Will dogs be allowed at a DVC resort??

Oh My, Folks! Relax!!!!!

Since everyone already has jumped to conclusions, pre-judged, etc.....

I CALLED the number provided in OFFICIAL announcement and a CM read the OFFICIAL transcript of the release. So easy to do.

-Designated Rooms ONLY in designated section of specific resorts ONLY
-Designated walking paths ONLY
-MUST be LEASHED at all times
-NO Public spaces
-NO roaming around resorts
-NO Restaurants
-NO Bars
-NO Pools
-Owners MUST present vaccination documentation
-Resorts were chosen based on their size and layout.

My guess, dear DISsers, is you probably could enjoy your Disney vacation within the bubble everyone has grown to love and will never see the furry creatures in their own little corner of the World.

FWIW, taking a dog to Disney doesn't sound like much fun for either dog or owner. YMMV.

If they can have dogs strolling through the halls at the YC, why not the BCV? I'd hope DVC would just make this a direct points only issue and you must book one of the pet rooms at YC, POR or AOA with your points.

They are not allowing dogs to "stroll through the halls". See post #45 above.

Well....how will the dogs get to the rooms.....thru the lobby and down the hallways at YC, right? Since I (dog-free) am using those spaces as well, I would consider them "public spaces". Seems like that is an unavoidable rule breaker right there.

I can see how it would be more manageable at resorts with outside access. Believe me, I'm not saying that because I want to see it be that way. I am very much looking forward to staying at OKW and SSR some day and POR is (well...was) my favorite place.

Next up... will the dogs be allowed on the Magical Express, too? Will there be a special pet friendly bus to get the dogs and their owners back and forth from the kennel if the owners are going to be in the parks all day?

(snip)

BTW if at the YC the cleaning fee is $50 per night, for a two bedroom it would be $150 per night. This would either have to be paid with increased point cost per night or as a checkin fee. But DVC owners are against pay-to-play fees, so it would be rolled in rooms cost.
If we pay $5 per point, a pet friendly studio should cost 10 points more per night, a 2bed 30 points more. This would decrease the cost of other rooms at the resort. Ok, thinking about it, I'm all in: make the Carousel per friendly so I won't ever stay there, make dog owners pay twice as much points and decrease room costs for other categories. Late bookers and dog owners will finance my cheaper rooms.

I actually think I read the fee at YC is $75 as opposed to $50 at the others. I'd like to think that a 2 bedroom would be triple the fee - $75 per "area". Please...let's hope. If $225/night plus potential boarding fees doesn't deter someone, nothing will.

I also hope that they don't consider making any DVC villas pet-friendly because there are real health concerns for guest with allergies. And as I mentioned in my previous post, deep cleaning as we've been assured is not sufficient.

However, if they feel that it's necessary to make a DVC pet friendly option, I agree with some posts that it should be either OKW or SSR where facilities and space are better equipped and it can be contained within those two resorts.

I would hope that they don't add it to other resorts even if kept within the ground floor. I would imagine that someone would end up in these villas who are allergic and have a miserable stay because of this. In addition, it appears that there are members who specifically chose DVC as an option because it is pet free.

Although I would not like to hear dogs barking or see pet accidents on carpet etc, my main concern is the health of guests who have allergies. And that should be a concern by DVC as well.

As far as leaving pets in the room all day, I would hope no one does this as the pet is not used to the location and I would feel this would be cruel. Disney has the best option which is their boarding program. I understand it's an additional cost, but I would assume this would be best for any pet.

