Hello All! After scouring planning journals for months, I have decided that I am at a point in my wedding planning that I need to start one myself. This will (hopefully) help me organize my thoughts and get some feedback and advice. I am fairly new to the boards and this is my very first thread. Thanks for reading along!

First Things First!

My name is Ashley and I am a 28 year old cosmetologist from the Philadelphia area. My fiancé is Andrew, he is also 28 and is a subcontractor. We met 6 years ago in our hometown in upstate New York. We were both 22. After a year or so of dating we decided to take our relationship and life more seriously. We both secured jobs and moved together to Philadelphia. It has been quite the struggle! We both come from small families that although are extremely supportive of us, could not help us financially to get our lives together. Over the past five years we have grown together, in every sense of the word.
When we first came here, we couldn't afford internet or cable. So we would pour over used dvds at FYE stores for some entertainment after we were home from work. Lots of older Disney movies were purchased, and thus Disney became our favorite "one day we will" conversation. Neither of us had ever been to Disney World. Fast forward- our life came together. Hard work paid off, and we had everything we always talked about. A house, a beautiful 7 year old beagle named Louie, and a relationship that was dedicated to making our dreams come true. We took our first trip to Disney in 2013. We were hooked after a week. We took our second trip the very next year, this time bringing along members from both sides of our family. It was a beautiful trip! Andrew proposed to me that trip, sealing my happily ever after at my favorite place on earth!

Engagement:

After we were home, we began discussing our wedding options. Two things were certain: we would be paying for our wedding on our own, and we wanted it a small intimate affair. Our first discussion was a wedding in Disney. We looked through our options and quickly realized this was out of reach. We couldn't hope to afford anything more then the memory package. We wanted something small, but were thinking somewhere along the lines of 15 people. We wanted our siblings, nieces and nephews to be with us. Reluctantly, I began investigating venues at home. I was constantly being told that I had to have minimums of guests, my small affair was slipping through my fingers. All the while I kept checking around the internet looking at Disney weddings. I came across one PJ in particular on Dis boards. I cannot remember the bride's handle but her Swan wedding was everything that I wanted. I believe her name is Theresa. I loved her DIY décor, her budget was reasonable and I was inspired. (If she ever sees this thank you for such a dedicated PJ). I researched the Swan and was put in contact with the folks at JUSTMARRY. I was assigned Rebecca as my coordinator. She made our decision so easy- Last May we booked the Crescent Terrace site at The Swan for December 1st 2015.

Coming Up~ Where I'm at planning!!

Cheers! Ashley

Awww welcome!!! And congrats on your engagement!! I'm a few hours from Philly. My BIL actually grew up there.
Following along!

Ahh, a transplant Philly couple. We're a homegrown Philly family. Congrats on your engagement. Happy to see you are getting married where you want. After staying at the Yacht Club, I also had a look around the Swan and found the Swan a beautiful hotel. Very pretty grounds.

Ready to hear more about what colors and style you are interested in. Following too.

DF and I have sent out our save the dates, to 25 people mostly made up of immediate family. Here they are.

We are expecting maybe 15-20 of our closest family. We have decided that we do not want a wedding party and will only have our niece and nephew as flower girl and ring bear. I would like to minimally decorate the site with DIY décor, (more on that in later post.) The site is beautiful on its own. Here's a list of secured and prospective vendors.

Photography: I spoke with many photographers. One that stood out, both in her body of work and communication was Ginger Midgett. She has shot before on my site, and seemed to be excited about sharing my day with me. I'm printing and sending the contract out today.
After discussing options, we decided that we would be most interested in a two hour photo session. My reception is a sit down private dinner, so pictures of that are not so important to me. DF says he'd rather see me first down the aisle, so no first looks. I'd rather have shots of our ceremony followed by family shots and maybe some in either another hotel or Downtown area.

Floral: I have mailed contract and deposit for my flowers for Greenery Productions. DF and I, so far are only purchasing a bouquet and matching boutonnière. My flower girl will be holding something similar to this, a DIY project we will try later on. Except in lavender and white.

Greenery have been amazing to communicate with. I sent them my inspiration bouquet, they were extremely detailed on what it entailed and had a fair price quote. Here's my inspiration bouquet.

