Just wondering if anyone thinks the dollar will be better after the summer months? I read on another post that the upcoming long weekend has a bearing on it so I figure so wouldn't the summer months on account of extra travelers. I know we're not talking big bucks here, but I would rather the 200.00 in my pocket and not the banks!

Just keep an eye on the rate. Whenever I go to the bank I ask about the rate and then take it from there.

It just seems that whenever it's "Vacation Time" the dollar slips!

Coinkidink? Who knows.

The next two weeks are key; we'll know better by July 10 or so.

Long weekends really don't have anything to do with, it, it's not like gas. The currency rates change because of Geopolitical factors. The biggest effects on the US dollars right now is the raising interest rate in the US, Iraq handover, and a little about the Canadian Elections. Once some of that stuff happens we should know which direction it going.

I think it’s going down, but that might only be wishful thinking

Today it's trading at 1.3451 so at the banks it's somewhere around 1.37-1.38 which is down alittle.

Last week-bought US at 1.3786 today bought for 1.3635.

Just keep watching and be ready to buy small amounts when the rate is good.

If you are an CAA member, is it true that they have a better exchange rate than through the banks?

Never knew that about CAA. I have never been a member because I already have roadside assistance on my car but the benefits of membership sound pretty good what with the travel discounts and all!

VISA Traveller's Cheques?

Anybody use these? I like getting my AMEX ones! I used to get them at the CAA office but they don't carry them anymore.

The nice thing about CAA is the rate is good for the whole day-doesn't fluctuate by the second like banks do. Only thing
is they only accept cash or debit (no cheques) and they limit the amount you can exchange per day.

Look every day. It changes so much, its hard to tell. You can find the current exchange rate on the net.

Currently at 1.346-@ 3:45 at my bank-just checked it while I was there.

That's really cheap! Did they give you the right rate?;) the trading rate at 4:25 is 1.3456

I think that's all they have left. I used them last time at Disney with no problems... :)

Mom_rules -- That's a pretty good rate! What bank is that from?

RBC and yes-I bought and put it right into our US holiday account!!

I used the VISA traveller's cheques when I went there in December... no problem at all.:)

Cool! If the rate is still low (hopefully even lower :p) I may go by to pick up some US cash!

Showing 1.3573 this a.m. (by the way-there are
different exchange rates for cheques/cash, travellers cheques (they get you on the bank fees) vs inter-bank account transfers and also the greater the amount you transfer the better the exchange. If you have a good relationship with your bank people you can ask them to try different options to see what works out better.)
