STAR WARS: GALACTIC STARCRUISER Official Information & Questions Thread

I would pay obscene amounts of money for Adult Only Days at WDW or the GS.

Kids being kids isn't my issue but the parent reaction to their kids being kids. Do they try to soothe or manage the situation or just allow the meltdown ignoring the looks from others?

Also, since each participant on the GS is provided a datapad to interact with and choose their own story there is the possibility that parents/kids storylines will not align. A choice will need to be made to stay together or allow the kid to be on their own. At $145 an hour that is an expensive babysitter. I think this would work **IF** each parent is honest about their childs ability to be on their own, and I am referring to all ages of kids. I would have an issue if there was an unsupervised kid in one of my group activities that deterred from the experience because they were "just being a kid".
I'll try to take a shot at this having just come back from GS with 3 kids. I'll admit on my trip, I was a parent with a kid that had a meltdown. DS3 did not like being separated from DH and DS11 who were off on their own story lines and cried very loudly in the atrium during a major story point taking place there. I tried consoling him to no avail and looked for the nearest place I could duck into with him. A cast member spotted me eyeing the empty bridge and offered to let me stay in there with him to let him cry it out. At least that way it wouldn't ruin the experience for everyone else in the atrium. After a few minutes, I told him we would go find DH and DS11 and that calmed him down enough that he had no further meltdowns once I found DH.

DS11 was "mature" enough to be trusted on his own and he had a blast running off with other kids. Eventually I found out he chose the opposite storyline from me so we ended up having different experiences. Honestly me finding out he hid that from me for 24 hours was a "why you little traitor" moment.

DS3 and DS7 wanted nothing to do with the data pad. I tried furthering their story for them to match mine but I pretty much gave up juggling 3 data pads after the first night. It seemed not to be a problem in the end because I toted them along with me to my experiences and the CMs manually punched them in along with me even though they never got past the basic first day dialogues.

DH got pulled along into a random LARPing group at one point, so I ended up playing babysitter for a good chunk of the trip, which was frustrating at times. We've pretty much decided that if we ever come back to this experience it'll be when all the boys are older, much to DS11's dismay because he wants to come back as early as next year lol and we told him not until he's 18.

I give you credit @Bluemystique! One of my core memories is eating at Flying Fish with my then 3 year old DS. Full on meltdown next to a childless couple next to us. On the flip side, this is also one of my best Disney memories. After turning to the couple and apologizing profusely, one half of the couple promptly pulled out their cell phone and came over to show my son the video they had taken that day of the Star Wars parade at HS. He let my son keep his phone during dinner and talked to him throughout, totally distracting him from his meltdown. My DH and I still talk about this memory often. It it truly one of the reasons that we love WDW so much. I just wish that this person knew how much of an impact just being kind and understanding had on our lives!

Not really adding anything to this convo, but your statement made me realize that when we were there last week, I didn’t see anyone that I thought was dressed more elaborately than I normally see. Now I’m kind of disappointed, in hindsight, that I didn’t see any Starcruiser guests larping!
We ran into two couples in line at RotR and saw several other people in SWGE. Must depend on the time of day you're there. These people were having a fantastic time and their energy was contagious. Very fun!

If in-park folks want to see passengers' potential LARPing gear, then I suggest coordinating a DHS:GE trip from earliest possible rope drop till about 11am on the excursion day. Between 11-1p, there still might be some people doing missions or having lunch on planet. After 2pm, there's events on the ship and by 4pm the "last shuttle" has left Batuu.

I had the same experience…I was also looking for anyone with a pin or GS band in…but no luck. I asked a cast member where they all were andshe told me most come early and go back. Makes sense for me, I didn’t get there till about 10ish. We are planning to do the same thing when we go in 2 weeks….avoid heat and crowds

I see someone else posted the link to the actual Starcruiser costume page above. I was hoping to see more choices from Disney, too. I ended up doing a deep dive at Etsy. They have some amazing cosplay outfits. But they aren't cheap...
I did some random searches yesterday on Amazon and the web in general and found some interesting items that we might be able to make work. Here are some examples...

For me:
654775
654778
654781

For her:
654783
654784
654785

And every item shown cost less than $30.

How long did you stay on Batuu? What did you do while there?

Did all 4 of you use data pads? And did you all follow the same story?

Did you participate in any of the cruise type activities like Droid racing or Bingo? Any you would recommend?

DS and I went down around 8:30 and stayed until just after 11. DS rode MFSR (not my jam due to motion), we both rode ROTR, did some data pad stuff, and we were ready to get back. For context we get to WDW several times a year and have done everything at SWGE, so there wasn’t all that much else we wanted to do there - plus it was packed. Most voyagers definitely seemed to stay on Batuu much longer.

DW and DD went down sometime later after us and may or may not have gone to some strange toy planet for a bit. :-)

They gave us all data pads, but frankly it was a bit much for DD7. The communications and various inputs just move too fast so there’s a line somewhere with what ages it will work for and others that won’t. DS11 was all in as he’s more in the “device” age range and can follow things, better than the adults to be honest.

But for us DD7 not really following the data pad had pretty much zero impact on the experience - she just went with the flow of whatever and there are many moments where younglings are involved. It’s hard to explain it all exactly. We did read parts to her and let her pick things, but other things we just waived off given the flow of the moment or we involved her in our stories

No, we did not all follow the same story and I think that’s what made it even more fun.