Music: We have decided to have a solo violinist play. The songs we are choosing from are-
Officiate and groom entrance
(Our parents will also be escorted and seated for this)
Here comes the sun, Beatles
Bridal entrance
Beauty and The Beast
Exit: ?
We have been communicating with Jenni Rudberg. I will print out contract and send deposit this week. Not sure how many songs we'll need to play since it's a small processional. Ideas? Should I have a prelude for such a small amount of people to be seated?

Officiate: I have spoken with two, Kirk Bane and Sensational Ceremonies. I need to follow up here and make a decision.

We were thinking about treating everyone to bowling and dinner the evening before the wedding, at Splitsville. I've spoken with them, and we could easily reserve lanes for our party.

I have also been looking into Fultons for a sit down private dinner. Will try to finalize menu and put down deposit in July. Since this is a small affair, I think I will ex on a DJ and opt for more subtle entertainment. Ideas? Caricature artist maybe?

Speaking of small affair here are some things I'm pretty sure I will do without also- cake (frankly neither of us like cake), room block, rehearsal dinner.

I have also already purchased a dress back in march during a bridal show in my area. Since I am a control freak AND a hairdresser I will be doing my own hair and makeup. I'm thinking of wearing it down and wavy. Still deciding if I would like a veil or not. Here I am in the dress. Please excuse my bra, the top is a little big!

I still have tons to do!!!! Thanks for following along! Next up my site décor, DIY, welcome bags, and themes!

Cheers- Ashley

Joining in! Your dress is beautiful! I also love the Save the Dates - they are so creative!

Cute Save the Dates, beautiful dress! Love the idea of bowling with everyone.
Caricature artist is a great idea, I still have mine from my girlfriend's disney wedding many years ago. It's a great momento from her wedding.
Love the lavendar bouquet. Purple is my favorite color. It's going to look so pretty.

I'm being a stickler on the no first look too. I don't want Kevin to see me until I get to the aisle. I'm kinda old fashioned like that. Yea I know, kinda silly since we're already married, but I want all those wedding
things that we never got to have.

If the musician(s) are any good, they will know how to blend in your songs at the right moments, so you don't have to play each song at it's full length. My gosh that will take a long time if they do that.
I'm kinda stuck on my music too, but I have almost a year to think about it. LOL

Hi there! I'm following along. Your dress is beautiful and save the dates are super cute.

I'm so happy I found your planning journal so I can follow along with you too! I love your inspiration bouquet and your dress! I'm also trying to decide on a veil. I look forward to reading more (and seeing photos since your day is a month before mine! :hyper:)

Thank you so much! It was love at first sight with this dress! My future SIL made my save the dates. They were fun!

Thanks I like the lavender against the plum of from the actual wedding colors. I have spoken with greenery productions and they are very reasonable with my quote from my inspiration photos.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the caricature artist. I really like the idea, I will have to ask Rebecca my coordinator to see if she can help me with a contact.

Agreed. I love the way first look pictures look, but I must admit I was not terribly disappointed when DF said he didn't want them.

Glad you could join in! I'm leaning toward veil. Going to try some on with my mother next week. I like the idea of a super long one, but we all know you think one thing until you actually see yourself! I'll keep you updated! Just my 2 cents, I think a veil would completely compliment your dress!

Décor, DIY, Welcome bags.

My mother offered to do my welcome bags. Which is a great burden off my shoulders for something else to deal with. Helped her make up a pinterest account so that I could shoot her pictures of what I would like in them easily! She tells me she has collected most of these things so far. So way ahead of schedule on this one.
I would like in them--
Bottled water (personalized labels)
A box of Hershey kisses and other chocolate candies (I already have dessert boxes that say "sweet dreams")
Disney Park Maps (Can I order these before my trip?)
We will make DIY xmas ornaments

Chapstick
Small soda cans
Mini Vodka bottles (I'm getting labels that say "HakunaMaVodka" on one side and" It means get drunk" on the other)
Contact Cards that will include Mears taxi service, Bride groom contact, and some entertainment information
Welcome Letter

Ceremony Site:

Like I've mentioned before, I would like to keep décor of the site minimal. I'm thinking of draping the chairs along the aisle with this DIY project.

