I was so upset to hear this news when I woke up. I've been concerned about gun violence since I was in high school. I'm 52 now and it's just getting worse. 2 people were shot last night near my son's high school. I just don't know what I can do about it but I want to do something in the last half of my life. I vote, contribute money to causes I support, but it just doesn't feel like enough.

I'm just a few years older than you....and what we're doing....is not enough. We need a weapons ban....it's the only solution to the endless violence. But it will never happen, and so it will just get worse. I've come to accept it.

I live near a large city, Philadelphia, that is plagued with gun violence. My sister still lives there, as do two of her kids. I'm constantly worried for them. I didn't go the German Christmas market in Philly this year because I was afraid it would be shot up by somebody.

This latest mass shooting barely registered on my radar, I've become *that* numb to it. I woke up, read the news, and then went on with my day as if more lives haven't been lost to something that can be prevented with good legislation. There comes a point when a thing must transcend politics, and we passed that point after Sandy Hook when children were massacred and nothing changed. Arm teachers, bulletproof backpacks, lock and chain the doors-but God forbid don't make it harder to get guns. I know I'll get flack for this post, and maybe points as well. I don't care. I'm done.

I woke up to the news and was like, whuh? Then a few hours later, the news was reporting a standoff with SWAT

I opted to not say anything but one of my friends on FB posted about it and one of her friends commented (because it was discussed as hate crime at least leaving that option out there) "I’m sure it was a hate crime. This country treats Asian people awful" I'm not sure they realized the suspect was described as Asian. Not that it doesn't make their statement true but rather it changes the context of the conversation.

Also initially it was listed as 30-50 years old. The picture at least released looked to me as someone older at the very least not anywhere near 30 but who knows.

I live near philly too, used to live in the NE but moved out about 8 yrs ago. We would go into CC all the time, museums, festivals, just for dinner and to wander around. We really have lessened our trips, but we went to the Christmas Village this Christmas and I was wondering should we drive (and risk carjacking) or take the regional rail, which is better than the sub or el, but the stations are still sketch. Then when we were watching the parade I was up by the barrier with my younger daughter and her friends. My oldest daughter was up around the city hall building and I was just so uneasy thinking anyone could open fire right now. I hate that I think like that but its happening more and more.

As for this situation, this is the first I heard about it and im on social media pretty frequently throughout the day. Its like these things are turning into just another day, non news event and that is not ok. More prayers and positive thoughts, i dont know what else to do.

My social media is showing all football hype. Barely anything about this tragedy.
