I love credit cards so much!

Ok..... I'm confused. My DS tried for a Discover card today, and was denied.(boo, over the phone!) I thought they issued these to students(or student types) who are looking to build credit..... he input his p/t income as 8k per year....too low? What next, should we just wait 30 days and try for something else? he has been an AU on a couple of my cards for almost a year now....

One of my kids got the Discover secured card for his first credit card. After 6 months of on-time payments, Discover automatically converted it to an unsecured card and returned his deposit. It now shows up on his credit report as if it has always been an unsecured card.

My DD tried last year and was also denied. I think another reason why she was afraid to try again this year. I was not there when she filled out application but last year she said it asked for rent amount in addition to income. I think she put $500 rent and $5000 income. I told her she should not have put rent down since she didn't even pay the rent. She said they didn't aske me if I paid it just how much it was. lol So I think she was denied for not even making enough money to cover her nonexistent rent payments. Did they ask him for any kind of expenses? Maybe it is because he is young and not a student.

What are your keeper cards?

I have some expenses coming up so of course I need a new MSR. There are no sign-up bonuses that are especially appealing so I'm thinking I should maybe get a "keeper" card -- a lesser sign-up bonus but something that will be valuable over time. I'm over 5/24 so Chase is out and I probably should avoid AmEx as I just got two new AmEx cards last month.

Does anyone here use VGC/MCGC online for purchases? Any issues? I got a redlight camera ticket yesterday and can pay online, but only with Visa/Mastercard. Working on this SPG spend so I'm willing to pick one up from Kroger for 4x fuel points, but want to make sure it works first.

So sorry about the ticket. No problems using VGC/MCGC online (and for this ticket) if you go to the site on the back of the card to register the card to your name and address first.

My CVS RMN $10 credit posted yesterday from my Monday gift card purchase. I was able to reload the offer this morning and then go straight to the store and get another gift card. Another immediate $10 pending. I'll be getting the rest of the giftcard offers tonight when I do errands.

That is really fast! I did mine Monday afternoon. Hopefully we see a mass of pending money start becoming payable soon. I'd definitely like to do these again!

My Staples RMN purchase from Monday also posted by this morning, and I've added it to my offers again. These are sweet!

I’m not gonna lie, I watched a lot of tv when I was little. I still went outside a ton with my friends and to the pool but I could name off at least 20 shows I watched as a kid. Some of the ones I watched a lot were: Arthur, rugrats, spongebob, and blues clues.

I loved everything about mister Rogers. Dh watched the show too. We both love the trolley! I can’t think of anything I didn’t like about the show. His song was catchy and I loved when he would change shoes which is such a weird thing to like lol.
Blue's Clues was my THING :lmao: I remember loving the episode where Paprika was born. I loved Arthur, too... Sesame Street, Caillou, Bear in the Big Blue House... Barney:duck:I also inherited a VCR & tapes of Care Bears, My Little Pony, Rainbow Brite etc from my older cousin and I was crazy for those.

I really loved Mr. Rogers. I used to watch with my grandma & we'd make a game out of guessing which color sweater he would put on. I also used to get really excited when it was time to feed the fish. Such a wonderful, gentle show. I hope they release it in some way (Blu-ray? Streaming?) by the time I have kids.

UPDATE to yesterday's AMEX clawback...

https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/9holli/daily_discussion_thread_september_21_2018/e6dgak5/

I hate to be skeptical about these things but I've never seen somebody get 75k points back from AMEX that fast. This person's history posting in r/churning was 2 comments in the code share thread. NOW they all of the sudden get 41 Karma from that one comment yesterday... Who knows it this was even true or not - but at any rate, DON'T start PANIC redeeming your MRs just yet, lol.

AND don't be dumb and cancel cards before 12 months...it makes no sense at all to do that and can only get you in trouble with AMEX.

I share your skepticism. I’ve had Amex open “investigations” into missing points and whatnot, and it’s taken them weeks, if not months, to get back to me. No way they reverse his clawback so fast, even if he hit up Amex’s chat, phone, and Twitter.

And bolded for emphasis. Don’t be stupid and sh*t where you eat.