The pinecones will compliment the season I believe. The ribbon will be done in gold.

I was also thinking about doing bunting in plum on the chairs...Let me know what you guys think! Too crowded?

I would also like to have a small aisle runner for the platform itself. I have not investigated this much, but I do have the dimensions I would need from my coordinator. I'm thinking of having "Happily Ever After" written on it in plum.

Also I will have two tables set up off of the platforms with my guest book, which will be something similar to this. Anyone know where I can get it made up?

On another table I will have a basket of lavender bags for the send off and a cute frame that says this. (Andrew loves star wars!)

Hopefully my next post will be confirmation from the majority of my vendors! Cheers! -Ashley

Loving your PJ so far! I love the wrapping on your dress, it's so pretty and unique, and your decor ideas are so classic and beautiful. Hope you get your vendor confirmations asap!

Your dress is beautiful! My first choice was a December wedding, but being a teacher, it just wasn't possible for me! Can't wait to follow along!

"HakunaMaVodka" is hilarious! :rotfl:

The thumb print guest book definitely looks like something from Etsy. I would look on there.

Would you mind sharing the aisle runner dimensions? I'm planning to get one too and wasn't sure of the size.

Thanks! I love the uniqueness of this dress! It absolutely nothing like I thought I would pick!

Thanks! December is actually not a great time for us either, being directly after thanksgiving and before the Christmas rush of salons- my boss almost had a heart attack. I've just always wanted to see the xmas decorations so I just went for it!

I stole the vodka bottle idea from a Disney themed wedding on Pinterest! As for the aisle runner, it depends on if you want it on or off the platform. Heres a attached model of area.

Hi guys! I've been a busy bride! We've had some ups and downs in the wedding planning spectrum! I decided to write in here to organize my thoughts on everything.

Huge bump in the road. Fulton's had always been my choice for a sit down meal after our ceremony. I have been speaking with them for months. Once the contract was just about to be signed about three days ago, I get a email from them asking me to push my 3pm meal to 4:30. I didn't really get a explanation as to why, and it was from a different person that I had been coordinating with. I had been turned off to Fulton's for a couple of different reasons, and this kinda broke any magic associated with the location. I didn't even bother to respond. I just immediately called my Just Marry coordinator and asked for any other places she could think of. Shula's was my first call the coordinator Samantha was extremely helpful!! Unfortunately, I couldn't use them because they do not open until 5 but she gave me a lot of helpful information for other restaurants. Il Mulinos is out of price range, I am waiting to hear back from Fresh Mediterranean market- I'm fairly certain they close at 2pm so this also will not work. Apparently my 1pm ceremony time is hard to coordinate around. :confused3 My eye is now set on Garden Grove. I have left a message am just waiting to hear back from them. Any thoughts about Garden Grove? Anyone know how the process of reserving a meal here? I'm a little deterred that I may not have a private room- but I've heard wonderful things about the restaurant. Any other ideas at all would be appreciated girls! I'm four months out and kinda pressed here, but I know it will all work out.

Good News- I found my wedding shoes!

So excited because these match my plum and gold color scheme! They are pretty darn high so here's hoping I don't face plant in front of everybody! :joker:

I've booked my officiant, I will be using Sensational Ceremonies- Rev Glynn. DF and I need to go over our ceremony planning packet and choose what kind of ceremony we would like.

I also finished my invitations. My future SIL had a lot of trouble making them. She's a angel. They are designed to be like a Disney map. Here they unfolded, front and back. Forgive the picture, my phone takes horrid one. Also depending how the next couple of days go, I may have to change the reception place! Was hoping to get these ordered and sent out within the next week or so, hopefully I can just wrap up plans and get back on schedule.

More good news DF and I are finalizing plans and booking the honey moon today. I am thinking 9 days. The first two at The Swan followed by 7 days at Port Orleans. I will update you all on when it's all done. DF birthday is December 4th, a few days after the wedding and I am definitely going to purchase tickets to MVMCP for him. Always wanted to see Disney during the holidays, It's the main reason we chose December. :Pinkbounc

I've also decided that I am definitely going to wear a veil. My client is making it for me. It will be cathedral with lace beginning at fingertip length. Also, I wanted to wear pearls and Andrew just happened to buy his mother a beautiful necklace some years ago. I've asked her if I could use them and she was thrilled. Andrew also has a appointment with a local tailor to begin choosing his suit August 9th. We purchased some cuff links already!

