Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

First trip to the BC starts on Friday, but of course - the weather is showing rain for our entire long weekend (lots of sun on either side of our dates). UGH. I know FL weather is temperamental, so I hope it shifts a little. I broke my ankle at the beginning of the summer, and this is a "make up" weekend for all the fun we lost over the last four months.

Hello all!

It's been so long since I've been able to post in this thread - 3 years, actually! My solo trip for the marathon in January that was supposed to be a solo-Value trip has suddenly turned into a family trip and my sister made me an offer I couldn't refuse to share a room with her and DBIL at YC, as if I would have refused any offer she made. :rotfl2: My parents will be over at BC. I am so excited to be back on that side of the lagoon. I enjoyed my stay at Boardwalk in April but I am looking forward to FINALLY swimming in SAB after not doing it the last two times I stayed at BC. :sad2:

I loved following along with this thread for the two trips I took to BC, and I'm looking forward to following along for the next 90 days.

We stayed at Pop this summer, our first Value Resort, and it was the first time I saw decorated windows. I LOVED it!!! And spent the rest of the morning planning what to put in the windows during our POR split stay next summer!!! We're at the Poly in a few weeks, and now I'm thinking I may have to follow your excellent example of the lights and suction cups. :santa:

Another good tip for hanging lights INSIDE your room is to use the shorter strings of mini lights like the 35 bulb ones.

It sort of depends on what you want to use them for. I bring an extension cord so the lights can reach the window at Plop Century and then I know to make a Christmas tree shape with the lights zig-ing and zag-ing I'll need the 100 bulb string.

Inside the room I knew I had to use the shorter strings on the picture frame in the room. Like I said, this made a great night light in the room.

My absolute favorite experience was when I did the Christmas tree at Halloween time and I heard a kid that was passing by complain to his parents that it wasn't time for Xmas lights! His Mom was pointing out how there were other windows with decorations for this or that but he was still indignant that someone had put up Xmas lights for Halloween. What a youthful curmudgeon!

Plop Century had a couple of really well thought out windows that were decorated for Halloween. These people went all out and it was awesome. Then one day you would pass by the window and the decorations would be gone and you would get bummed out because they had left.

So I say if you are at a resort that has a window that you can decorate ... GO FOR IT!

Bone to pick with mousekeeping, our room was only cleaned once the entire trip after we had called to get it cleaned, never had this happen before dont know if they were just short staffed this week or what was going on but that kinda ruined the whole idea to take pictures as the room was only cleaned once. and by clean only the beds were made and new towels were brought in, garbage wasnt taken out til the 2nd day after the housekeeper came at about 5pm. Hoping for better results during our Christmas Trip.

Did you call Housekeeping directly? Or did you press the "front desk" button on the phone?

We called housekeeping directly , we were out of the room for a good 4 or 5 hours with no service , and yes I know it went to a call center but this was a multi day issue

How long were you there? This is totally unexceptable. You had trash building up & no new towels?? I'd have been at the desk asking for a manger. These hotels cost a lot of money. We am paying a lot for a clean room with certain resort amenities. And to me, no trash & clean towels are very basic amenities.

During emergencies, like the hurricaine is one thing. But any other time, I want what I am paying for. Did you follow up & call daily?

We have had this happen twice (in 30+ YC/BC trips). A few years apart. Could not detect a pattern. Our room wasn’t on the end of a hall or anything exotic. Thought maybe it was just poor planning on the housekeeping route and they mixed up who was cleaning which rooms so we just kept being skipped.

At day 3 the first time, day 2 second time, when calls did not seem to do the trick, I went to front desk in person and spoke with a manager. Eventually it was sorted out. First time manager went with “I’ll have a housekeeping manger check in with you”. That created an extra step.

Next time I made clear it should not be my job to track it down. It is a bummer to spend time at the desk, but it really does seem the most effective approach.

We were there 4 days 3 nights , I may shoot off an email to wdw because I had a personal issue with spider bites in the room, so maybe this would be icing on the cake, and we didnt push to much considering we already were paying %50 of rack rate

Our room was never cleaned last week. The beds were made every day and new towels delivered but that was about it. We had cobwebs on light fixtures (I thought I as in the haunted mansion.) We never had Kleenex. Our shower door was broken and would not stay closed. Also one of the sconces in the bathroom was burned out all week and never changed. All in all I would never stay here again.

60 days and counting! :dancer:

Woke up early to make our FastPass selections and got almost everything we wanted when we wanted it! Thank goodness for the MDE app, because the wonderful Disney website crapped out halfway through, as usual. It really never ceases to amaze me how awful the website is. Luckily, this isn't our first rodeo, so we had iPhones and iPads ready to go.

Planning FastPasses for this trip was a little different. For the first time, DD will be big enough to start going on some of the 35" rides. The upside is that she can now do Speedway and Barnstormer; the downside is that we can't be quite as "creative" with our Rider Swap plans. It's kinda nice to be able to book four or more...

