Where will you travel this summer?

You can't rent a car. They options to drop a car on the other side are suspended as far as I've looked but I have seen a few articles of people doing what I'm going to do. Snowbirds mostly and I got the idea from another man who was staying with his girlfriend for a few weeks and them coming back because he's in school here. Another couple winters in Arizona, they are having a friend drop their car off on the canadian side of the border and they will walk across and pick it up. You still have to take the test beforw you enter, another when you enter and you are given another to take at home 10 days later (which you don't get when you fly in). It doesn't break any rules and is probably safer than interacting with everyone involved with checking you, delivering meals, cleaning yoyr room and security when you go outside for fresh air.

Are you sure you can't rent a car? I'm seeing 1 day car rentals available for July. I assumed I could drop it off if I'm able to rent it?

I've tried but everytime I try to pick a drop-off location on the opposite side of the border itbsays that location isn't available. If you find one let me know

Oh ok I'll try again. It could be that I was trying to places in Hamilton. I wouldn't be going to Toronto as the border is about as close to me as Toronto except in the opposite ditection

Eta: Tried Avis again amd when I chose Hamilton or the Toronto airport it told me that the location for pickup (buffalo airport) was sold out. When I picled return to same location it allowed me to continue.

Eta: Ky original dates I tried were in May. When I tried again for September it worked so I still wouldn't count on a rental car because if things don't change at the border I'm pretty sure your rental would be cancelled.

Hmmm, weird. I'm not sure then. It's working for the dates I'm putting in (in June). I'm just trying to figure out my options.

Yea I just edited my post. I think in the US they are a lot more optimistic about the border opening but I would hate to count on a rental and then have it cancelled.

It’s hard because I feel we can’t really plan. We hope to be able to go to Disney end of August if the border opens back up in the summer, but I feel we won’t know that until June. So until then we don’t want to plan any Canadian trip. But I think if borders stay closed we will maybe go to Vancouver or Toronto. Totally different directions but I’m thinking one of those.

For my friends on the east coast. Has there been any talk of the inter-provincial travel ban (Atlantic Bubble) being lifted by summer? My Dad is just outside Moncton and I'd love to go see him. Haven't seen him in almost two years at this point. I'm in Ontario.

I am in NB... last I heard they are hoping for Atlantic Bubble this spring then to open to the rest of Canada this summer. My sisters in Alberta are really hoping to come home too this summer.

Yes. The Atlantic Bubble is expected to be re-opened in a few weeks, and they are expecting to start re-opening to the rest of Canada starting in May or June.

Our July trip to WDW is officially canceled since my daughter won't be vaccinated by that time, we will hold off until July 2022. I am a nurse and have been lucky enough to be fully vaccinated, so in September I am off on a 3 week solo trip to Eastern Europe, somebody would have to tie me down to prevent me from going!

I wouldn't plan anything that currently involves a quarantine order because as we have seen things we think will change shortly often take months longer. Hopefully by the end of summer the whole thing will be clearer and we can start planning again

Like others, I have many plans on the go. I love vacation planning, so this is a great distraction right now. So... our options are... Disneyworld, Hawaii, Maritime Cottage, RV around Ontario or last option of course... the staycation! :)

Our decision will be last-minute, and largely based on the quarantine requirements + infection rates. Both DH and myself are vaccinated.

Good luck everyone!

It's great some of you want to cross the border right now. Personally I don't think it's worth it for all the things you have to do just to visit the Mouse.

Our vacation plans are staying in Canada this summer. Going to Collingwood in May for a few days. Montreal for a few days in July to visit La Ronde. Hoping that Wonderland does open this year as I have a season pass.

As far as the border goes, hoping for by next February we can get to Florida. Plan is to stay in Tampa for a week. Visit Busch Gardens and ride some world class coasters.

NS here. We'll be sticking to our own province this year - but we're campers, so it's not the end of the world. If we're feeling really wild and crazy we might book NB or PEI for a long weekend but that's about it. With how good we've been doing here, and with the majority of our cases being related to either travel or close contact of someone who's travelled... yeah, I don't really think it's worth it (to us) to go further afield. Especially with how fast the bubble popped in November - I wouldn't want to have something booked and then have to cancel at the last second because the rules changed. The rest of the world will be there for us next year :)

I am sticking pretty close to home this summer.
My plans are mostly outdoors activities

:Butterfly conservatory (currently closed)

Outdoor market in St Jacobs
(Part of me wants to do an overnight stay but I am still a bit conflicted).

Niagara On The Lake is another thought.

I should also mention my brother told me I could come over and borrow his Quad and do a bit of off road driving if I get really adventurous ,,,lol. Who knows I might just take him up on it.
I used to go quadding years ago all the time ,,,,but it has been a few years...............................:rolleyes1

I hope everyone finds a few things to keep themselves happy & busy this summer.
Be safe everyone!

Hugs

So the Koa we have booked although only 30 mins away is now in a red zone.. and the way our numbers are going .. sigh

We are in BC and hoping we can spend a week off the island in early June but after yesterdays press conference it sounds like no changes for the next 3 months as far as travel restrictions out of our areas. Crossing fingers and toes that as the vaccinations continue we might get to ease up on that part of our restrictions.

I feel like a kid who was grounded and is begging to get released for good behavior. I promise I will keep behaving please let me go on a road trip :worship:
