If the closure is extended beyond 3/31, when do you think it will be announced?

Actually, one should think positive. Disney always wanted to film movies at these parks, which kind of hard with all the guests coming in. Maybe this is chance to start filming at the park.

I just wonder what governments CAN do if people just start staying .. the heck with it .. and just start re-opening their businesses.

I think it would go a LONG way to "healing" the country from this anxious and economic disaster by Disney announcing they are re-opening. Right now the "lock down" virus is spreading -- every local government is trying to one-up the next by imposing even more strict lockdowns, curfews, shelter-in-place. Heck Orange County (CA) just banned ALL public and private gatherings of people including WORK. (First, I am not sure how they can even do that legally).

So .. to get back to "normal" and heal .. it will take a big company .. a big tourist destination like Disney to say we are OPEN for business and the the "reopen" virus will spread and people will swallow their fear and start slowly moving back to normal (just with different precautions)

Will that be April 1st? I doubt it .. but only time will tell. We are taking severe lockdown methods here .. in theory the virus shouldn't be spreading as fast (or at all), right?

But we‘re not in full lockdown yet. Only some states have enacted the measures that NYC or Seattle or San Fran has and there are still tons of people flaunting the rules and heading out in large groups and spreading this. The real risk of this virus is the fact that very, very soon it is going to completely overwhelm the healthcare industry in this country. You keep advocating that the measures being put in place are too strict, but you don’t seem to grasp that once this really takes hold, there will not be beds, nor ventilators anywhere in the country and people will die that wouldn’t normally. Car accidents, heart attacks, strokes, etc will become much more life threatening then they already are because there won’t be anywhere for them to receive treatment as all beds will be filled by virus patients.

Is there a poll anywhere on the boards when people think the parks will reopen? I'm curious to see what people think and how it pans out. I have to admit, that I am seeing wildly discrepant ideas in this thread. It seems very much like society right now: one extreme or the other.

All I can say is wow

They had a press conference about an hour ago with the OC Health Supervisors who did some mad backpedalling.

Wow just doesn't quite cover it. And the real problem is - it's not an uncommon sentiment among certain groups.

As for when Disney will announce extending the closure - I'm sure they are waiting for the government to come out and force them to extend first so it doesn't look to their shareholders that Disney initiated it.

Anyone see this? Would Disney actually try this? Would they even be ALLOWED to try this? I think the negative press alone from their even considering it, would be a big hit to them. This would NOT sit well with most people.

The only way that would work would be to limit the number of people in the park by whatever % fits the equation at the time of opening (25%?) by selling limited tickets per day, no hopper. Similar to Discovery Cove. After X sold for that day that's it. Parks open early say 6am and stagger the entry times. You miss your window....sorry.... park like MK they could have the staggered entry move in the park together....going from one land to another in a given time frame....that way a limited amount of people are in each land in a given time.

Or something like that....just bit of a brainstorm

Oh dear Lord! Not another comparison to the flu! Stop with the comparisons to the flu. This is nothing like the flu. You can't compare the two.
I don't think zskid00 was making a comparison of the viruses, although they do have some similarities. I think he/she was pointing out that as a society we accept 12,000-30,000 deaths with little change in our collective behavior. I will agree that this virus is frightening because of the unknown, but it is fair to compare our response to our responses to other threats. It is my great hope that we will look back in years and realize that we may have slightly overreacted. I would rather err on the side of caution.
