Spring Surprise (March 31-April 3rd 2022)

For what it's worth, "supply chain issues" can mean a TON of things.

• We weren't able to get the raw materials to make the thing
• We have the raw materials, but we don't have the workers, because they're sick or on lockdown
• We made the thing, but can't transport it
• We made the thing, and transported it, but it's at the loading dock and there's nobody available to unload it
• etc etc etc

I work in computing, so right now we're dealing with a LOT of the first two bullets above. Entire major computing projects are being delayed because we can't get components.

My biggest disappointment is that my daughter is running her first challenge and literally said this past weekend “that will be so fun to wear my first challenge medal around the park “. She has run two 5Ks and one Half, but this will be her first challenge. And she has been so excited about this weekend.

I have described to her so many times that special feeling of giving and getting congratulations to the runners around the parks after races. It is like being part of a special club you had to earn membership into. Ultimately there is still the sense of accomplishment and pride in doing something hard and a medal is not needed for that. But it is such a symbol.

Fingers crossed it works out, but this is sad.

Wearing your medal at the parks for photos is a big reason why I run Disney races. Having that taken away really stinks. Mailing it to me later does absolutely nothing for me.

Maybe the medals will arrive by Friday and at least we will receive some of our medals after the races.

I suggest that everyone infuriated by this turn of events send RunDisney a strong message by boycotting registration for the Dopey Challenge.

Not to twist the dagger, but looking at latest guidance and it looks like rain with embedded storms will move in Thu night and sadly continue into Friday. Cold front will park itself across Central Florida and Orlando will be in a very warm and muggy environment.

I’m expecting a rainy Friday and leaning towards Expo that day instead of my originally planned expo Thursday and MK Friday. 10K and 10M looks ok with maybe some showers around but expect scattered to numerous rain/storms Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Once we get within 48 hours things usually become more clear as more high resolution models can be looked at, but this is what is known now. Traveling to MCO tonight but I’ll try to update once a day!

I hope they figure a way to distribute them to those of us who will be at the resort next week so we can still wear them to the parks and get pictures. It would suck if they arrived on Monday but they mailed them to my house when I am still down there.

They won't be arriving Monday. The medals will not be there. It will likely be months before the medals are delivered.

Overall, this is just another rinse and repeat issue by this Mickey Mouse organization. I get supply chain issues. I really do. This feels more like an internal issue than a supply chain issue. Once again, Disney does not want to be held accountable.

My hope is that this is just for one of the medals instead of all of the medals. Maybe it is just the challenge medal or something. Overall, I hope Disney learns from this mistake and plans better for future races knowing that we are in a pandemic and these sort of things should have ordered to arrive months prior instead of closer to the date.

I’m disappointed with the medal thing because I went through hell and high water to get my 5k registration. ( like I literally only got it last week) and it’s still not “offfical” because the charity had issues, had running buddy drop out due to shingles, and a bunch of other fun stuff. I’m not too worried though because they have to have some medals, so maybe I’ll cross the finish line before they run out!

Head to WWoS either Thursday 10a-6 or Friday expo opens @ noon but don’t know off hand closing time

There are three buildings for the expo and there will be copious signs

Advent Health Arena is where official branded merchandise will be as well as a few photo backdrops for selfies

State Farm Field House is bib pick up and the only place you will need to show expo pass as well as a photo ID….

Visa Center is the Health and Wellness expo where there are venders ads well as shirt pick up (you MUST have a bib to get the shirt)

Yeah I'm super bummed about the medals. Princess was going to be my first RunD race, but I couldn't race due to an injury. Now I'm flying down solo to do this 10k and 10M. I also booked MK on Sunday just to get the medals pic in front of the castle (even tho I leave for airport at 12:30 and I'm staying near Epcot - it's actually the only reason I booked a 3 day ticket). A real bummer. Seriously hoping there's at least 1 medal to give us.

Yeah, I don't get to WDW until mid day Friday, so I'm not getting my hopes up about anything at the expo...
