For those who have made AKV reservations, were you also warned about possible construction noise during your visit?

yes, I was told that during the day there would be construction. I told him I will be in the parks anyway so no worries.

I heard it too. Our September and December trips may be marred by some construction noise. I think I'll just be happy to be at the AKV, if the September trip is unbearable, then maybe I will try to change the December date.

Yes. Took it with a grain of salt. We are doing a Friday and a Saturday so hopfully there won't be too much going in.

The noise disclaimer was only given to members who are reserved in unit numbers still be under construction. I don't mind some noise but when they told me that construction workers would still be building my room during the day I had to draw the line. :rotfl2:

Same here. We don't stay at the villas during the day. We're always in the parks.

I'm more worried that all the construction will be a problem for the animals so that we'll see fewer of them around than usual.

Read on the disability board, that someone mention the noise at AKL and said it was bad(don't know if was work on the conversion units or site prep for the new building). Also was mentioned that some UK travel agents are telling people to avoid both AKL and Contem. due to construction.

I think they put the disclaimer in so that anyone visiting during construction doesn't come back and demand a free something or other to be compensated for construction noise. I hope its only during the day.

:) We were also told about the construction, but since it will only be during daylight hours (when we are in the parks anyway) I don't anticipate it being a problem.

Besides the animals (both human and non-human) have to sleep sometime. A good jackhammer rumble tends to lull me to sleep anyway

Well my disclaimer was that they would be working on the new building which would create noise, but I am in the old building. I think I will not worry about this.

Are your dates close to May of '08? If so, maybe they expect the villas in Jambo to be completed sooner.:confused3

We expect to be at AKV during the last week of Jan. '08, so maybe most of the retrofitting will be just about done, with only the Kidani area under construction. :thumbsup2

I'm really looking forward to the "juicy details" coming in once we have some of our intrepid Disboard on-site reporters in place. :lmao:

Well, if SSR building is any indications, I think you folks will be ok.

Maybe they will issue you a souvenir hard hat with a DVC logo on it as compensation. I'll bet they would go for big bucks on ebay!

She made a BIG point about the construction noise and only being during the daytime. It's not going to be an issue for me. I'm an early riser, and I'll be out before they start!

Most travel agents will tell clients about any construction and recomend avoiding the hotels. I'd be p......off if I showed up to unexpected construction after shelling out thousands for a vacation. In this case all DVC'rs know about it and should expect some noise, if it's anything like SSR construction, it should not be to bad..Of course some folks have lower noise tolerance levels than others so if anyone thinks it will bother them they should hold off on AKL for another year. Leaves more rooms for me to pick from.:cool1:

We got the warning, but I wasn't surprised. I guess I assumed it was for the new bulding. I sure hope they aren't working on the unit next door to us. Now I also made a cash reservation for an AKL room for the night before we check into AKV and they didn't mention noise for that room.

Got the Noise warning for the Nov ressie, not the Oct one.

Does anyone know when they are breaking ground for the the new building?
