Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

It also doesn't help that the podcast team keeps going on about that all the time too. People don't seem to understand that AC has to be powered and it isn't something that can be powered by slapping on a couple of solar panels on the roof. Also, the Ony gondola that has AC is the one in London and it reportedly doesn't work all the time.

Actually there are at least three systems that have it. Wynn Macau Palace system has it and I don't remember the other at the moment. Doesn't change the fact that AC is very rare in these systems.

So if I am viewing those accurately looks like there are 14 rows to hold gondolas and about 1 and 1/3 are full - so about 10% of the way there and looks like each row holds 25-30 gondolas which means they could hold 350-400
Not sure there will be quite that many but I know we are expecting over 200. Hence the production delay.

Based on the below image(from @bioreconstruct on twitter) I don't see ANY preparations being made that would allow Skyliner passengers to enter via the IG without another(or first?) security screening. Anyone see anything I dont?

I think the rows in the north storage area look shorter than those in the south storage area. I would knock about 50 off your range.

It was a rumor and certainly still could happen. It appears it may not though as DHS is building its new security behind the Skyliner. I do think we see some changes to the international gateway entrance yet as even without the Skyliner it’s been noticeably busier at that entrance.

Well, they could move security check down the path below where the Skyliner people would enter the path and rearrange where boat people come in or even do security before getting on the boat too

Not saying they will but I think it is possible (but would require some reconfigured my)

Plus the ones there are fit in pretty tight - but still clear they definitely have room for more than 200 just in the storage racks there

Right and it would make sense if they were going to do that that construction would already be underway. That's why I think people are going to be dumped out and need to be screened. Of course it's also possible that the IG entrance is shutdown all together for a week or two right before opening to reconfigure as well.

Just my opinion but I believe that there are too many entry/exit points along the gondola route to make it within the security barrier. Considering that it would seem that expanding security at IG would involve far fewer employees.

There really aren't any more entry/exit points than the resort monorail has.

But you could do it for everyone at the Caribbean Beach station other than those going right from Riviera to Epcot

Like at the Universal resorts....at least at Portofino. You get screened before entering the boat then once you get to the parks or City Walk you don't have to be screened again.

I think the biggest advantage is when you go back to hotel or to the parks midday. Not at opening or closing. You will be able to walk right onwith out waiting or very little waiting. Not like you missed the buss and there. 20 minute wait.
I don’t think you can do much at opening and closing with any type of mass transportation.
Is there some new date when Skyline will open or soft opening??

The Skyliner will be able to move a full bus worth of people every 90 seconds.

I think the monorail and the ferry boat would be targets and major security risks because of how many people are contained in one area. a checkpoint is necessary before getting on those modes of transportation. A gondola will only carry 8 passengers per cabin so there isn’t the need to do a checkpoint at each station.

Yeah, based on the numbers I posted earlier and how many racks there are, I'm thinking a little over 300.
