Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

I watched alot of universal City walk videos. Everyone said wearing a mask in 80 degree humid weather on all that pavement was tough. Every review said the masks were hard to wear because of the humidity and pavement.

They are not hard to wear for 30 minutes at air conditioned target or for short durations but 2 hours is totally different than 30 mins the heat and air sweat builds up. I have serious doubts 100 degree weather masks are workable. I am sure insurance companies would not let Disney open without masks in parks. People are too close , markings are not enforceable . Hard to see kids wearing masks in that heat. I have serious doubt masks can work in a park in a shipping district sure seems to work just fine although uncomfortable.

Disney springs.

appropriate Face Coverings: All guests 3 years of age and older, along with cast members and third-party operating-participant employees, will be required to wear an appropriate face covering while visiting Disney Springs. This is an important part of protecting both our guests and our cast. Please be sure you have an ample amount of face coverings for yourself and your party before you arrive, as you’ll need to wear them over your nose and mouth at all times (except when sitting at a dining table).
Finally they give some details. I just tried masks on my kids for the first time today
My 2 year old is more willing to wear one then my 5 year old but her face is so tiny. She was failure to thrive as a baby and I haven't been able to find a mask that will fit her despite trying many (then again her face is the same size as my 12 month old...) So I'm glad they say 2 is exempt. Unfortunately, my almost 5 year old did not tolerate it well at all despite my getting her an Elsa one. She has sensory issues though. If this rule stays and MNSSHP is on, it looks like our going or not will hinge on if she can be trained or not. I'm leaning towards not since it took 2 years to get her to tolerate a bath in a bathtub...

For DVC resorts, all utensils and plates could be paper and plastic. As for pots and pans- just have to bring your own if you really want to cook. It’s not an issue for us. We eat in our villa, but don’t do ANY cooking. Heating something in the microwave is about as far as we go.

I missed this. Are stocked kitchens in DVC villas a no now? That stinks if so - we almost always stay in a 1 or 2 bedroom so we can cook and eat in the room. 😰
There has been no official word. The requirements about removing coffee makers etc, was in the task force recommendations.

They do have dishwashers, but the housekeepers would not be able to run every single item (large pots and pans, all the dishes, all the silverware, etc.) through every time a guest departs. The grand villas provide flatware, plates, bowls, etc. for 12 people.

When turning a room over for the next guest, housekeeping usually puts the dirty dishes through the dishwasher. They don’t clean every utensil, plate, cup, mug, pan, etc. from the cabinets that the guest has cleaned and put away themselves. They couldn’t possibly run that many loads.

Because you have no idea how the guest before you washed their items and touched them to put away, and housekeeping couldn’t possibly wash every single stocked kitchen item, I’m not sure what they will do. Having a stocked kitchen is a huge benefit for DVC and the many members who cook their own meals.

It will be interesting to see what they will do. I don't stay at those resorts, but I understand why people would want to and the kitchen could very well be one of the biggest factors.

I go to my beach condo for a month and I'm not about to stay there without a kitchen, but they have always said that the kitchen items aren't sterile or sanitized. I've always washed the things we use but it's just 2 of us. I'm definitely not cooking for 12 on vacation!

I haven't checked with the condo people either. We had to cancel our trip this spring because they closed when the county closed the beach. We do plan on going in September/October so I will need to contact them before we go to see what they are going to do.

I'm not even sure I want housekeeping in my condo. I'm thinking of asking for clean linens and I'll take care of the rest. Not what I want to do on vacation, either, but it may be necessary and at least, a very much welcome change of scenery by that time.

I didn't see anything mentioned about elevators being open for the parking garages. I imagine those handrails for the escalators will have CMs sanitizing like crazy.
at Citywalk there was a TM stationed there with the bottle squirting the hand rail as it came
The elevators need to be open for the use of people with strollers or wheelchairs

I have seen reported that those things aren't sanitized between guests. They are washed, but not sanitized.