I have the next couple of days off and much to plan!!

Here is my immediate TO DOS
To Do
- Bridal Undergarments
- Check with mom on welcome bags progress
- HOPEFULLY FIGURE OUT RECEPTION SITUATION
- Order Invitations and get them out
- Plan Tickets
- Contact Carolyn Allen
- DisneyMoon vacation planning :cool1:
- Choose Ceremony

Once this is all done, I simply must get on to my DIY decor! Get ready for pictures!

Cheers! ~Ashley

Eeep. I hope you make a decision on your reception soon :( I think Trattoria on the Boardwalk has a private area, though I don't know how many people it seats.

I love those shoes though, and those cuff links are adorable! I can't believe December is only 4 months away - where is time going!?

Hi everyone! So progress has been made! Let's start off with my reception. Much to my relief, we have booked with Fresh Mediterranean Market. I have been corresponding with a gentleman there named Michael. I have not seen anyone else talk about this location, so let me tell you they have been great to work with! It's a small restaurant in the Swan so I'm excited that I will be on location! They close I believe at 2:00 usually, but Michael has said that they will stay open for my luncheon. Although the restaurant will be closed, we will still dine in the semi private veranda room so that I can decorate a little more. Wine and champagne options were chosen from the Bluezoo restaurant. They also have cake setups available. The best part about this place, has to be that my guest list has shrunk, but the minimum of location is a fantastic $600, so I'm not stressing about any wasted money! Also, saving so much has opened more options for me to spend other places- helllllllo dessert party and character appearances! Here is my menu!

Champagne toast is available and priced for house champagne by the bottle. Wine is served per glass from my previously selected bottles. I am beyond happy with how this turned out!:cheer2: I am also doing a Fantasmic dessert party! Oh BOY! party:

I've began getting RSVP returns. Many of my guests have never been on a Disney vacation, so I feel like I am constantly updating my wedding page with dining reservation information, fast pass + guidelines, and Disney magical express information. I appreciate everyone traveling for my wedding and want to make sure that their vacation is fabulous. I'm running myself ragged on the phone with all of my guests travel information, and so I think now I have to step back and try to enjoy my own planning. Everything is booked including airfare, dining reservations, and MVMCP for DF's birthday. For DF wedding present I also booked the animal kingdom Wild Africa Trek tour. We both have always talked about trying it! :thumbsup2 We really are just waiting for the date when we can book our fast pass+, and our honeymoon is all set.

I have begun my DIY projects which is actually a fun and calming distraction. Here is what my flower girl will be carrying. I still have to find a way to attach either a handle or ribbon secure enough that if she swings it around it won't fall apart! :confused3

My mom has done a rough draft of my welcome bag ornaments. They are coming along!

All in all, lots of good stuff going on. My to-do list is growing shorter. I have contacted Carolyn Allen's to ship my dress to and deliver day of. They will also be mailing it back out the day after my wedding for preservation. Just this morning I requested all of my marriage license need to know information from Rebecca, my coordinator- so I can get the ball rolling on that. Go me! :woohoo: I really just have to get a final count for who would like makeup and hair. I want to contact beaute speciale- I will still be doing my own hair, but want to make sure I book proper time if any of my guests are interested. My mom has confirmed Andrew's mom and sister are on the fence.

A little hiccup in planning is I found out that POP Warner week will be at the tail end of many of my guest's stay. I have never been there for the event and have heard mixed reviews. Many of my guests are staying at the Value resorts I know they usually book. Anyone have any experience for navigating the hotel or park during their stay? I'd like to update my wedding website with hints!

Immediate To Do:
Marriage License
Find DF wedding shoes. (He's being incredibly picky!)
Brainstorm mother, father, maid of honer and best man presents
Book hair and makeup
Buy under garments.
Start fittings, (whens a good time to start? anyone know how many fittings usually? My dress is 1 size too big and i do not plan on losing or gaining weight.)

Hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of fall! Cheers! Ashley
