"cruise special"

We had always heard that the "best deals" for buying DVC were on cruises (especially the member cruise). We just returned form a DCL Alaska cruise and the deal offered for Aulani and AKL was the usual 20th Anniversary deal (20pts free for each 100 purchased) sweetened with onboard credit starting at $200 for the minimal 100pt purchase. Not much better than the deal we all received in the mail but they claim that this deal is the best they've ever offered and when it's done, it's done.
Just an FYI for those of you wondering.

We just got off the Fantasy and our deal was $500 ship credit. 160 in the bank to be used or banked by September 30, 2013. We'll get another 160 on Feb. 1, 2013. 50 extra points to be used at SSR or any other non Disney resort. Plus they paid for 10 of our points and we get 18 ultimate FP on our next trip to Disney.

The fact of getting current points without paying all of the dues for the year is usual and not part of any special deal. You could buy the last week of the Use Year and still get those points though that might be cutting it close from the cruise.

One thing to consider is that on board credits, gift cards and the like can easily be outdone by the savings one can get by buying resale. This is the only part of the deal that can't be duplicated or beat. Keep in mind, though, that is coming from someone who loves Fastpasses. :)

Actually, the best deal is probably a resale and not direct.

When we bought in 1997, we were staying at the Polynesian. We got a portion of our stay at the Polynesian applied to our deposit. Plus we sold back our first year's points. So it brought the price down to about $50 a point, which is what members were paying pre-opening at OKW. You are never going to get anything like that again direct from Disney.
