DCA Food & Wine Festival 2022 Superthread - Read First Post for Updates - Now Updated with Full Menus

Heading home from spending yesterday and the early part of the day in the parks. Thought I'd share our top highlights from food and wine.

#1 carbonara Mac and cheese - seriously so good. We got it twice

#2 black and tan potato Puffs

#3 snickers macaron - seriously tasted like snickers

#4 fried artichoke dip - I personally could have done without the sauce

#5 the strawberry cheesecake

We had also tried the French onion slider (very meh), the steak dish from garlic kissed (BIL liked it), the artichoke tapanade, the chocolate Hazelnut crunch, maple bacon churro, and the horchata cold brew. I may be missing a few items. Lines could be crazy long for pick up, especially at garlic kissed. But all in all we enjoyed it.

Booths officially close at 9pm, just wanted to share that.

We had some items last night. The best thing was the Black and Tan Potato puffs. Outstanding, and maybe the single best Festival food item I've ever had at DCA. It was perfect.

We also tried the IPA sausage dog, which had great flavor, but was SO messy to eat and also cold, which was slightly gross (cold fake nacho cheese really turns me off). Everything BUT the sausage was cold, so this one was just "meh"overall.

The Cubano Slider was excellent! It was a perfect mini Cuban sandwich. If I have onecriticism, it's that the pickle slice is way too thick. The ham was perfectly shaved thin and the pork had a very smokey flavor, but the thick pickle overwhelmed the whole thing. Thankfully I love a good DL pickle, so I didn't mind, but I recomend taking the pickle out and eating it separately.

We also had the Cheddar Beer soup and Prosciutto & Fig jam toasted sandwich. The soup was perfect, but I wasn't a fan of the sandwich. The fig jam was too sweet for me, but my husband loved it! I dunked some of the sourdough crust into the soup, though and YUM!

We also tried 2 of Brewery X hard seltzers. They have quickly become a favorite local brewery. We had the Huckeberry Hard Seltzer which I loved, but my husband thought was too sweet (I disagree, I didn't find it sweet at all). We also had the Boysenberry Lemonade seltzer and that one we both loved. Definitely recommend Brewery X hard seltzers to anyone who isn't a huge beer fan but likes fizzy drinks. They are the only brand of hard seltzer that I enjoy. The flavors are well developed and potent.

We will be returning Tuesday afternoon for some more!

Super glad to hear that! I was hoping DLR was a different culture than WDW. Thanks!
Just wanted to chime in with another reassurance that it is very different out West. I have experience with EPCOT food and wine on a weekend and OMG I would never again. Too many crazy drunks. I've definitely never had that experience at Disneyland. I think it's because numerous people go to EP to drink while basically nobody goes to DCA with the goal of drinking all day. The options just aren't as appealing, the cost is higher and there aren't 12 different countries to bar crawl through. Yes, there are incidents but they are few and far between :)

Went again yesterday for a lunch date with my husband.

We had a few new items:

French Onion Tenderloin Slider: this was disappointing. The tenderloin was cooked perfectly, and nice and tender, but had ZERO flavor. Honestly, it wouldn't kill them to salt and pepper the steak before cooking. There was also not enough onion, considering it's a French Onion slider. The bun was cold and hard. The cheese sauce was good, although that was the dominant flavor. More a "beef and cheese" slider than french onion. 3/10

Chile Relleno Empanada: AMAZING! I did not expect to like this as much as I did. I don't even like Chile Relleno, really. This was basically a cheese empanada with some tiny bits of pepper inside. What made it amazing was the sauce on top. It was spicy, so beware, but the flavors in this item were perfect. 9/10 (kinda small for the price and for sharing...get your own)

Grilled Top Sirloin from Garlic Kissed booth: This was another fantastic item. It reminded me of dinner at a Brazilian Steakhouse. So much flavor in this one too! The sirloin chunks were tender and the chimichurri was excellent. The smashed potatoes were creamy and just slightly cheesy. There was nothing wrong with this dish, except I would have loved a portion 2X the size. The portion was generous, but we were sharing and I wish I got my own. Maybe next time, I'll get one all for me. 10/10

Also from the Garlic Kissed booth, I tried the Rosemary Bitter Orange Mule. I liked this a lot. The rosemary flavor was super subtle, so don't be turned off by that. I struggled to find the "bitter" in this drink. It was very refreshing, not too sweet, and had a strong orange flavor. The presentation was nice, with a thick slice of orange (which I ate later). This was a weak drink, not gonna lie, but I enjoyed it. Won't get you buzzed though, and for $14, it really should. I'm a lightweight, FWIW, so that's how I know this drink was, at most, 1oz of vodka and 15oz juice and ginger beer. I might get it again, I might not. 8/10

