Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

So far, no word on the Skyliner at the Stockholders meeting. However with Star Wars opening Sept 29th at WDW I would assume it has to be running before that.

It opens August, not September, we don't know what that means yet for the Gondolas.

Star Wars opening certainly makes this project timeline seem more interesting.

It's probably chicken or the egg.
Is star wars ahead of schedule? Is the skyliner ahead of schedule? are the phase two portion behind schedule. Might we never know.
Was the skyliner a contributing factor in opening star wars early?

In general I find it cool that the land is opening early, albeit in phases. I think it's a good sign that construction is going on schedule or better. Which is a nice change.

I can't imagine the skyliner is not open prior to Galaxy's Edge - I think they need it to transport people - even if only to DHS (maybe EPCOT IG come online later?)

Also think good chance MMRR is open as well as I understood part of building that now was to help with crowds for GE ... plus can't imagine having the grand opening for that in the middle of the first month of GE craziness

If they're doing SWGE in phases, I wouldn't be surprised for Skyliner to go in phases, either. I can see CBR <-> DHS open first, along with maybe CBR<->POP/AoA. I think they may hold the Riviera/Epcot line until construction is finished on Riviera, or at least to a stage where it won't endanger/interfere with passing gondolas.

If they wait for Riviera to be open they’ll be waiting until December.

Disney's official language leaves open possibility of Riviera opening earlier than December 16, but yeah it's still likely going to be a while after SWGE opens.

Official language:
"The official resort opening will be announced at a later date. Currently booking for reservations staring December 16, 2019."

Possible interpretation:
Official opening may still end up being December 16 but it could be sooner. If it couldnt be sooner they'd not differentiate "announced at a later date" and "currently booking ... starting."

They want the Skyliner running for SWGE so I expect it to be running (all lines) before riviera is open.

Shouldn’t be tough for them to get it open. The system is essentially ready, just minor stuff around it and cast member training. They should be able to get it open for whatever date they want at this point.

Yep.

Even though I am sad that I am missing star wars opening by less than a month (insert crying in ball in the corner here). I am excited because this could very well mean that the gondolas and Mickey and Minnie's Runaway train could both be up and running when we are there at end of July.

So why aren't they opening it late spring/early summer?

LOL! This is a classic case of you can't please everyone!

I'm booked to arrive 9 days after SWGE opens and considering moving my trip as I don't want to face the crowds that I anticipate will be in all the parks. Hoping I'm wrong but just can't tell at this point.