MR Rogers, Sesame Street and Electric Company were the shows I watched as a kid. I did watch Cpt. Kangaroo from time to time but Mr. Rogers was always my favorite. Loved watching Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights!

I loved everything about mister Rogers.

Loved Mr Rodgers but apparently I was a bigger fan of Sesame Street. When my father's frat brother was staying with us after his tenure in Viet Nam as a bomber pilot apparently he did not appreciate 4 year old me waking him up to watch it:rotfl: He hasn't stayed overnight at my parents' in 44 years as a result...

A positive DP from the Amex MR clawback posted on Reddit yesterday:

https://old.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/9holli/daily_discussion_thread_september_21_2018/e6dgak5/

After appealing the case, OP had 75k MR restored. Amex did keep the clawback of the 25k MR from the Ameriprise Gold that was closed under a year, though. So keep those Amex cards open at least a year!

Interesting...and the immediate reversal is also interesting...you always wonder if Paul Harvey is up there saying "the rest of the story" is...

When we got color, oh wow!

I remember that...it was like magic!

I had the notebook, green crayon, and red chair from blues clues! Paprika was so cute! I had a compute game with blues clues too. Do you remember the face that would show up before the show and it would be different colors? One time he had slurpy straw glasses and sucked the color from himself lol. I hope someone knows what I’m talking about or I’ll just sound crazy.

I honestly never watched Sesame Street.

I would actually say now that I may back off the 3-4 month "rule". I know I was a BIG advocate for it and a lot of people latched on to it when I was sharing a shutdown report every few days here, LOL.

Chase appears to have backed off of their position of shutting people down. I'd wait 90 days if you can BUT if you have a large expense coming up and need a new MSR the occasional 60 day wait is probably fine now.

I’ve also moved my timetable up to 2-3 months between apps. Everyone’s budget and risk tolerance is different, so that should ultimately determine what your cooling off period should be. But, for me, with the rate at which Chase has been introducing new restrictions, who knows if the card you’re eyeing now will still be available to you if you wait 3-4 months?

ETA: I’d also add that with the double dip off the table, that lessens the number of cards you’d likely be applying for in a certain period and the risk of shutdown.

Being an AU on your cards for years should put him in a great position to get his own credit. I'd definitely check for something weird on his credit report.

Does Discover pull Equifax? A few months ago, Equifax started adding a lot of strange "remarks" to my account on Credit Karma (such as that I had disputed ownership of an account when I didn't) & when I went to check my report, they said my information "didn't match," so I had to request it by mail. It was crazy! I must have spent 45 minutes on the phone with them before they figured out the problem, which was on their end. I don't trust Equifax at all now :rotfl: & always suspect them when something like this happens to someone else.

YES! I know exactly what you mean :lmao: I haven't thought of that in years.

have u run his credit report? came out clean?
I went to credit karma and hit this page...
Your personal information doesn't match with credit bureau records. Please review your information for any possible errors. For security reasons, you'll also need to reenter your Social Security Number before continuing. Not sure what's wrong? You can find some tips on the right side of this page.
?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!? is this b/c he's new at credit? I went one page further and they said he needed to verify and send his license photo in....(verify identity) Im' looking directly at his ss card so I know the info is right.... could this be b/c all of our names had a credit freeze on them a couple of years back when the anthem breach happened? I just remembered this, they did some auto protect thing....but it expired last year from that...

.

My dd LOVED Blues Clues (heck we would still totally watch it, and saw it's being rebooted). We had BC toys all over the house! And have a couple of BC Hallmark ornaments on our tree still at Christmas. Little Bear was another favorite, that I would watch even without the kids LOL. Bear in the Big Blue House and Out of the Box were other favorites of theirs.

Anyone of my age range LOL, remember the New Zoo Revue??

I'm a fan of the Citi Double Cash, and it does have a $150 sign up bonus right now, which is fairly unusual for that card. I know you said no Amex, but the Blue for Business Plus earns 2x MR on every dollar spent and is also a tremendous daily driver.

Also good - Citi TY Premier (if only because TY points are hard to accumulate).