Brisket Fries at Paradise Garden Grill: I had been looking forward to these and they were just okay. It was a giant plate of crappy, skinny theme park fries, so naturally they were cold by the time we started eating them. They lumped all the toppings in the center, so we had to kind of mix them up to get everything evenly distributed. These kind of reminded me of the pulled pork bbq fries from Flame Tree BBQ at Animal Kingdom in WDW. The brisket and sauce was good. I think real shredded cheese melted would have been a better choice due to the soggy factor of liquid nacho cheese, although these could also have been improved by thicker, heartier fries (like they switched to at Red Rose Tavern). Im also a bit suspect that this is actually brisket. In my experience, brisket is usually sliced or cubed. This was shredded, with some larger chunks that you could shred. Not sure I've ever had brisket like that. Makes me think it's just another cut of slow smoked and pulled beef. Glad we tried them, and they filled us up, but once and done. 5/10.

And now, not a F&W Fest item, per se, but we had the Blueberry Lemon Bread Pudding from Pacific Wharf Cafe (this item has been around before) and OMG, YUM! This is SO good. It's my favorite of the seasonal bread puddings. Definitely try if you are a fan of lemon/blueberry. The lemon is subtle. It's mostly blueberry. The whipped cream on top is chef's kiss perfection. 10/10

FWIW, I did not find the crowds too heavy yesterday. It was certainly less busy than last Saturday had been, in terms of lines at the food booths. Glancing at wait times for rides and most were 60 min or under, which is not too bad. We didn't do any rides this time, but not because of lines. We just were there for lunch, and people watching. It was sunny, though and I got my first sunburn of the year, so watch out and sunscreen up, because the strong sun is back! I don't typically wear sunblock in the winter months (except on my face), so this is my cue to start up again.

Here now and lines are so long at the booths. I did read here that you can order for all the booths at once, so will keep that in mind, but any other tips?

Honestly order everything you want at one booth , that will save lots of time.
You then save your receipt and bring it to pickup the items. Usually the pickup lines are still shorter and wish I did this strategy when it was first introduced.

It's basically prime time lunch/early dinner time when the food festival gets the busiest. Thursday through Monday are usually the most hectic.

Thank you for all your reviews! Between that and watching YouTube videos I know exactly what I want to try and which ones I will be 100% avoiding. 😆

S&S pass is $5 off with a Disney Visa or a Magic Key. So $52 with a discount vs. $57 full price.
Also something to note if this matters to anyone, the lanyards are different depending on how you're paying. So the regular full price pass comes with 1 lanyard, if you buy it with your MK it comes with a different lanyard, and if you use your Disney visa it comes with yet a different lanyard lol. I realized this after I bought a pass with the MK discount and my BIL bought one with the visa discount.

Well borders did not close, so I can report in for once. ;)

There's two dishes that I tried twice: The Mac and Cheese from the Garlic Kissed booth and the French Onion Tenderloin Slider.

Mac and Cheese were everyone's favorite by far, hands down. Worth every second in the ridiculously long and slow moving line.

The French Onion Slider was really good the first time I tried it, but the second time I got a really bad cut of meat that I could barely chew. I got a seasoned batch, probably that helped. ;)

The same issue with Grilled Top Sirloin with roasted garlic-Gruyère smashed potatoes and black garlic chimichurri from Garlic Kissed. I loved the flavor and the mashed potatoes were to die for, but the meat was gritty and chewy and I hated it.

Black & Tan Beef Potato Puffs: A favorite which we all shared and enjoyed. I also really liked the California Cooler from the same booth, my friends thought it needed more lemon flavor.

Strawberry Cheesecake with Lemon Chantilly from Berry Batch: yuck. Tasted like flavored plastic.

Peperoni Pizza Slider from Smokejumpers Grill: I will admit I got this cause I was hungry and the line was so short. I was pleasantly surprised. The sauce was a bit overpowering. I liked it well enough, still the pizza burger from Black Tap was way better.

Brisket Fries from Paradise Garden Grill: This had been a "must do" for both of us. Disappointed doesn't even begin to cover it. We got like 10 fries each, with my friend getting like 3 slifers of meat and me one big chunk. Overall we considered it way too hot and we both ran for icecream after desperately sucking on the ice in our waters brought no relief.

That mac and cheese is seriously to die for. I wish Disney would do a version of it all year long!

The carbonara mac and cheese? OMG 🤤 that stuff is amazing. I ended up getting it again right before we left DCA so that was the last thing my taste buds encountered.

I agree - we need that year round.

That's on top of my list for next month !
I do miss the ghost pepper Mac and Cheese from 2019 and 2020..

So you're saying buy the trifecta and see if you can sell it on ebay?:rotfl2:
