is not an option for me, I think the GF needs better bus service, IMO.

Your description is exactly what I thought it would be from the very beginning. I knew they would do this one right. Glad you had a good time, your wife has excellent taste.

I am not sure if you know the answer, but how is the parking at VGF? I usually have a car.

My home resort of BCV, has great parking, and BLT does too, for example. The parking at BWV is bad, far away and sometimes even across a road. Is the VGF parking in a separate area like BCV, or just in the main lot?

Thanks. :p Staying at VGF in May.

VGF has a lot right out front behind the Senses spa (which my wife loves)

Did you do the walk from the GFV to the TTC? I am curious how long that would take. Perhaps it might be equal time to taking the monorail around? Especially during busy seasons- we plan to be there at Easter.

Thanks!

Nope, just walked to the Great Ceremonial house at the Poly.

Also watched Holiday Wishes from the Poly's beach.

Mike, I'm here now, I got in yesterday. VGF is exactly what I expected it to be. It is very similar to my home in Massachusetts. It's so beautiful inside and out. I love palm trees and they put a row of them as you enter the resort. I don't have those in Massachusetts and I miss them.

So glad you are having a wonderful time. We just booked the Grand villa for next November taking our new Grandbaby we are so excited!!!!

DVC Mike,

Doesn't VGF have the boat to the Magic Kingdom?

Heading to VGF the end of Jan before our DCL cruise

Yes, but the boat to the MK goes to the Poly first, before heading to MK. I usually take the boat back from MK, since it's direct.

Thank you for your review of VGF!:thumbsup2
Sounds like you were PLEASED and had a great time!:thumbsup2

I will be trying to get a studio at VGF first 2 weeks Dec.2014. If I can't do VGF, will try BWV or BCV as I love walking to Epcot!

Will be a childless trip this time! Second DS will be "tucked" away at college and we can have a few days of FUN! Have always done 2BR with our 2 sons, so this will be the first for WDW for a studio and non summer time. Have always juggled their school/sports schedules. So looking forward to a non summer trip where WDW is crowded and hectic!

Can't wait to see WDW at the Holiday time!:santa::santa: Looking forward to Epcot Candelight Processional and booking the dinner package at Chef De France!:cool1:

THANKS AGAIN DVC Mike!

Will book 11 months out at Animal Kingdom Villas, then make the switch at 7 months out!

2014 should be an awesome year! Aulani after youngest sons high school graduation, then December for a quick 5 day trip for some r&r!
FEEL VERY BLESSED!:cloud9::littleangel:

I could be wrong but I don't think the villas have a boat launch, you need to catch the boat at the GF dock. :goodvibes

Just back from staying at VGF in a Lake view Studio. Loved it. One thing that really bugged me was that they only have one nightstand. And of course it wasn't on my side of the bed. LOL. But I found a way around that. As it's only me and the hubby we were able to keep both suitcases on the couch and I used the closed suitcase rack as a shelf. I tipped it towards the wall and was able to put my drink, glasses and Kindle on it at night.

We bought enough points to stay there every other Christmas trip. But I'm thinking about booking at BLT for our Dec. 2014 trip and then trying for VGF at the 7 month mark. Both places are great so it's a no lose situation for us. ;)

When we stayed at POR I used a chair for a bed side table for me. But if that is the only issue issue with the suite, that is great news :)

Glad to hear such positive reviews Mike. My dh and I stayed at the GF a few years back and the stay was a disaster. Unfortunately, we're the type that once we have a bad experience we get spooked, we run.
Lol, I'm seriously thinking of trying it again though
