It’s baking season and also a time that many of us make yummy casseroles. In order to do this, you have to use your oven. So, todays question…..

When taking something out of the oven do you use oven mitts or pot holders?
Are they cloth or silicone?
Or, are do you use neither and use something else?
(multiple choice)

For Me…..I only use cloth pot holders. I’ve tried using pot holders and I do not like them - at all :sad2:. i cant grab hold of anything with oven mitts, so I have none in the house. My DH uses a dish towel - it‘s the only thing he’ll use.

I currently have oven mitts. They are cloth with silicone on the hand area. I agree with you though, it's hard to handle anything wearing oven mitts.

I used to have pot holders, and although they LOOKED fine, I started getting burned pretty often. (They had been a wedding gift and 20+ years old by then... so maybe potholders wear out?) Anyway, I think I over-reacted and was like "I will buy whatever is going to protect my hands the most!" so I ended up with these silicone oven mitts. They work well for keeping me unburned... but they're a big pain in the rear.

My favorite is an oven mitt with fingers. It works great and has the flexibility to lift off a lid, or move a picture of foil. I also use potholders a lot. I do have an old oven mitt that I only use for items on top of the stove, like a tea pot or a lid, but not for the oven. The heat travels through the seams of the oven mitt. I ordered a couple of thick oven mitts from Amazon but I never use them because they are too thick. I can't bend my hand around a baking dish when wearing them.

There are both cloth potholders and cloth oven mitts, but I ONLY use the pot holders. I can't really use the mitts, but DH and everyone else uses the mitts more. I never really knew about silicone anything. I still have a very few potholders I made as a kid.

My oven mitts were all cloth until my dog ate them so the next ones we got were mitts with the silicone part. We like them.

I have/use both but I prefer gloves. I have a Ove Glove and a knock off Ove Glove and I prefer the knock off ove glove but can not for the life of me recall where I got it!! Walgreens? Boscovs??? Target???

Never paid attention. We have both cloth oven mitts and pot holders. I guess we use whatever is at the top of the drawer.
We have one silicone pot holders, not sure we have ever used it. Probably because I always use two mitts or pot holders.

We have both of the types you show above. I use whatever's most convenient at the time, but I'm also not opposed to just grabbing a towel and using it too.

Agree, @slo. I only like the square cloth pot holders. DH likes the oven mitts, so we do have a set. I don't like them at all and wind up getting burned more with them.

I "had" both potholders and oven mitts, but the potholders wound up in my older one's laundry and they haven't been seen since. They were rectangular and had little pockets on the back, so they could be used like traditional potholders, but had an oven mitt feel if you wanted to use the pockets. The mitts have ridged silocone palms. So, those are also a bit of a hybrid model.
