So when is Deadwood? What is there to see? Haven't really heard about it. Was there a show about it?

August 20 - 23.
There was a really good show (I guess... mini series?) about it.
We enjoyed it so much that we said we wanted to go there.
Apart from the show, it's famous for being the location where
Wild Bill Hickok was gunned down.

WDW again already??? And I haven't been since 2012?

I took Elle and Dee to Niagara Falls and had this terrific DISmeet in Cleveland.
Now I owe Kay a trip and a DISmeet.
While I don't know if the latter will happen,
I couldn't let free dining and cheap (relatively) airfare go to waste.

Oh, Gawd yes. She most certainly does.

But in this case.
I gave her choices.
Valley Fair or Cedar Point?
"Valley Fair"
Valley Fair or Chicago?
"Valley Fair"
Valley Fair or Disney World?

Uh.... what?

She still remembers going there years ago and desperately wanting to go on a particular coaster.
And we just ran out of time.
She has (as she puts it) "Unfinished business there."

She's come around to Disney though.
But only by my telling her we would probably do Valley Fair next year.

This will be a verrrrrry interesting trip.

I'm looking (tentatively) at August 24th - 29th.
Won't know until tomorrow at the earliest.

Yay!

Ruby got word a few days ago that due to budget constraints...
all international travel has been suspended.

Bye, bye Vegas!

Aww, and I was going to be there about that time to visit my parents.

So I booked us into a nice room at the Country Inn and Suites in Rapid City.
Rapid City is about 45 minutes away from Deadwood.

My old stomping grounds! I went to college (the 1st time) in Rapid City, met my ex but had mostly good times. Lots to see, and it's a pretty area (the only pretty landscape in South Dakota).

Almost forgot.
I'll still have some time off... and those airplane tickets.

So it looks like I'm probably going to take Kay to Disneyworld in August, too.

Well, there ya go. Small party, travel light and fast.

Everything else that's still available is $300 - $400+!

That's gotta be a typo. I've never seen a Comfort Inn worth anything even close to $250 per night!

So glad you finally got around to writing an update - those fart jokes were really starting to stink the place up.

I think I am going to have to start take the fastpass+ through and clicking on the links at the bottom of the updates. As much as I love all the banter, I've managed to fall 30 pages behind. You're already at the end of the trip and I'm still in the middle!

So far I'm having trouble with flights.

That is one thing that just sucks about our fair country...everything is more expensive and there's less selection....sigh...never enough flights for cheap at the right times...good luck though...I do hope something turns up for you!

Deadwood is popular.
I checked with some website (Expedia or similar. Don't remember.)
And most of the hotels were already unavailable for our dates.

Leave Winnipeg at 7:25... at night! Arrive Toronto just after midnight.
Leave Toronto the next day at 8:45.... the next freaking night!
Arrive MCO 11:29pm.
27 hours of travel! I might as well drive! (29 hours)

Sorry... venting.

It's really not looking good.
What kills me is I already told Kay we were probably going to be able to do it.

I honestly can't tell you.
Magic of digital.
I'll usually take a picture in auto and check the settings and resulting photo.
Then I'll open/close the aperture and/or lengthen/shorten the shutter speed.
For the night shots, I'll put the camera on Aperture priority
and close it way down to increase the depth of field
and then modify the shutter speed in manual to suit.

Actually… That’s a good answer.
Something I’ll keep in mind as I continue to experiment with my camera.

A couple of days ago, Ruby's chatting with me and says.
"I'd really like to get away. Just for a few days."

Okay, where would you like to go?
"How about Banff? I liked it there."

Ruby decided that she didn't really want to fly anywhere.
But she really wants to see Deadwood.

Hummmm… That could be interesting.
That’s a part of the continent that I’ve certainly never been near.

But it's closer to Mt. Rushmore.
I've been once... when I was about 8? 10? years old.
Ruby's never been.

I’m with Ruby; never been.
And it’s actually in my own country.

Lots of other stuff to see and do in the area.
There's Deadwood itself, of course.
Needles highway.
The aforementioned Mt. Rushmore.
Badlands Nat'l Park.
Black Hills Nat'l Forest.
And a whole slew of other touristy type stuff.
(Reptile Gardens! Crystal Caves! Oh my!)

OK… I’ll be adding some of these to my list of placed I really ought’a get my sorry butt over to.
A TR on the subject will really make me feel bad about it, so I’m looking forward to that.
