I am at the 60 day mark for my first stay at the Poly (arriving April 5)!! We are staying in a Standard Room, and I am trying to narrow down my room requests. Any suggestions on best longhouse would be greatly appreciated!

Just switched from the BWI to the Poly Villas for our stay Feb 22-25!! Very excited!!

How exciting :yay:! The Poly is amazing, hope you have a great trip!

The time will go fast and you will be checking into the Poly before you know it :goodvibes.

We've only stayed in Samoa and thought it was great! It's very convenient as it's just steps from the pool, GCH, Captain Cooks, and the beach. With that said, I don't think you can go wrong with any longhouse as there really isn't a bad location, IMO ;).

I know it's not an actual booking category, but do all the lake view studios have a view of the castle?

Are these difficult to book at 7 months out? I know the DVC area said standards are pretty open around this time.

Thanks! That's good to know. Seems wrong they don't add buses so there's no transport from the actual hotel.
I agree, this was a huge frustration for us. Granted, the walk to TTC is perhaps 5 minutes from the bus stop, but just seemed like there should have been an option right from the resort. Luckily the Poly has a bus board, so we knew right away there were no Epcot or MK busses coming. I'd have been much more upset had we just waited and waited....

So I put my request in when I did on line check in. I am 38 days out. Should I call disney reservations as well?

There was a post in the DVC Miscellaneous Section about recent burglary incidents, 20 cases at Saratoga Springs Resort, many first floor rooms with unlocked sliders/ valuables stolen like electronic devices, phones, etc. Was in today's Orlando Sentinel. The suspects were apparently apprehended thankfully.::yes:: I remember reading on this thread that guests have requested first floor specifically so they can go "in and out" to patio and lawn areas with ease. I especially recall reading posts with guests with younger children liking these rooms. A good reminder for all of us to properly secure lock on slider doors and secure valuables.::yes::

Yes, good reminder. We are a family that loves staying CL in Hawaii 1st floor. However, either DH or I always sit on the patio while our kids and other adult are on the beach or roasting marshmallows, etc.

Oh boo. I guess they removed them with the expansion?

I can't tell you how disappointed we were about this. Renting a cabana at Poly was one of our favorite parts of our trip! Especially the one down in the beach area. I'm holding out hope that they install cabanas at the new Oasis pool.

We just returned from a week at the Poly (and our first WDW trip) and it was wonderful. We had a Lagoon View room and enjoyed being able to get a glimpse of the castle and watch Wishes from our room. Did not notice any construction although we were on the far side of the resort. We arrived a couple days early (drove down and wanted to get ahead of bad weather) so we added 2 nights at AKL and a day visit to Animal Kingdom. We thought AKL was beautiful in the lobby but the room was underwhelming and food options only so so. The Poly feels like home! I am already planning our next trip and would like to try another resort but I'm afraid nothing will compare (the beautiful grounds, monorail, great restaurants, the smell of GCH, dole whip every night!). If we return this year we will likely only do Magic Kingdom. I imagine the draw to BC, YC and BWI is the walk to Epcot but are the worth looking into if we plan to only do MK (maybe one day Epcot, maybe)? We walked through GF and it was also beautiful but I just felt more relaxed at the Poly (especially with 2 young kids ages 1 and 4). Didn't get the chance to check out CR other than riding through on the monorail. Is it worth the risk to try something else?

Glad to hear about your trip! We feel the exact same way about the Poly and the AKL. Love everything about Poly....love the AKL theme and lobby, but did not love the rooms at all (or the buses getting around...).

You are correct about the draw to the Epcot resorts. We do love the Beach Club very much, but we tend to focus more on Epcot and HS when we stay there. If your trip is long enough, maybe you could start at BC for a couple nights and then move to Poly for the remainder.

When we first started going to WDW, we stayed at many resorts and found our favorites (BC and Poly). However, to this day, we need to switch things up or else we feel like we're repeating the same trip. Not a bad thing since the trip was so awesome, but it's nice to experience different things. So I know what you mean about staying where you know you love versus trying something else. It's a risk. We've stayed at CR and like it a lot, but the theme is just so different from Poly's theme. I will be honest and tell you that the CR balconies made my knees weak because the building is straight up and down -- it made me nervous when my kids were on it, not that it wasn't secure but I guess I just felt a lot better at Poly on the first floor with that awesome lagoon view.

We are trying GF for the first time next month. I'm thinking it will be wonderful, though I also had initial vibes about it versus the relaxing vibe at Poly. Someone is at GF right now and posted some of his room view pics -- you should take a look on the GF thread. He is in an outer building, I believe first floor, and has a view like we LOVE at Poly. His view actually looks even better. It's building Boca Chica TPV. He just posted pics yesterday. See if this link works:

Lake view for the DVC Studios is a booking category and it looked like all the lake view rooms on the upper floors with the exception of two had nothing blocking the view. All the ground level rooms see fireworks and some see the castle between bungalows. I posted pics and video from ground level rooms looking at the castle during fireworks from my room and some others shared photos from their ground floor rooms that I posted on my Tikiman Facebook page.

I read that lifegards were saying it would open this weekend. Then someone else said they may just be patrolling the water. Looks like soon!

People reported the Oasis pool opening this weekend. From the staff I spoke to that will not happen. The earliest they see it opening is maybe February 29 but they have not even scheduled people to staff the bar and grill until mid March so no one is quite sure when it will be fully open. They all agreed it would not be this weekend.

Aside from the oasis pool, has all of the other Poly construction been completed? Thanks!

No. They are in the process of replacing the supports around all the longhouses. They completed 2 and were in process with Rarotonga when I was there a few weeks ago.

Thank you! A friend is planning a trip in March. They are longtime Poly fans and usually stay Club Level. They're debating if they should switch to Beach Club for this trip if the longhouse or pool construction would be noisy (if not complete by then). Your thoughts?

We walked by Hawaii on Wednesday morning and it looked like they were starting there. About 4-5 ground floor rooms on Oasis pool side were blocked off with workmen on site.

The pool will be done but the work on the longhouses is disruptive in my opinion and they were still booking people in rooms that has construction workers all over the patios during the work. I posted photos of the work on my Facebook page.

Yes you are right. I just got confirmation they started Hawaii on the Oasis pool side (garden view)
