SWGE Opens August 29!

Lets say you do get a FP for a ride in SWGE, but you are outside of the land because of the "line to get in" do they allow you in or lose you FP?
In the announcement they said that, at least initially, they won't be issuing FPs for Millennium Falcon. No word on when, or even if, they will add them. This is similar to what UO did with the HP attractions, not allowing Express Passes to be used for them for a while after they first opened.

My gf and I have a trip planned for Nov. 9-14. Wasn't sure if SWGE would be open or not, but was kinda figuring it wouldn't be. Sticking with the trip. My only question is whether or not we will even bother trying to see it. I really, really want to, obviously, but am not going to wait hours JUST to even get in the area and walk around. At least with the trip in Nov that will give us time to see how the crowds are during Sept and October so we can game plan. If it means getting to DHS 3 hours before open just to get in because the area reaches capacity by 10 a.m. every day then nahhhhhhh.

Going Aug 25 - 31 and I can't rebook because i got a great deal on a club level suite and BC. I wonder if the Club level extra fast passes will work for the Starwars ride? Trying to find a silver lining.

It's been published that no fastpasses will be made available for Smuggler's Run for now - but it sounds like certain resorts will have "special" EMH to get access to the land, and I would bet that means the deluxe resorts.

I am SO GLAD that they announced this today. It gives people a bit of time to prepare.

We are going late Nov early Dec so I knew it would likely be open, anyway. But it is nice to finally know.

YES!!
We are booked that week too and I am nervous and a little bummed! I am terrified about how bad the crowds will be and wondering it it is worth changing the dates?!
I know...we are booked with free dining and plane tickets are already purchased, so I think in order to rebook we’d have to pay a lot more than it’s currently costing.

I just priced moving it to August and it would cost us an additional $2400 for the same vacation we have booked in September. Moving it isn’t financially feasible for us.

I noticed this too! My 6 nights of hotel in september is the same as a 4 nights any other time!!!

Whew, what a difference in the date that was previously announced and the actual date of opening. Makes me wonder if Disney has some sort of agenda with that? Either way SW interest me none and I am really glad I am gonna get in one more trip before all this hits. I know the crowds will be heavy at the end of March/early April, but I really think they may still not be as high as they will be with the SW opening dates. Might just tinker about the idea of adding on one more day just now. I wonder if there will be some people who might push their Spring Break/Summer trip back to these dates now since they are much closer than before?

Am I the only one with an early fall (Sept 7-14) trip already booked that is a little bummed by this news? Nervous about what this will mean for crowds during a time that is typically less busy. :(

I am right there with you. I have been booked for a week starting Sept 3rd and this adds some crowd stress for sure. HS gates will be a madhouse. I am happy for the expansion but being thrust into opening week unexpectedly is a bit of a facepalm moment.

Any rumors whether there will be a ticketed morning or evening event?

I was on the fence about adding a night to the beginning of our reservation and just rushed to book it before there is zero availability.

It's going to take me a little longer to figure out how I feel about this!

So disappointed with the opening date. We are scheduled to be there 8/31-9/8. I booked hoping to avoid the opening since it was projected as Late Fall. Somehow we have no moved up from late fall to late summer. My husband is a lot more optimistic about the whole thing than I am. Outside of my 6 year old, none of the rest of our family cares at all about Star Wars, so the thought of extra large crowds on a trip that I booked to avoid the madness and expected lower crowds is very disheartening.

My guess is the main thing lagging in the construction timeline is Rise of the Resistance. If that's not open until, say, December, and you wait to open the whole land then, paired with the holidays and everything, it becomes almost too much for them to handle from an operational standpoint. This way they can go ahead and get the area open, right at the beginning of the slower time of the year, boosting attendance then, and giving them time to iron out the kinks before the holidays.

Sort of like a hard soft open ha.

Do you happen to remember where you saw this? I haven't had time to browse for more information yet. We are staying deluxe so that could help us out if it were the case. Wishful thinking over here!

Just sitting here pounding my head on my desk!!! :sad2: We're booked for 3rd week in September and I was sooo hoping to be there before SWGE opened.

Plane tickets are booked. We're going.

DH is NOT a fan of crowds so I am just cringing. Does anyone know how fast the crowd calendar sites like Touring Plans will update with this new info?

Will need to rethink our whole trip plan now. Thanking my lucky stars this happened before our ADR booking window opened.

I saw on another website, "Disneyland guests will also be required to make a no-cost reservation to see the land from May 31-June 23, and it is unknown if Disney's Hollywood Studios will undergo a similar requirement."

This is the one about fastpasses, I'll see if I can find the one that mentions "select Disney Resorts" having EMH. They haven't mentioned exactly what that means...it might mean just deluxes/moderates, or it might be differentiating between onsite hotels vs offsite good neighbor hotels that NORMALLY get EMH access

What I read said that you will NOT need a reservation to access the park at WDW, however the area will have a capacity limit (separate from the limit for the entire DHS park). In other words, get there early early early or you likely ain't getting in at all.

We are there that opening week, booked on a bounce back last year, free dining, flights booked. So we aren’t able to rebook. I was really hopin for a toy story EMM that week. I don’t know if it will be continued now. One positive, we already got our ADRs!

Wow, I'm shocked!!! We lucked out completely. Our trip is booked August 15-23. Now fingers crossed the crowds will be super low cause no one will want to come the week before SW opens :rainbow:. Hey, I can dream right?! I think it's crazy that they won't rollout FPs to start...I can't even imagine what the wait times will be.

What exactly WILL be open in SGE come August 29th? Do you think "walking around to browse" will be an option or thoughts it will be body-to-body type crowds and should be avoided altogether?
When Pandora opened, I went on Day 3 and the line for the gift shop was longer than the queue for Flight of Passage lol
I think you can expect body to body for a good period of time
