How embarrassing! Perceptions of DVC members...

Found this on the Theme Park board tonight on a thread about guests mistreating CMs. How embarrassing that (a) people actually SAY stuff like this and (b) it causes people to form blanket opinions about DVC members!

"When we checked into Pop last year, one of the CMs at the desk was dealing with a crazy woman. Some of her family apparently decided that they wanted to vacation with her so she was trying to book 3 rooms for 4 days at the Pop...starting the next day. The CM patiently explained that they were booked solid (this was during the end of free dining and the start of the Food and Wine Festival so the resort was packed). She was yelling and insisting on seeing a manager. Apparently, she had pulled the same stunt the day before b/c the manager recognized her. She explained that they had her on a waiting list and that they would call her if three rooms came available. Not good enough. She was still yelling. They also offered to see if they could find a room elsewhere but she insisted that it must be the Pop. We were shooting dirty looks at her. The kicker was that at the end she started yelling, "But I am a DVC member. I should get special privileges." I wondered why she didn't use her points and get a place big enough for her family.

On a lighter note, we still joke when something doesn't go our way in life, "But I'm a DVC member!""

(And how much more embarrassing that I misspelled "embarrassing" and am stuck with it!)

Sounds normal to me. I yell that all the time. :rotfl2:

Oh My!!!
She must have been the same lady that was screaming at CRT when I was there. She seemed to think she could bring in an extra 10 guests on her ressie for 4. She was cursing up a blue storm and demanded to see the manager. She even pulled the "I am a DVC Member and should not be treated like this!"

the theme parks and resorts board don't like us as is - this type of situation only increases it.

if she is a DVC member why doesn't she have them stay at a DVC resort on her points.

something doesn't make sense.

how about a florida resident who promised to enable her relatives stay at Pop century - only to find it is booked.

which means they might be staying with her. Hey that would get yelling!

just back it not just dvc'ers it people in general

here is a preview of my upcoming trip report

This was our first time staying at the all stars. All stars movies are were we would spend my birthday. Upon arrial We walked around for a little bit the themeing is very cool.
The pool looked nice but was packed (first encounter with the Brazilians).
This is also where I would learn that I have been buying the wrong park tickets all these trips. After exploring the grounds I went to the desk to see if I could change a dinner reservation, the women in front of me was discussing with the desk staff her tickets.
She said she was told her group could buy a park hopper ticket and go to all four parks.
So she had a hopper and figured a 3-day hopper was going to allow her entry to 12 different parks (all good so far right) except her idea was that meant they could go to the parks 12 days.

When she told the desk staff that she had a group of 50 people with her the cast member looked like she was going to cry.:goodvibes

i was the dvcer in this story so sometimes it not us being

If someone acts up that badly, they should simply ask for their Memership Card to prove that they, indeed, are members.

Once they have the card the CM should say, "We will be shredding your card at the directions of DVC. They will send you your money back for your purchase of the timeshare and they do not want you to purchase ever again."

That ought to do it! :thumbsup2

It's sad but true... two of the "guest" groups the CM's consistently have problems with DVC and AP. There seems to be a "sub culture" of "I PAID A LOT AND I AM SPECIAL"

As a result, I don't were any AP or DVC type "logos" when in the parks....

I have once seen a Manager at OKW have a DVC member escorted from the property for phyiscally threatening the CM over his room assignment. The Manager told the jerk's wife that DVC management would contact her regarding thier membership the next business day.

So does this mean it would be in my best interest NOT to bring that beautiful tote bag with me on my first trip home:sad1:?

Reading this makes me giggle. Last night I was online having no luck finding a motel in Georgia to break up our long drive to WDW from Ohio. My DH told me to tell them we're DVC members and maybe we'd get a discount. Joking of course. :lmao:

I don't think there is any excuse whatsoever for such rude, disrespectful, idiotic behavior. EVER.
What I do want to comment on though, is that for what people pay for APs and DVC memberships, you would think Disney would try to advertise the benefits a little bit better to make owners feel a little more special. Granted, some people will NEVER be satisfied and will always expect more. But there are certain inherent expectations that go along with large, luxury purchases like DVC. And as the years have gone on, Disney has pulled back on more and more of those perks. People are naturally going to be disappointed. Maybe this should be a separate post, but I think the psychology behind luxury purchases and the expectations that go along with them are a consideration when looking at the behaviors of some of these folks.

I do want to :rotfl: at this though: "Once they have the card the CM should say, "We will be shredding your card at the directions of DVC. They will send you your money back for your purchase of the timeshare and they do not want you to purchase ever again." :rotfl: :rotfl: Toooooo funny!!!

This reminds me of the list thread from last summer....the DVC list supposedly started by a cm. That made for a good read.:thumbsup2

I've seen a rude DVC member once, sent a note to Disney Guest services, that went something like this:

"We had a great stay at the Beach Club Villas... I like the lazy river section and a man came in from the public walkway and addressed the lifeguard on duty. The lifeguard was in the island and so the man had to shout out the request over the water and so I heard it all as I swam around. This man had the demand that since he was a Disney Vacation Club member, he wanted to swim at SAB and he wanted to know why he couldn’t. I am guessing that the person giving out the wristbands denied him. The man was staying at Old Key West. The lifeguard politely referred him to the person who was giving out wrist bands, and this man preceded to go over to her and again demanded to know why he couldn’t swim in Storm Along Bay since he was a member of Disney Vacation Club.

A supervisor came over. I was hoping that she would have the “DVC rules” about pool hopping, but no, she had nothing written, but began to explain to the man that pool hopping is not allowed. I did not hear this conversation, but I did see the result. The man walked away with a bracelet on his wrist and what appeared to be 4 or 5 additional bracelets for his family over at OKW.

If being obnoxious “works” than it’s a wonder that more DVC people don’t just come up to the lifeguard/supervisor and demand admission to Storm Along Bay. I am a Disney Vacation Club Member. Staying at OKW requires fewer points than I used to stay at the Beach Club Villas. I used these extra points, not for the proximity to EPCOT, because I am an owner at Boardwalk Villas, and I could get just about the same convenience with an expenditure similar to OKW if I book standard view. I used the extra points because of Storm Along Bay.

Please…have the supervisors come prepared to show the DVC member the rules. Our Member Services clearly states, many times in what we receive at sign in, that pool hopping to Storm Along Bay and the pool at the Animal Kingdom Lodge is not allowed."

I only got a standard reply. I think Disney's actions reward rude and obnoxious behavior.

I've seen that kind of thing happen at the parks as well-not with people specifically claiming DVC "rights" but their "rights" as people who "spent a lot of money to come here and we want to do X and you have no right to stop us from doing it!!" I think many times CM's pick their battles with these types of guests. I can understand not wanting to create a larger scene and a more irate guest, but the message they are inadvertantly sending is that having a tantrum will allow you to do whatever you want.

People who are rude and obnoxious have learned that it gets them somewhere. Most people are non confrontational and rude people take advantage of that fact. Doesn't matter if it's pool hopping, pushing in front to see a parade, or stealing your parking space. :sad2:
