The Running Thread - 2019

I got scolded on FB for saying I’d stop running rD events if she became the full time announcer. Very proud of that! ;)

This sort of thing will only cause division

My favorite was the Carissa appreciation post that was started on Facebook after the uproar over Rudy not being brought back. It was especially nice that she took the time to respond to the attention personally! :scratchin

I only think about math a fraction of the time that I'm running. Thinking about math in the corral is exponentially better than listening to those pre-race interviews, though.

Random QOTD based on above:
What is the oddest thing you have run with or seen someone else run with?

My answer:
A pocket full of my kid's fuse bead creations. Daycare was on my route and there was a melt down (kid, not beads) that I had not brought them home Friday night as they were apparently replacements for game pieces we just had to play over the weekend. Luckily, the door is a coded lock and there is no alarm system!

Catching up on some questions...

Fuel: I use Huma gels, Honey Stinger chews and Gatorade/Powerade primarily. I've tried nuun and don't care for the taste at all. I am definitely going to try some of the suggestions on here!

Disney: I was a Disney lover before I ever started running. We live about 6 hours from Disney and went every other year when I was younger, then my mom and I started yearly trips about 5 years ago and last year we went 5 times. runDisney has only increased the addiction, because I ran Marathon Weekend, Princess and Wine and Dine last year. With my mom retiring this year, we have shifted back to our yearly trips and they are strictly being planned around one of the run weekends.

Weird items: When I first started running, I didn't know what to carry for protection so I carried my granddad's leather police baton. :confused3 Once I purchased pepper spray, I became a lot faster from dropping that added weight. LOL. I honestly don't think I ever would have hit anyone with that baton but it was probably good to have just in case.

ATTQOTD:

The guy that did Goofy carrying a a tuba/sousaphone (not sure of the difference and too lazy to google it).

I don't remember the year. Pic is from from the internet, not mine.

I passed this guy at like Mile 4 of my first marathon so it was 2014. I swore to myself I would stay in front of him no matter how bad I felt in the late miles. I would NOT let the tuba guy pass me. Every so often I would slow down and hear his BUM-BA-BUM coming in the distance and pick up my pace. I was woefully undertrained for that first marathon and he did eventually pass me somewhere between mile 21 and the finish. I always tell the story about how this guy passed me carrying a tuba, when he carried it the whole half marathon the day before as well. He played the Mickey Mouse Club song the whole time, I remember it well.
Edited to add that, maybe obviously, this is the strangest thing I've seen anyone run with as well.

Two or three times, I have run the last half mile of my work run route with a bag of food from Sheetz (gas/convenience store chain here) because I didn't bring lunch to work, and I didn't want to have to drive back out after my run to get food.

People probably thought I was crazy (or really hungry).

Anybody feel like the crowd has gotten slightly less fun over the years? Like, I definitely see some cool costumes etc. but that year I feel like I saw more really unusual costumes/props than I have seen in all my other Disney marathons (3 others) combined.

I've done this, with the Wendy's and BK near my house.

How sweat resistant is the SPI belt? My screen is cracked.
I carry all my stuff in a plastic bag in my shorts pocket now, but I am not sure this is sustainable.
Not very. I have a Nathan belt too and some of the cigna belts from

That's a sousaphone. I've actually been looking for one to run with. Our Tuna Run relay team name is "I thought you said Tuba run" (it's a low ley race experience). I think Sousaphones are easier to run with given the way you wear them. So far all the ones I've found are several hundred $ and thats too much for a pun.

Oh goodness....I worked the last Star Wars race....there was a man, possibly carrying a "few extra pounds", running in a grass shirt and a coconut bra. I don't know how that is remotely linked to Star Wars, lol, and clearly probably wasn't but it was a scarring vision. I had a very hard time selling him his Galactic Princess Forever Rose Wand with just a coy smile and a "Have a Magical Day!" :scared:

That's more of an "interesting costume story" but, hey, he WAS running with a coconut bra. LOL
