Walt Disney World SWAN, DOLPHIN & SWAN RESERVE RESORTS Information & Questions

Well, I've successfully (or unsuccessfully?) manually merged my SPG and Marriott accounts. I'm now Platinum elite, but none of my trips are showing up. No need to panic yet, when I type in the confirmation numbers they are still there, so I'm going to reach out to the Swan today to make sure that my account reflects my new status and my two reservations are linked (one cash, one points). I'll be headed there this weekend and will report back.

How did you manage? I still see the "Coming Soon" option when I login to the merge my accounts page. As of today I am missing my most recent upcoming stay at a Sheraton, but show a future booking at a Marriott.

I had to log out of the Marriott account, log back in--our points weren't showing on the initial log-in. After the points were visible, I used the link on the main page to merge the SPG account and it went through without issue. When I tried to merge from the FAQ page, it wouldn't complete the process. :confused3

The Points Guy has reported that they are rolling out the "combine accounts" in batches today so you should see it today at some point. Try logging out and logging back in. You will not see reservations from both sides of the house (marriott/starwood) until you manually merge. That said, I'm not seeing any reservations (mine were all SPG). They were there in the step 3 of the merge process, then gone. But my confirmation numbers still work so not too worried yet. It's buggy for sure.

Thanks, logged out and cleared cookies, still no love. I'm not worried at this time. I'll check later tonight. I did notice that I can not login with my SPG credentials, only my Marriott account.

That's what happened with mine. I actually haven't been able to see my Dolphin reservation next month in my SPG account since I updated my name on acct and reservation to my married name. But I could see it this weekend when logging into SPG, but I just merged my accounts and it's gone again. I can look it up by confirmation number still.

Maybe I am missing something, but why not take the bus from the Dolphin to the MK?

Also, you may want to double check on the bus service. I always stay at the Dolphin and last week I read that the buses were moved over to the Swan hotel for some reason that escapes me currently. You would need to catch each bus over at the Swan and I assume get off there, too. They also do not do buses to the parks there is a boat for. I wondered how they get around that with people who get seasick on boats? I don't know exactly how that works, but I know we always have people walking past that go into panic mode saying they can't ride a boat even for that 10 minutes because they get motion sickness on boats so I have wondered how they get past that with elderly/disabled who can't walk that far but don't have a motorized cart?

Though I can't view any history, reservations, nor SPG account balance, I can search for rates/availability. Checking for a Traditional room at the Swan, for the end of August, it's shocking to see a nightly rate of 50,000 points. The cash price starts in the low 200s and goes up from there.

Converting back to the old SPG system, that's the equivalent of about 16,667 Starwood points. I wonder what the upcharge will be for peak season, when the Swan used to book for 16,000 points, instead of the standard 12,000.

Between the devaluation of Starwood points and moving the Swan and Dolphin up to Cat 6, that's really a double-whammy!

I also combined our Marriott and Starwood accounts this morning (and chose to keep the Marriott account numbers) - after reading The Points Guy's latest post: https://thepointsguy.com/news/marriott-integration-update-day-3/ I am Gold Elite (correct), but my account shows me at Lifetime Silver Elite status (should be Lifetime Gold), with 312 nights and 7 years Gold Elite. SPG's Lifetime Gold required only 250 nights compared to 400 nights now - but I'm sure I'll get my Lifetime Gold back soon. I got all excited when I initially saw that I was Platinum Elite on the Marriott app - until it was corrected last night! The new Gold status is a downgrade from Marriott's previous Gold benefits: no lounge access, suite upgrade, or amenity other than points.

I didn't feel that $5 voucher or 500 points was much incentive before, and if point values jump and no adjustment it's even less of an incentive. We skipped it in January and probably would again, when I'm on vacation I like having the room cleaned and fresh towels. If they want me to give up services they need to do something to reduce my out of pocket expense enough that I see the value.
I usually visit WDW solo, so I didn't mind not having housekeeping. I also liked the points. However, when I traveled with my family and stayed at the Swan, I wanted daily housekeeping.

Does the Dolphin have the same comfortable mattresses as the Swan? I’ve stayed at the Swan many times & love a comfy bed after a day in the parks. I’m looking at the Dolphin this time because it’s considerably cheaper the week I’m coming in December with friend for her first trip to WDW.

I'm sorry if this has been covered before but I searched and didn't see it - do the Minnie Vans run to Swan & Dolphin also? (We used them on our last trip, stayed on Disney property- and they were great, would like to use again if possible)

We used to go to the Swan a lot until the last few years and now with the merging, I am not sure the value is still there. We are planning a trip to WDW in Aug 2019 and when you factor in the Swan resort fee, the price difference is not a lot compared to the Wilderness Lodge which is our other preferred resort.

Yup!

Anyone have pics of the Swan lobby construction? Arriving this weekend, curious to see what we’ll be walking into. Thanks!

It was just announced so I don't think much has started yet. With that it will be done in phases to not hurt the guest experience too much.