We we bought a condo and I read the condo rule, sounds alot like above. Moved into condo first morning awakened at 6 AM by whining dog. Dog continued to whine all day long ALL DAY long for weeks til husband saw owner outside and told him, don't know what they did but she stopped but still barks/yippys loudly every time them come back home. Rules stated 1 med dog or cat. First week here 75% of the dogs were lrgs dogs. (year here changed rules 2 cats 2 dogs no size restriction. On leash Ha some yes some no. pick up poop some yes some no. First visit pool area, sitting there relaxing out come 2 unleashed lab dogs poop on side of house by pool fence and go back in side. 4 years later this summer same exact scene... grandson says it sure sinks here. Yeah rules are great, everyone obeys them. Oh and I have never seen so many dogs in my life this is a condo complex not a neighborhood either

I am opposed to allowing pets in DVC. I am on vacation at Disney and do not want to deal with barking dogs or the inevitable pet owner who thinks everyone needs to put up with their adorable dog's bad habits. Next will be allowing them in the parks. I think Disney is headed in the wrong direction with this change.

I have seen more "service dogs" and "emotional assistance" pets at dvc resorts this past week than at any other time in the past years we have been going to wdw(and we go at least once a year). The reason I used quotes is some of these were very active and responding to people which means I question if they are truly service animals (if you get bored google service animal vests and you will see places you can order and put on your pet).

We were all told no pets at dvc when we bought but if you actually read the contract it is stated that this does not apply to service animals.

"Service animals" are covered by ADA laws and are not pets, "emotional assistance" pets are not covered and shouldn't be allowed. You are also proving the point that pet owners are not following the rules, and thus if you allow more pets, owners will not follow those rules either.

Two points....First, I really think there is a tremendous amount of blustering by people saying if I see dogs I am selling and/or not going to a resort. If that is true, your actions (I.e, your money) will speak louder and stronger than your words so time will tell. If enough people pull back on Disney vacactions and Disney loses money then maybe they will retract the allowing dogs. Second, if people who state they will actually sell if dogs are allowed I say I can't wait to add to my BLT point portfolio!

I feel for the CM's. We were on DCL with friends a couple of years ago and the Mom has severe allergies to pet dander (can't come in our house - we have cats) to the point of having to carry an epi-pen around with her. Anyway, there was a service dog on the cruise and our friend broke out into hives (I guess those were hives, spots maybe?) just being in the lobby area near the dog. Anyway, when the staff caught on to it, they seemed flummoxed about what to do. Long story short, they had to reassign cabins, rearrange dining rotations, and sort-of "compare schedules" if that makes any sense so that the likelihood of these two being at the same place as each other was minimized. Plus they sent around a housekeeping CM with the service animal (not sure if at all times, but i always saw them near the animal whenever I ran into them). It made for a miserable few days for everyone, quite honestly.

The thing here is that no one was "in the wrong" and Disney, I thought, went above and beyond trying to accommodate the situation, however, it's just one of those things where you have 2 competing rights and whose rights are more compelling than the other?

(On a completely different note, on one of our Dream cruises, someone had an ESA dog that she brought with her all over the ship to the point of letting the dog eat from the table. THAT - I could not believe DCL was allowing...)

Well, I can see by the poll on the resorts board that 85% disagree with allowing dogs, so I hope that is an accurate representation and that all DVC members are vocal about it. I have walked over to the phone to let my guide know I want to cancel my purchase (still barely in the 10 day period) multiple times, but never dialed the number. This would be a deal breaker for me, but on the other hand, it may never happen. I spent so much time researching and making decisions about membership. I was prepared for changes to benefits or even them completely disappearing, but not prepared to potentially not want to stay at the resorts. I'm so torn.

Unless you are getting a deal ( and you are not purchasing direct) there will be no harm cancelling until things settle out. If this was revealed during my 10 day right to rescind you better believe I’d be cancelling in a heart beat. If this comes to any of my home resorts, it will be time to get out of DVC for me.

I just emailed my guide about not wanting any pets allowed at DVC resorts, if you feel the same way I suggest you do it. The reason I think that they are allowing dogs at resorts now is because dog owners have been emailing about wanting to bring their pets. So I hope the DVC members who don't want to see this change come to DVC email your guide and let them know. If they do allow dogs then you will have to decide if DVC is still for you, for my family we will probably sell. I don't want to spend $5k to $10k for a vacation I'm miserable on and can't sleep because I'm sneezing, itching, coughing and wheezing.

You might want to call him/her up and ask if DVC has plans for this.
