Cruising the Dream on our 1st cruise ever!!! (5 Night Double Dip)

Pam,
We are cruising Oct 21, 2012 on 4day cruise....sans children.:rolleyes1
I have not told them that DH and I are going and they won't be:guilty: but the consolation prize is that my mom is going to stay with them while he and I are "testing the waters" :lmao: sorry bad joke

We have never cruised before so I am taking notes from your TR ;), so keep the good stuff coming!!:surfweb:

Looks like I am joining in pretty early on for once! Your report is great so far, I love pictures like many others here, so I don't think that you could bore us even if you do post all 1700 pictures lol I love that you took this trip with your mom, I was just talking to my mom about the two of us taking a trip together - how strange that I should read your report the very same day. It must be an omen that I need to book another trip. I look forward to reading more about your trip!

You've hooked me! DH and I are thinking of a cruise on the Dream in 2013 for our 20th anniversary. I can't wait to read the rest of the report!

Looking forward to the AKV part too, as we're staying there as a family for the first time in August.

You guys should absolutely do it. It was AMAZING!!! Lots more to come, hopefully you'll be convinced by the time this is over. Are you thinking of going with or without kids? AKV is one of my Home resorts, we love it there so much. Congratulations on your trip!

That will be fantastic. This way you'll be able to investigate in a calm and peaceful manner without having to keep the kids happy all the time. Do you have to tell them where you're going.... What they don't know can't hurt them :rolleyes1

I will make sure to include all the tips and pointers I've learned, it made the trip so smooth.

Anniversary trip would be without the kids - I actually have the cruise picked out already, and my mom booked to babysit. Just have to pull the trigger and make the reservation! I imagine your trip report will put me over the edge :goodvibes

David and I have talked about the Disney Cruise Line, but were worried about the number of Children, we like to cruise with adults. That is why we choose the times that we do, but seeing everyone's pictures from DCL makes us want to try it!

What did you think about the number of Children on board?

Brandi, My DH had the same reservation about doing DCL without kids, but after showing him the "Adults Only" places and activities, I was able to convince him!:cool1:
We both LOVE the idea of "Serenity" bay on Castaway Cay. My Travel Agent promised that we would love doing the adults stuff, she has been numerous times with her adult children and or her mother, she said the ONLY thing missing on DCL that is on other cruise lines are the casinos. We do not have to interact with the Disney characters if we dont want to, is what she also told me. So check into the adult activities and see what you think from there!!!
Good Luck!:goodvibes

PS I love your groovin' ducky, but I have to ask....Is the other little guy dancin' bacon or dancin' doody? :confused3 Please dont be offended I asked....I think he cute no matter what he is:lovestruc

Pam....sorry for stealing your TR time!:headache:

I am in. The photos are stunning. It made me smile when you commented about everything at the terminal being about the Fantasy. We had the same kind of thing last year when we went on our Panama Canal cruise. This was supposed to be a big goodbye for the Wonder, but instead, everything was about the Dream.

I m glad that your jaw settled down before you left, but it is a shame that it spoiled your pre-vacation dinner.

What did you think about the number of Children on board?

We have done two long cruises now when we had about 200 children on board. Looks like the Hawaii cruise may have similar numbers. Even with a full contingent of children, Graham can go for days without seeing one. We have late dining and tend to hang out in the adult areas. I see children in the character lines, but other than that, I don't see many either.

ClaraBug,

Thanks for the input... We just watched the Samantha Brown story on the Fantasy and she was showing some of the Adult only places and I had read other places that chlildfree people were doing just fine on the ship.

We never visit the casino on the other cruises we have done (13), so that would not be a loss for us.

He is dancing bacon! and no worries... it is all in fun anyway!

Corinna,

David is the one wanting to go but resisting the kids aspect.

We tend to cruise with a bunch of old people :rotfl:

What did you think about the number of Children on board?

I tried to answer this earlier but with how slow the DIS is going it timed out. I would agree with everyone else here. Even though it was 10 years ago that we took our cruise on the Disney Wonder we really didn't have any problem with kids.

We do the second seating for dinner, the places we hang out are the spa, the adult pool, the lounges, Palo, etc so we don't run into the kids so much. At Castaway Cay we had lunch at the adult beach before we went parasailing and barely saw any kids all day, except maybe when we were snorkeling in the morning.

I have been reading a lot of Mexican Riviera TRs (even familes, not just couples) and from what it sounds like, their kids are dying to go back to the Club and the Lab. Some of the families, one of the parents would take a break during dinner to drop the kids off at the club, and the parents enjoyed the remainder of their dinners child free. Disney does a GREAT job keeping the kids entertained. The places are themed like Andy's Room and they can play in giant toys designed after awesome Disney cartoons, so what kid would want to be sitting in a restaurant or lounge? They have their own pool. The pictures of that pool look like a total zoo, but I've heard that people with kids under 18 are quickly and quietly escorted from the Adult pool if they try to look like they want to stay.

I'm crossing my fingers for the next Disney Cruise. I've been reading the Navigators and it looks like we'll have a great time even without the excursions. There's so much to do, and most of this is all in the "without kids" activities!

Great report so far!

I've cruised Disney 4 times and number 5 in October. I am single with no kids...I love it! Plenty for adults to do.

Thank you :) I'll post all the ones I think are worthy and see how you guys feel. One shouldn't ignore a Disney omen :rolleyes1

I am here... late but here!

You're not late, it's less than 24 hours since starting :)

David and I have talked about the Disney Cruise Line, but were worried about the number of Children, we like to cruise with adults. That is why we choose the times that we do, but seeing everyone's pictures from DCL makes us want to try it!

I totally agree with the other comments. We never felt overwhelmed by the amount of kids. And if you don't want to see any there are places they're not allowed to go where you can escape. The only time we were overwhelmed by the sheer amount of people, was at the Family Beach where we wanted to do some snorkling, but they have the adults only beach, Serenity Bay, which is a slice of Heaven. Even on the sea day we never felt overwhelmed with kids, and this was a sold out sailing with 4000 guests. We also did the late seating where we were paired with adults, who I will later describe in more detail, but they were perfect dining companions.

I think you should absolutely try DCL at least once to see how it compares. I felt like the CMs were even a step above the ones at the parks, they were all so fabulous. I have tons more photos and will share our experiences in length so hopefully I can sway you a little :)

I will do my best :) Do you have a Disney Visa? You can get the 6 months 0% financing and cancel it at any time if you change your mind.

Thank you :) Lots more to come. I have lots of the ship from our parasailing adventure that turned out perfectly.

It can't be too hard to put up those banners. Why not wait until the current ship leaves before putting them up.

That's exactly how we felt. There was no issue at all with all the children. Most of them are in the kids clubs or family pools most of the time.