The only thing I'm still looking to tweak is our breakfast reservation at Ohana. Recent changes and general Disney moneygrubbing have resulted in Stitch not going table to table anymore, and bacon being eliminated from the menu. Due to this shocking behavior (who doesn't serve bacon at a $50/plate breakfast!?!? :confused3) I changed my mind last week and decided to cancel Ohana and stay at BC for Minnie's Beach Blast Breakfast. Unfortunately, there are no available reservations at Cape May for that morning (or, strangely, just about anywhere else on property, for that matter). I've never been able to not track down a reservation through dedicated stalking, so we'll see.

We will be at BC in 40 days. It took me forever to get a Cape May BF, but I finally did after checking every day. I hope you are able to get one! If you haven't had BF there, it is one of our favorites! Have a great trip!

I'm absolutely hopeless.

DH and I wanted to do Disney to see the Pandora stuff, since it wasn't open yet during our last trip which was over NYE. But Disney was going to be really expensive, and to maximize time we'd want to do that new (over-priced) AK VIP tour. So we decided to do Universal instead, since it would be cheaper, and we hadn't been since before either of the Harry Potter sections opened.

So, we booked a quick Easter long weekend trip to Universal. Thus I've got March 29 to April 2 booked at the Royal Pacific.

But today I noticed that Disney had a deal available. So now I've also got March 30 to April 2 booked at BC. And ADRs for each night. (Slow day at work equals too much time surfing the Disney sites.). But the AK tour isn't offered that weekend. Grr.

Now I'm not sure what to do. We are waiting for flights, and it's looking like that may be what decides it for us. One possible airline flies to MCO on the Thursday night and the other flies down Friday morning. Both are still way too expensive. The current plan is that whichever one goes on sale first wins, and we'll go to the park with the reservation that matches the flights. We prefer the airline that flies down on the Friday morning, but since we haven't been to Universal in nearly 20 years I'd want a full day there Friday, thus the idea of the not-so-preferred airline. For WDW, we've been enough times that a shorter stay is no problem.

Is it horrible to have two different trips booked for the same weekend? Do other people have problems committing to the idea of going somewhere other than WDW? I was perfectly fine with the idea of a Universal-only trip until the Disney deal came out. OMG, what is wrong with me?! I'm a total BC addict!

I haven't been to Disney in a couple of years (crying inside, all the time) but we are taking the kids down to Universal next October and I already asked hubby if we could buy tickets to MNSSHP, just so that I can get my Disney fix in. It's a bit pathetic, I know but we are planning a big family trip in 2019 so I can't justify 2 Disney trips in a row. So good for you for having multiple trips booked!

How are the mattresses at BC? Hard, soft? I see a lot people like them.

:welcome: to the thread!

I missed replying to this before I went away last week.

Do you have an upcoming stay at the resort?

:goodvibes

Hi everyone. I'm new here. We (my husband and I and our two teenage boys) are booked in a studio at the Beach Club Villas for April 15th-21st. This will be our first stay there and we are very excited!

:welcome: to the thread and posting on the DIS!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1, Post 15.

:cool1:

We came back one week ago and I am suffering Post Disney Blues! We had a wonderful stay at the Beach Club Villas. At first I wasn't too pleased about being given a ground floor room but it actually worked out quite nicely. We were in room 128 and could walk right out our patio to the Dunes Cove pool - very convenient! The scent in the Beach Club lobby is heavenly! Only gripe is the Marketplace. Not much of a selection for food there and for half our trip the resort refillable mug station was closed so you either had to go to YC or Hurriance Hanna's. Everything else was great and we had a fun trip!

Thanks for your review and the description of your room.

Any chance you have a picture of the view from the room?

:cool2:

:welcome: Welcome to the Dis & the Yacht & Beach Club forum!!

Yacht Club is our favorite resort. We have stayed there almost every year for over 15 years. Some years, for 2 or 3 trips. It is a wonderful resort in a great location. This forum is full of great information. Start on page 1, Dee works hard to keep it full of current information. Then jump right in & ask or chat away. No strangers here!

I will probably see you at Storm Along Bay, planning on an April 14 - 20 stay. Hoping to book a bounceback offer when we travel in December. :goodvibes

I don't have you on the list for this stay, so I will pencil you in advance of booking your bounceback.

::yes::

We were there in August, 4th floor beach club end of hall by yacht club. Mousekeeping did not come unless we tracked them down, but that was not hard as they were so loud in the halls. I was shocked and asked to have our rooms moved, we were moved by the quiet pool and mousekeeping was excellent.

Question for those who've used the Disney Visa to purchase cardmember rooms/package specials previously - Do you have to pay the full balance of the trip with the Disney Visa, or can you just use it for the the down payment and use cash (debit card) for the rest? We have a Disney Visa to have on hand in the parks for special greetings and such, but we're not keen on charging a vacation.
