I will be honest and say I don't have a clue what 'most' CMs are paid, I've just heard that many are paid minimum wage and depend on extra shifts to pay the bills.
I feel many people (Disney CMs and others) live a lifestyle based on their income and losing a days (or 2 days) pay for many has the possibility to affect their ability to pay bills, etc. I think many wish it wasn't that way but sadly it's reality for many. Just my thoughts. Not trying to start a debate. I was just sharing (as others had) what happens where I work when my work location is unexpectedly closed.
I applied at Disney for office work when I moved near Orlando, and the pay rates were at least half what I was used to, and less than half what I received when I got a job with another company. They were offering even less for most park jobs and non tipped hotel jobs. I don't know what they pay now, but I would guess the variance is still similar. My sister works for a hotel that had a lot of damage during a prior hurricane and they had some sort of insurance that allowed them to keep people on the payroll when the hotel was closed for repair, at least for a while. I don't know what something like that costs, but her hotel wasn't huge so it was probably a lot cheaper than it would be for a huge employer like Disney.
