Official Avengers Super Hero Half Marathon Weekend 2014 Thread!

A couple of links for you, too -

Wharton Active Isolated Stretching video (You Tube)

Matte's book at Amazon - Active Isolated Flexibility

You could just look at the video and do fine. The book has whole body exercises with a list of sequences in the back. I ended up taking pics of the lower back/leg sequence stretches and keeping them on my phone so that I don't have to lug a book around. I've got most of them memorized by now, and down to about a 15-20 minute post-run routine depending on how much strength work I do after. My focus is hip stability thanks to a torn labrum in my left hip, which directly contributes to the IT Band issue.

Thank you! I'll definitely check these out. Talked to my PT today and she's not too concerned that I can't go over 6 yet. She said keep doing what I'm doing, increase the resistance on the exercises and up my foam rolling time. I guess I'll be walking half of Avengers if the compression band or KT tape dont help.

Would a run/walk help? Better than just walking the last half, I'd think, and maybe give your leg a chance to recover a bit mid-race. I walk the water stations and think it helps.

Glad the PT isn't worried though, that's great news!

I actually already do intervals. And since the ITBS came on I've shortened them on my long runs. Im going to go out and do 7 miles as planned this weekend while wearing the compression band, and if it starts hurting I'll just walk, at least I'll still get the distance in. Maybe during the race if it starts hurting I can try walking for a mile and maybe that distance will be enough to enable me to run another half mile or so? It would be better than just walking the rest of the race at least.

There was a website that you could sign up for your return time; you had to enter your bib number. It only opened at 6 a.m. on the days of the expo. Walk-ups were only taken on the last day of the Expo. It was really a great process and hopefully they keep it. The website address will be in either the iGift bag or the program. I can't recall which.

When signing up online for the NB shoes appt time, does anyone know if you get to select an appt time or do they just give the times out?
Basically on Friday I wont be at the expo til mid afternoon so I'm wondering if I should even bother trying to get a time that day.

Anyone know a way to get a bib now?

Not that I can think of. Charity and Travel agent spots were cut off in early October and since this will be the first race that only the runner can pick up their packets I wouldn't suggest buying it from someone who had to back out.

Did anyone else notice the Expo map shows Dooney and Bourke? I wonder if they are reusing a map from another race? I hope not because an Avengers Dooney would be awesome!

Has anyone ordered discount park tickets from Get Travel? On the website, it says 20% discount is available on a 3 day pass. Are there any options for anything other than 3 day passes? Just curious what other's experiences are with this. Thanks! :flower3:

I get my tickets through them every time. Great customer service when I speak with them and it's easy to pick them up at the expo. And yes they have 1-5 day tickets.

I just ordered mine yesterday!:yay: I received a couple of confirmation/receipt emails from them, which I was able to reply to and ask a couple of questions. I received pretty fast responses.

Ordered a 4 day hopper from them for Avengers and also Star Wars.

Does the discount apply to all tickets you can get through them, or are only the 3 day ones discounted?

I noticed that too. I can't wait to see what the selection is!

What are you wearing to the Avengers run? Does it have to be by Marvel? Would a Superman cape be frown upon? How about anything Disney like Elsa or Bell? What are your thoughts?

You can wear what ever there aren't any rules for what franchise etc.

Thank you very much for the replies about the tickets!
I missed the mailing deadline, but I can pick them up at the expo.
It's a great savings! :cool1:
