RoFR back??

If I understand the last point correctly, if they make the blue card a focal point and presented as a guaranteed benefit, there could be repercussions?
Disney could, if they are not careful run into a situation where they are obligated to provided blue cards benefit ....

For instance, if the blue card had come with the promise of an annual pass (and it does not) Disney would not have been able to suspend them ..... etc

We bought in at 100, *just* missed the 75 mark. In hindsight, it was better to have the 100 as, addonitis, but I still think 100 is plenty as a buy-in. I am seeing great OKW resales, but I don't need 260-350 points. I believe that was the required range for a buy-in back in the day, but we don't even consider that large of a contract. Those OG owners are kind of stuck when trying to sell those large point contracts.

And, they did lower the buy in to 100 for being a direct owner, just not for benefits…also, benefits can’t be guaranteed so honestly, so they have to be very careful in the way they use it as a selling point….

Yeah, minimum buy in (not necessarily blue card/membership extra qualification levels) have been all over the place—230, 100, 25, 75, 125, 150, 160, etc.

I think the Minimum for a blue card is fairly new.... I never hear of it for my original purchase .... that was 200 points in 2006

and Honestly 75 or 100 is actually pretty low, it devalues the card.

Why not tie blue card status to money spent direct? What I mean by that, is why does someone gets a blue card for 150 points at VGF at 161 a point.

However, I am crazy in love with BLT and I pay $275 per point for 100. We both spent a similar amount but get different benefits. I don’t know, I just feel like there is a better solution to how the blue card is being distributed. Thoughts? Ideas?

Create different Blue Cards:
Cyan Blue Card - 50 Points
Sky Blue Card - 100 Points
Cornflower Blue Card - 150 Points
Royal Blue Card - 200 Points
Navy Blue Card - 250 Points
Midnight Blue Card - 300 Points

You could also offer different levels of perks. Instead of just DVC No or DVC Yes, you could have an in between... DVC Maybe.

So what would be the difference between these cards....
Sounds like you would just make things harder on the CM and they would either stop checking or would give you the wrong discount

They lowered it for several years to get new resale owners to purchase direct points because of the 2016 rule change.
I'm aware, that is the same point my wife purchased her 75 point contract....
And what happened is resale owners bought the minimum number required to get the blue card benefits....
Then never bought Direct points again

According to the DVC News,

April 2016 - DVC rule change, members must own 25 points to have membership extras
Feb 2018 - Blue card point change to 75 points
Sept 2019 - Blue card point change to 100 points
Oct 2020 - Blue card point change to 125 points
June 2021 - Blue card point change to 150 points

It begin in 2016…started at 25 and changed a few times until it went to 150 in 2021
That's what I thought.... Thanks
and I don't know what the price direct was in 2016 was but at todays 161 a point 25 points would mean you could buy a blue card for $4025.....

That seems really way to low for the blue card benefits..... I bet I save about 1250 dollars in dinning with my blue card last year alone...

Correct because they are incidental benefits and can’t be part of the contract. They can’t be funded by dues either. The FL timeshare law specifically explains it all.

Many of what we get are agreements with third parties which is why DVD can’t guarantee them. For example, the Sorcerer Pass is offered by DPEP, not DVD. If they decide to eliminate it for DVC owners, DVD can’t do a thing about it.

It’s why they can make the program available to different owners. And it’s why the contract you sign with DVD has the specific statement that you should not buy expecting the benefits.

I got it at 100 in 2009, was there a time when it was 125?

I was specifically relating to being eligible for membership extras. Prior to 2016, all purchases, including resale, were eligible.

I am surpsied you were allowed to get a direct contract in 2009 at 100…I bought that year and the minimum was 160 points for a new buyer. It’s why I bought a small resale first so I could get in to BLT for less than 160.

They would not sell to me for less until I was a member.

If you have different levels, make it a QR code that would do the work for the CM. It’s 2023, I wouldn’t be revolutionary by any means

Disney hasn't made a right business decision in 4 years, someone probably clicked the buyback button by accident.

In reality they can't buy enough resale contracts to raise the price to force people to buy direct based on the economy currently. The market is flooded with contracts for sale. If they buy them back it means they're eating a check every year for annual dues with no one on the other end to pick up the tab for whoever knows how long until the economy goes the other way/their image improves. And we know they aren't selling enough direct or they wouldn't be offering GFV with a $50pp discount essentially. They're gonna have to live in a spot cherry picking contracts and collecting dues every year, that's the only smart play.

I don’t think that is the point. I think they want it tied to a minimum number of direct points and why they have raised it to 150 and why they didn’t lower it when they lowered the purchase minimum.

IMO, I don’t think lowering it would help to the degree some believe. I think what they did by bringing back the MB program and lowering price did it. VGF just sold over 120k in July with newest incentives…and it got people to buy the 150 because that was the number that offered the best price and of course, made them eligible for the membership extras.

Lots of posts here of owners who bought direct because of it.
