Disney Riviera Resort

Am I the only one who thinks the gondolas may not be so much of a draw, except to ride once as a novelty? Especially with the number of resorts/rooms being serviced, I have to think this is not going to be the fastest transport around. Not necessarily that stroller or double-stroller friendly. Absolutely not that ECV friendly; worse if you have BOTH grandma and grandpa with you on that family trip, plus a stroller kid. It's not only the gondolas themselves; its the hassle of getting up and down to them. There are evenings when walking up the ramp to the monorail is a struggle; climbing multiple flights of stairs or waiting one-at-a-time for an elevator sounds worse. Plus the folks who don't like exposed heights all that much. And don't even think about it when they get stuck. On the monorail at least you have what 'feels' like a solid metal shell around you and a big heavy structure under you. Gondolas? Not so much. I saw a suggestion on DVCNews that Disney would severely limit bus transport to HS & Epcot for Riviera. That alone might be a tipping point against it.

The resort monorail does not get the kind of traffic the gondolas will get, as the latter are accessing 2 parks.

Those on the resort monorail are MOSTLY those staying at those resorts or those with dining reservations. Or those touring the resorts (can't imagine that tracks in SO MANY people).

Then there's the express (TTC-MK) and obviously the Epcot loop that all access.
I find when I stay at the monorail resorts that the resorts line has an equal number of people as the other, since they both go to the TTC.... it's in no way exclusive....

I'm anticipating a skyway bridge from the little bump on the small detached square building to the gondola station....
That would be a definite plus in my book. Even a long walk as an option is better than not having such an option at all.

I didn't say exclusive. Most times of day when I ride the resort monorail it is not even in the neighborhood of crowded. Right at close is a different story. We're owners at BLT and have taken it not infrequently -- though a lot of the time we do walk... especially at closing!!

DVCNews.com has an article showing placement of the Riviera relative to remaining CBR sections as well as placement of a new pond to increase the sense of separation between the two.
But doesn't look like the pond separates Barbados or Aruba from Riviera Resort, from the pic I saw.

To be honest...it has to bring a lot more than that at the current prices...

People are way downplaying the reality that all previous dvc offerings of this type have mooched off existing deluxes/adjacent parks or both.

That is not the case here. A restaurant that people only want in a 2 hour window and a pool with a splash pad and the dvc circle slide isn't close to that.
I would think the Riviera Resort has to have its own deluxe quality pool area for it to sell at anywhere near the prices of the other DVCs. The CBR pool is nice, but not anywhere near the deluxe pools as far as theming and beauty. Even if someone loved the CBR pool, the DVC is quite the walk to the CBR pool. Who wants to pay DVC deluxe prices for that?

Barbados is GONE...as In it was demolished months ago
Not only had Barbados gone, but half of Martinique has gone too.
Too me (a non DVC'er, and a regular CBR guest) I think they have put this resort in the wrong place.
They have ruined a completely good moderate resort.

I think the era of "'moderate" is officially over.

The average American consumer isn't in a positions to spend $300 a night minimum for the hotels that will be on the gondola line....and that's the minimum bottomline here.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were serious issues with some of those buildings that were just too expensive to try to fix. We were originally assigned a room in the non preferred section of Martinique last September and the smell was just terrible. Musty/smoky. Spent a night there and couldn't take it anymore. Had to be moved. They probably had some serious mold issues that would have been expensive to remedy.

All those buildings are exactly the same...and they cannot be effectively retrofitted. That's why there has never been an elevator at Caribbean.

It is the definition!of "moderate" as constructed. And by that...I mean Hampton in with a gift shop and more pools.
