While my problem isn't a really bad situations I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or can help give me advice. I was born with hip dysplasia and have been in pain as far back as I can remember but my body has blocked most of it so I don't feel it anymore. I have been very lucky, even after them determining I need a complete replacement when I was 17 (11 years ago) I don't not walk with a limp or anything.
Since I do not have cartilage between the bones anymore my body actually developed extra on either side. So about 6 years ago I tore it all the way through. Since I am very active and I do not let this slow me down the tore never fully healed.
I am trying to push off the replacement due to complications down the line due to my age and needing more than the two in my life time. (Plus I'm terrified of surgery)

What I really hope someone can help me with is I have been having knee pain due to my arthritis in my hip, which I have been to the doctor for and I have no visible knee damage. I am always on my feet does anyone have any knowledge if a knee brace my lessen some of the pressure causing pain?
Thanks in advance

I have similar issues, and can certainly sympathize. As for the knee problem did you have an MRI? There are a lot of things that can be "hidden" in/around the knee that only an MRI will show.

I would get a second opinion &/or ask about PT, both for your hip & knee. I have been getting monthly massage treatments for over a year, and it has made a TREMENDOUS difference in my hip issues.

For the short term, use ice/heat in the evenings to help with any swelling/pain. The problem with using a brace is that it can make things worse by "stiffening" the joint when in fact the joint needs to move in order to stay healthy. Beyond that my best suggestion is to get the most comfortable shoes you can find. (I have fallen in love with Sketchers GoWalks.)

Hey thank you so much for answering and helping with your advice/input. I'm sorry you've been through similar. In glad you found ways to ease some pain :) I have had an MRI of the full leg (my ankle at the time was also bothering me) and a third opinion from the hospital for special surgery a in NYC and been through pt so now I ride a bike to help. I guess no brace for the sporting event I have at this weekend I'll just ice/heat it after. I have to look into that for a daily walking shoe I have shoes I love but since I need the support I but new ones often. What type of massage do you get I'm willing to try anything to alleviate some pain?

Poor you.... I am about to be diagnosed with Classical EDS, and in the past year have torn two Rotator Cuffs, my Achilles, and now my gluteus maximus, all for NO reason.. These were actually misdiagnosed in the beginning, as I hadn't fallen, and it was just frozen shoulder, keep moving it.. etc. etc.

Now I see you have had an MRI? Did you have one with arthrography? Not pretending to be a Dr here :), just have really had to be my own advocate in the past year.. My first MRI was clear, and every time my Dr tried to touch me to examine me, I burst out in complete tears, which was VERY unlike me... He then just ordered that done, and VOILA there it was, two tears, one complete and one partial.. Not saying you have this, but I have had SO many tests done, and have just seen it..I then asked the Ortho how it could be, and he said the MRI and tears is often inconclusive, and with the arthro, then it much easier to diagnose..

Do you see an orthopedic specialist?

I'm sorry to hear you have had to go through all that, I am glad though they were able to figure it out so you are more aware of what is happening.
I'm not sure if my MRI was one with arthrography but they did catch the tear I had by my hip, I have my results in the house I wonder if it would say it on it? My orthopedics are a team of orthopedic surgeons, the main one I see specializes in hip replacements, at one of the top surgical hospitals in NYC but sometimes they can miss things as well.

Sometimes non-doctors can give better advice because they've been through it hearing advice from not one but many different medical experts. :)

Thanks ago I'm going to look into what type of MRI I had.

What type of massage do you get I'm willing to try anything to alleviate some pain?

It's just a general massage therapy session, but I made her aware of my issues from the start, so she's been working extra hard in my hip area. Whenever I go in she asks what's been bothering me, and then spends extra time on that area. My therapist knows not to do deep tissue work as that tends to make things worse for me. I need slow & steady changes, but since I go every month it's been working for me.

If you can find a really good massage THERAPIST (not just a day-salon masseuse), he/she will be able to work with you to find what works best. I saw real results withing 3 months.

I am 29 yrs old and went thru the same thing as you. I have had a lot of surgery to correct a lot of the issues, unfortunately as you know tho with hip dysplasia damage can be hard to fix. I will send you a pm with more info.
