How wet do you get on POTC?

How wet do you get on POTC? We are going in early December and don't want to be walking around wet all day. Several years ago when we were last there, it seemed they were having issues with people getting very wet. Thanks for any recent experiences.

I’ve ridden POTC hundreds of times and never gotten wet. I might have got a droplet on me from the cannons but that about it. They do not have signs saying ‘you might get wet’ for that ride.

we have gotten wet a few times from the beginning drop, it was like a small splash. I have had the luck of having a cannonball splash happening right when we are next to it and actually gotten pretty soaked from it. Luckily this only happened once or twice out of probably over 30 times of riding the ride.

You have to be really unlucky to get wet. It's possible if you get caught by a well-timed something that I don't want to spoil, but I'd say it's less than 5 percent of the time.

Edit: I see someone mentioend the cannon blast already. Yeah that's the only time I've ever seen someone get really wet and I think it was just bad luck.

Been on it at least 50 times total between WDW, DLR and DLP. Not a drop of water even in the first row. But I also must add that even though you are visiting in December doesn't mean it is going to be cold. That time of year is usually just comfortable, with a few possible cooler temperatures. They did briefly have some problems with new boats a few years ago but they seemed to have solved that problem, but my feeling is the extent of the problem was greatly exaggerated anyway.

Thanks everyone. Your experiences are very helpful. It was the new boat issue that I remember being a concern a few years ago.

This definitely. We went not long after all the talk started about the different boats. I sat in the front row, right side. After the small drop towards the beginning of the ride a literal wave of water came up and over pretty much just my side.
It was the wettest I have ever gotten on any Disney ride. I’m talking sopping wet, could wring out my clothes, actually dripping water as I got off. Luckily it was hot that day, and I wear flip flops so no squishy shoes.
I’ve rode many since then and never had it happen again.

I've been in Orlando in December when we needed gloves, hats, and warm coats. Always good to check the forecast before heading out.
That depends on where one is visiting from whether heavy winter clothes are needed or not. I used to travel from Vermont and have been there when the locals were wearing warm coats, wool hats and mittens. I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt and was cool but not uncomfortable. That was good because by noon I would have had to find a place for all that extra stuff as it warmed up quite a bit. I only had one day in all my trips that I had to wear a light jacket all day and that was in February. Mostly caused by wind. If it's windy and cool then it is really noticeable.

We got quite wet at the drop once a few years ago when we were seated in the front row. We now request a seat towards the back.

I also agree that the splash from the drop seemed to get worse 5+ years ago. Maybe they changed the boat design?

And as a previous poster noted there is a very random chance that you will get splashed from one of the cannon blasts. I think I have gotten lightly splashed twice in 50+ rides.

Two weeks ago I got slightly wet pants from sides, hit by a couple cannon blasts. Son got slightly wet by blasts. Been on it maybe a dozen times in last year and about 50/50 if hit with water, not soaking wet but def visible water on clothes.

It is random and seems to depend on timing and weight of boat.

Out of quite a few rides in recent years, I've gotten wet probably more often than not. Sometimes it's just a little wet, but occasionally it's much more than that.

like once in awhile a little bitty splash on the lap. . .

usually nothing to write home about.

Maybe you'll get hit with a splotch of water or two as you pass Barbossa attacking the fort. That's it.

I've gotten wet a few times during the drop but usually thats only a few drops of water. Only once (in maybe 100 times riding it) did a 'cannonball' go off right beside me and my hair was dripping wet. But that's rare and just poor timing.

Look at the seat and ground of the row you are getting in on the boat. If they are wet, you are probably going to get wet. If they are dry you are good. I am that Mom that saw that one side of our row was pretty wet- and quietly avoided that side so the kid or DH would get it instead-- and they did. I would say 90% of the time, not more than a few drops. That other 10%, I have had some big wet spots on my pants, and I do remember getting soaked once, but that is unusual.

We have been to WDW in early December many times. It might be 90 degrees for a high, or it might be 50 degrees for a high-- and you could get both in the same trip. It is unpredictable and the weather reports can be wrong- pack for anything.

In general, you might get wet if you are in the front row, but not always. We have gotten wet in the front and stayed dry in the front.
Rows 2-4, might get some side spray, but never more than that. Don't ever recall getting wet in rows 5 and 6.