We stay at a beach hotel every year with a kitchen and they have had that sign posted for 30 years. I always go in there first day and wash the entire kitchen. Not so much fun, but I stay there a month.

I'm fairly confident the coffee pots are not.

By washed, I am assuming these cups and glasses are put through a commercial dishwasher just like every utensil/place setting/glass/etc used by guests at a restaurant. If not......GROSS!!!

If a guest is that concerned about the coffee pot, can't they just wash it or use their own saniwipes?

We do the same when staying in a vacation condo. Youngest DD has severe allergies so I have to wash everything before we can use them...lol

I can see the replacing the cups/glassware with the disposable type. I am not sure what they are going to do about the coffee makers. The guidelines for hotels does call for removing them. I need my morning coffee, so if they remove them, I will have to buy a small one to bring (our Ninja coffeemaker is too big to transport).

I agree. Why not just replace coffee cups/glasses with disposable. At many of the Deluxe resorts, they have Keurigs. Why remove those? No coffee pot needed. K-cups are disposable, You can easily dispense into a disposable cup instead of ceramic.

I NEED my cup of coffee to function in the morning. I too would just bring a small Keurig and k-cup supply in my suitcase if these were permanently removed.

I don't think they are put through a commercial dishwasher. Have you ever seen a housekeeper removing kitchen items?

I don't think they are washed in any hotel anywhere. I've traveled extensively for more than 50 years and I have never seen anyone taking the glasses out to be washed, much less anything else.

The kind of mask you wear makes a huge difference, I mean, night and day! A lot of these homemade masks are really thick and make breathing hard, I have one from my sister that is a good mask all things considered, but it gets uncomfortable to wear longer than a short shopping trip, and would be too hot to wear outside in the heat. I have non-surgical disposable masks that are far more comfortable and easy to breathe, and I plan to use them in the mornings at the park and put them in a bag I will take to dispose of them that is sealed (well, a ziploc bag). Today I got some brand new masks from Jaanuu (my favorite scrub company) that has a breathable mesh fabric on the side that touches your face, and the outside is a moisture wicking scrub material that is treated with an antimicrobial. That thing is a game changer, air moves well when you breathe, and for once I didn't feel like I was suffocating or giving myself a steamed breath facial. It was already near 80 and humid outside so I went out and moved around in the sun with it on, and I could 100% wear it for long periods of time, and will be ordering more for myself. They are a nicer mask so I plan on wearing them more in the afternoon/evening when we have ADRs (as long as those are still a go), but I could honestly wear them for most of the day no problem. Masks are most definitely not created equal. Also, as someone who has worked in an insurance company.....they don't care.

I was going to say, escalator railings are pretty easy to clean, no moving required! Just spray on to a cleaning rag or on to the railing itself, apply rag to rail, stand there.

I bet they won't take items out of the rooms BUT it would make sense that due to limits on guests, Disney could alternate room assignments at check in. That way they could sanitize, reset and then let the room stay empty for a certain number of days thus reducing the exposure risk. I assume that a 50% capacity this could be done. Maybe???

Ah, finally we have a line in the sand. Now the part I have been looking forward to. How big is the anti-mask boycott contingent? Temperature checks are just for optics as anybody can pop a fever suppressor and go shopping, but the mask thing may move the needle on revenue. I feel bad for the third party stores paying big DS rents that may be collateral damage in reaction to this. Thankfully the county gave Disney some cover by requiring masks anyway, for now. That one part about extra CM was another interest of mine. Overall, how much in additional costs will Disney have to incur to open parks with the safety measures. If you are opening at 125% of pre-covid costs and only getting 50% of the pre-covid revenue, it is probably cheaper to stay closed...but, there is much value to opening even at a loss. Fascinating for a business nerd!

well they haven't hired anyone new for the new "position" this could be going to CM that were already there handing out maps.
As to their profit, they will lose money for quiet some time, but we might see cancelling of fireworks and other live entertainment for the sake of safety....and cut on cost
