Eating outside of MGM - suggestions?

I am not a big fan of any of the restaurants in MGM, and after looking at several menus on allears.net, was wondering about going over to the Swan or Boardwalk area (we love ESPN) for a late lunch - how long would it take to get over there, and what's the best (quickest way) to do it? Thanks!

Plan on 20 minutes, perhaps longer if you have to wait for the boat. It's a pleasant walk, although IMOH much too hot in the mid day summer heat.

Thanks, 20 minutes is reasonable - where do you pick up the walkway? We are going Dec. 4th, so the weather (hot) won't probable be an issue. Also, does the boat go to the Swan, and then the Boardwalk? After all of the times we've been to WDW , I have never used this transportation! In fact, where do you pick up the boat if you are in MGM?

WAlk out and stay to the far left, follow to the boat dock.

Stay straight and you'll see the walkway to the BW.

The boats change their course from time to time, so best is just ask when you get onboard wich order they are stopping in.

The Boardwalk for lunch is one of the best kept secrets at WDW. It's rarely crowded at any of the restaurants, so it is great to go over there to get a break in the middle of the day from the crowds at the parks.

If you don't want to walk all the way from MGM (and it is not a bad walk), take boat to Swan/Dolphin, get off there and walk to Boardwalk. This will usually be quicker than staying on the boat (given loading times, pulling away from the dock, speed of boat and unloading at nest stop), even if the next stop for the boat is the Boardwalk (and it will definitely be quicker if the boat is going to stop at YC/BC before going to Boardwalk).

So, to get to the Boardwalk from MGM? Take the boat to the Swan and then walk? The walkway is near the boat dock at the Swan?

We love the boardwalk. Save room for dessert and go to the bakery. It's so good. We usually take the boat all the way to the boardwalk. It's just easier with kids plus it's just nice to sit and relax. We went last dec. and the boardwalk was empty pretty much.

You can either walk from MG to the BW, or take the boat to any of the resorts around the lake and walk from there, or take the boat directly to the BW.

To get to the walkway from MGM, go slightly right after leaving the park, heading toward the bus stops. Walk along the bus stops staying on the left side. Just a little after the last bus stop (I think) there is a path that drops off quickly to the left. Follow this path under Buena Vista Drive and along the canal.

To get to the walkway from the Swan, cross the bridge to the Boardwalk, but instead of entering the Boardwalk, take the path to the right that goes alongside Boardwalk Villas next to the canal.

From the Boardwalk, you can go to the Swan end of the Boardwalk and turn left onto the path, or if you're adventuresome you can take a shortcut through Boardwalk Villas.

Jabrown40 just wanted to tell you that we are doing this same thing. Leaving MGM for BW (we chose ESPN). We are also doing this on the Same day Dec 4th. ...lol if you see us WAVE...
