Official Wine and Dine 2017 thread

I guess you need to decide who you are okay with skipping. For me, if it's a character I've met before or can easily meet in the parks, I skip them to bank that time for rarer characters, for example.

This is my approach as well. I skip any I'm not super in to or that aren't super rare. I also will normally skip the first one unless it's someone super rare.

Half-marathoners: What is your longest run you are doing for training and which weekend are you doing it?

I'm doing 10-11 this week. I know I'll be fine with that amount, but normally prefer a little longer. With all my injuries I did 8 last weekend and I'll do 10-11 depending on how I am feeling.

I should have added another question: For those who do their last long run 2 weeks out before a half, how many miles do you do for your "long" run the final week? I am debating something in the 6-8 mile range.

I normally follow the Galloway plan and I think he has 4 miles on it the weekend before the race? I'll probably do that amount assumming my knee is feeling good. I've been using the stationary bike during the week instead of running trying to save it a bit for the long runs.

I'll tell you what. That medal haul at Dark Side this year was epic... 6 medals in one weekend. 5k, 10k, half, challenge, Kessel & c2c!

Seriously! Those were heavy to carry around for medal photos! I am flirting with the idea though of bringing my Light & Dark Side medals for soem photos of all my Disney bling from the year.

Re: Characters do we want to do any guessing as to whom we might possibly get for the various races?

I just noticed that the expo part of the event guide has been updated with the exhibitors and stuff now (of course I may be late to the party so sorry if I am!). Seems like it is set up a bit different than the other expos I have been to at WDW. Just thought I would share in case people didn't see it yet!

Looks like they moved the runDisney merch to HP Field House? Used to be Jostens right? And there is a craft beer corner :drinking1

Thank you for catching that!

Woah. Awesome! Some pre-race carb loading!

In terms of my last long run before a half marathon, I do a 12-miler two weeks out and a 6-miler one week out. I follow the FIRST training program, which only requires 3 runs per week and then cross training. I'm a swimmer at heart so this is just the right amount of running for me! https://www.runnersworld.com/race-training/3-day-half-marathon-training-plan

The Wine & Dine Half is coming part-way through my training for my first full marathon in January. I'm actually treating the half as a training run for the full marathon. Per my marathon training plan, I'm running 10 miles this weekend and 14 next weekend. I was supposed to do 15 miles on the weekend of Wine & Dine. I'm going to say the 10-K the day before the half will be close enough!

The merch move is what I noticed right away, could be an interesting switch. I can see how it might be a better placement for it, but who knows! I was trying to figure out what the runDisney Headquarters is, I don't remember seeing that on previous maps. Is that where they have all the medals? Seems like a big space for just that! Kinda fun that they switched it up just a little from other expos. Still have to hit both areas for bibs and shirts though... :rotfl2:

I just realized that my 5 year old's Kid's Dash is literally in the middle of one of our park days. :headache:

Re: Characters do we want to do any guessing as to whom we might possibly get for the various races?
Yes, I’d like to see everyone answers since this will be my first runDisney events... But I’ll try: From what I have read and since the theme is Epcot: The fab five at start and/or finish, Mary Poppins or Alice and the MadHatter (England), Pinocchio (Italy), Rémi (France), B’rear Fox or the Jamboree Bears (USA) and maybe the 3 Caballeros (Mexico)? Of course, if this takes a princess tangent, my answers will be different!

No guesses. I always just hope for some different characters or at least characters in different outfits.

Headquarters will be probably be for medals, sign up for future races, picture ops. And yes we all know Disney makes you finish an ride/experience in a gift shop. A really big gift shop in this case. :D

From the ESPN WWC Map in the Event Guide: runDisney Head Quarters (Event Information, Transportation Information, runDisney Sales, Disney Travel Company, ChEAR Squad Pick-Up, Inspiration Station, Runner Tracking)

Just got another e-mail from runDisney. In case you don't get them, here is the text...
Hope we all get our tickets without issue!!
I notice that on the HP Field House Map, on the lower level, there is a Post Race Party Ticket Pick-Up for international runners and those who registered after October 11th.

Given that I don’t receive the emails because I am an international runner, the only thing that I’ll be missing is the Gift Card. I wonder if I’ll get it at one of the three stops (Bib Pickup, Shirts Pickup and Party Ticket Pickup) or if I’ll have to go to Runner Relationship (HP upper level) or to the Welcome Center...
