DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Hey boys. Some sad news from yesterday.

Coached Maxwell’s U6 soccer game yesterday. He and the team took a pretty bad L after winning handsomely last week. But Davis (U10) played later in the morning and he had a teammate collapse on the bench due to a seizure. Super scary. Especially when it involves a child that is only 8 and 9 years old. She’s now at Lurie’s in Chicago. Say some prayers for A, her family, and her doctors. Thanks! Hope all is well!!

Hope she’s doing ok. That’s the worst part at work, when it comes over the radio and it’s a child.

Distressing for all involved. :(

It was pretty rough. All we know at this time is she is slowly recovering and is beginning to respond. No pre-existing conditions, so let’s just hope the doctors find out what is going on.

My son, Davis, was near her on the bench and described to us her symptoms. Being just eight, he didn’t realize how serious things were.

It was particularly hard on the head coach, as he has been a coach across many sports over the years and actually had one of his past softball players pass away due to an emergency.

The team is rallying around A. Tomorrow, some items are being brought to practice by all or most of her teammates to make up a gift basket for her. Davis and my wife went and picked out an Angel (pink Stitch) stuffed animal and some bracelets for her. Knowing how much Disney’s pixie dust meant to Davis when he had his allergic reaction, I’m hoping this can be a similar version of pixie dusting her so she feels better and her health improves.

I appreciate all of you. Just your well wishes and prayers show the best of humanity. Thank you!!

Wow, that's really scary. Hope she recovers quickly.

Got some more information on A at tonight’s practice. She suffered a seizure due to a stroke on the left side of her brain. She’s still non-verbal, cannot move the right side of her body, and is sleeping around 20 hours a day (which is what her body needs at this point in time). While she has a long road ahead of her, the prognosis is very positive and she’s expected to make a full recovery over the coming months. Being young is actually the fountain of youth, apparently. Which, in this scenario, is well deserved and most hoped for. She also has a brother that is two years younger and is on the team as well. He’s not handling this well (understandably so, as they are very close) and is going to take some time away from the team as well. So continued thoughts and prayers are appreciated. Thanks for all the kind words! And take some time to let your loved ones know you love them. Life is precious and fragile.