We did droid racing and the bingo game. Both are cute but not mind blowing activities - think more like afternoon Disney pool games. But it’s at a time when there are fewer people on the ship so just being in the atrium/around the ship is fun.

Hope that helps!

I'm looking forward to LARPing when we're there, and that's saying a lot since I'm normally an introvert's introvert. But hey it's a (likely) once-in-a-lifetime experience, so what the heck.

We're assembling some costumes from items you can buy on amazon, or elsewhere on the web (see my post above this one). I have also concocted a character/persona for myself, and I plan to try to remain in character as much as possible during our stay. I've even gone so far as to order fake business cards for my character that I can hand out during the cruise.

Edited to add: I also had some custom T-shirts made for myself, my fiancée and her friend who is joining us on the trip. The T-shirts are parodies of common, goofy t-shirts, but the writing is in Aurebesh. Mine says, "I made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs, and all I got was this lousy T-shirt." My fiancée's says, "I'm with laser brain," with an arrow pointing to me. And the one I had made for her friend has the outline of the Death Star and says, "Keep calm and use the Force."

This is awesome! Have a great time!

I’m actually an introvert, but we do Halloween big in this house - as well as attend Celebration and other conventions occasionally. So, I do have some pretty elaborate costumes that I wouldn’t hesitate to wear if I ever decide to jump on the SC. All of our costumes are prequel era, and I wouldn’t change that for anything, so we may not fit in with the aesthetic, but we’d have a good time!

Anything Star Wars is going to work. Because of the "way back history" of the Halcyon, you could easily say you are celebrating the early days of inter-system travel by wearing prequel era outfits. I'm hoping that more people get into some type of themed gear as the cruises go onward. Was only on the 2nd official voyage, and I'd say 50% were in modern-park-adjacent dress. 100% of the people (that I interacted with) were kind and welcoming regardless of what they wore, and it was clear that some folk were trying it out cause it was the new shiny thing. Shiny! (Ooops, different franchise ;) ) But seriously, a weathered prequel look is going to absolutely ROCK the excursion day. And if you're one of the folks that wears armour.... bring it! You can sleep on the bin!! (just kidding, not really. ;) ) Buckets/Helmets need to be held of course, but if you get a portrait package it's worth having it.

Just a note on the PhotoPass vs Portrait Package. We did both and there was a remarkable difference in the quality of photos. If you've worked hard on your costumes, or just really want to memorialize your experience well- go with the portrait package. After the premium cost for the cruise, I found it well priced. That said, if you have a REALLY good resident photographer in your personal cruise crew, by all means utilize the resources you have! The portraits are only 20-25min of photo time... by ready to pose and "move along- move along" quickly.

You are *so much* my type of nerd!!! These shirts are great! I wore this type of outfit for my disembarkation day. It was the old Shag Cantina tiki shirt deconstructed into a women's tiki dress. So, it wasn't "in character" but it was 100% SW nerdiness. :D Thank you for sharing the pics and cool shirt ideas! (Any chance of getting contact info to have the Death Star shirt done for other folx?)

I had the custom T-shirts made on a site called customizedgirl.com. I'm sure there are tons of custom shirt sites out there, and there may be some better, and/or cheaper, than customized girl, but I've been using that site for almost 10 years and never been disappointed.

You do have to be careful sometimes to explain what you're going for, especially if you doing something with a non-standard font. When I had the shirts made, I used their standard fonts and explained that I wanted the words "translated into" and printed in Aurebesh. They got my shirt and my fiancee's right, but printed her friend's in English. I contacted them about the mistake and they sent me a corrected shirt at no charge.

Here's what the designs looked like prior to translation into Aurebesh:

My shirt is actually navy tie-dye with gold lettering rather than the silver shown above, so I must have resaved the design at some point. It also has "And all I got was this lousy T-shirt" printed on the back. I don't have any pics of the final products handy.

I'll also mention, I'm not a graphic designer, nor am I good with things like photoshop, so what I tend to do with graphics like the Death Star is draw them in Paint and try to get the background color to match the shirt color as closely as possible, then explain in my order that I don't want that background color printed like you see in my crude renderings above. lol Anyone whose 1/2way competent with photoshop could probably make the team at customizedgirl's lives much easier than I do.

Found a pic of the finished shirts on my phone (including the Keep Calm "error" shirt):

Do you have any links? Or can you share what keywords you used when searching?
I'm going to assume it's OK to post all of these here. My apologies to the moderators if not.

Links:

For her 1

For her 2

For her 3

For him 1

For him 2

For him 3

For him 4

For him 5

And there are other options you can find on those webpages if you scroll down and look at the "You might also like" suggestions.

The Light-in-the-box site (For him # 3-5) especially seems to have some really cool militaristic-looking shirts. Downside is they are from Asia, and listed as "slim fit", so I have no idea how the sizing will run. I also haven't ordered from them before and haven't received my current order yet, so I can't speak to the quality of the products, or their customer service. Caveat emptor. :)

ETA: Keywords I used when searching were "Men's collarless shirts", and "tunic dress", and variations of those. I found that using search terms like "futuristic shirt" or "steampunk shirt" or "cyberpunk dress" could get you close and you could go from there. Terms like "Sci-fi shirt" or "Star Wars shirt" tended to turn up results with logos and or photos from movies or TV shows on them.
