Sci-Fi Dine In...Yay or Nay?

As someone who hates change, I typically stick with character meals and buffets for our family trip. With those not being an option, I'm struggling to find sit-down restaurants that will make everyone happy.

We have two days at Hollywood Studios, on one we will be eating at 50's Prime Time. Do you guys recommend Sci Fi Dine In Restaurant? Or would you consider it a waste of money? Thanks for any opinions and suggestions!!!

I think it's fun to do and it's always enjoyable to laugh at the terrible outdated commercials the theater plays. The food is just standard but I hear the milkshakes are good (I haven't had one recently)

IMO it’s the best themed restaurant at WDW. The food is nothing amazing, but not bad. It’s definitely worth visiting at least once for the experience!

We love Scifi dinein! The drive in theatre atmosphere is fun, and the old movie clips are hilarious! The food is good and yes, the milk shakes are awesome! You get alot of food when you order, and I can never finish it. I don't think you and your family will be disappointed.

The theming there is great and a lot of fun. The food is average...good, but not anything to write home about. You go for the atmosphere.

We love the theming! My kids always want me to make reservations there. So we’ve been there several times. I think the food is fine, but not spectacular. And we always get milkshakes, because it’s fun. However, I don’t think they taste any better than Sonic’s. If you’ve never been, it’s definitely a place to try at least once!

I can tell you it is almost impossible to get at less than 60+3 days out anywhere from 11am-1pm or 5pm-8pm. We had an easier time getting Be Out Guest at an actual meal time. We got it at our 60+3 day at 1:50. Tried in September 2019 and March 2020 pre closure to no avail. So go for it first if you want it-

I’m having the exact same experience. We’ve eaten there before. It’s cute! Can’t get a reservation for five in June this time!

It was a fun experience. Not the greatest food, but definitely not the worst we've had at Disney. It was on par with a regular diner. I think it was the only burger I ate on that trip.
My husband wants to go back on our next trip and I'm not against it, but I'm also not going to rush to make the reservation first on our list, either.

It was aggressively mediocre even by HS standards the one time I ate there, but I loved the theming and it was a wonderful break in some nice dark A/C on a stupid hot day.

Yes, only very few tables that aren't cars.

This was always one of our very favorite stops and my kids loved it every time. It is hard to overstate how cool and refreshing it is there in the summer heat - go if you can at any time - you will be so grateful for the break and your kids will be happy with the menu and the whole experience. Don’t order anything ambitious - milkshake for kids, a beer for mom and dad? An overpriced hamburger (no reflection on Sci-Fi as every burger in WDW is overpriced). Don’t let them sit you at one of the regular tables (if they still have those - used to be a few next to the walls) - your kids will be sad to miss out sitting in the cars. Tell them you’ll wait for a car.

we like it here. the kids think its cool, but if you are a large party you will be split up because the cars/tables only hold so many people

I would do Hollywood Brown Derby instead the food is just ok at Sci Fi and hard to talk to the other people in the car if more than 2 and the same clips play over and over.

We always made it a point to eat here on our Hollywood day(s); ditto what everyone is saying about cool atmosphere, escape from the heat, etc. Food is average at best, but still fun. We'd always ordered a few meals, some appetizers, and at least one dessert. Never an issue with an allergy-friendly salad.

The last two times we were there (Spring Break 2021), we walked out and said, "maybe we'll try ABC or Backlot again." Way overpriced, sub-par food, very long wait (depite reservations) and some real snarky attitude about ordering off the kid's and allergy menus. I would prepare to be "underwhelmed" - enjoy the theming if you go, but don't expect much in terms of service or food.

They need to bring back the picnic burger !!! We always enjoy it, especially the specialty shakes !!

I like the food and love the atmosphere - but it’s almost impossible to book with the virus limitations on car/table sharing...

Getting a rezzi at Sci Fi these days is as rare as snow in July.
