Hi, my name is Michelle, and I've been lurking on this board for quite a while but since I'm getting closer to my wedding date and I've seen PJ's from other 2012 brides, I figured I go ahead and start my pj too!
I guess I'll start my telling you a little about myself. I'm a country girl from New Mexico, but I currently live in New Hampshire; Both of my parents were in the military so we moved around a lot when I was younger. My very first job was at Walt Disney World; I worked in Entertainment, but now I work as a radiographer.
My Fiance, Nathan, is currently a student at UNH studying electrical engineering. He'll be graduating in 2012, which is why 2012 is the year of our wedding. (I wish it was sooner )
We have picked April 2 (hopefully we can get it!!!!! ) because it is my parents' wedding anniversary. My mom has cancer and I feel its one way I can honor her and my father, and it's a way to always keep them close to my heart.
The Proposal
Nathan and I had been talking about the future and what it held and we were both positive that we had found the one we wanted to spend the rest of our lives with.
On September 25, 2009, I left work early because Nathan had a special afternoon planned. Nathan told me to dress warmly because we were going to be outside, but that's all he would tell me. When he arrived at my house he made me put on a blindfold and helped me into the car.
After driving for about 45 minutes Nathan stopped the car and asked me to wait while he got his plans in order. (It's a good thing the ride wasn't any longer than that because I was starting to feel ill from being blindfolded for the drive.) Nathan helped me out of the car and led me carefully to a spot on the grass where he then pulled off the blindfold. He had set up a picnic on Mount Kearsarge in New Hampshire, complete with a huge vase of red and white roses.
He then confused me by asking, "would you like to sit down or stand up?" It took me a few minutes to figure out what he meant and so I said, "Stand up, of course!" (Ummm, Nathan, how are you suppose to get down on one knee if you're sitting?!?!?) So, Nathan got down on one knee and ask me to marry him. (He said a lot of other things too but I can't remember, it was a blur ) He then fumbled for a few minutes getting the ring out of his coat pocket because he had the ring in the ring box inside the box the jeweler put it in! I, of course, tease him relentlessly about this. But it's qualities like this that I find endearing. (Go ahead, say it....Awwwww!)
Anyway, Nathan had barely slipped the ring onto my finger when a woman comes running towards us yelling, "I just saw what happened! Congratulations! Can I see the ring?" Of course being on a mountain means the terrain isn't exactly flat and the woman, on her way towards us, trips and takes a nose dive. (Not even kidding; true story). Don't worry, the woman is resilient because she bounces back up and, not having learned anything from her tumble, continues, in haste, to us. She gawks and gushes and throws out several more "congratulations" and "when's the wedding?" when she decides to let us have our moment alone. And, of course, I took the time to get my cell phone and text my sister the good news and send pictures of the ring.
Here's the ring:
Nathan and I stayed to watch the sunset and then decided to leave because it was getting pretty chilly. I was a little hungry so I asked Nathan if he had anything else planned. He agreed that he was hungry too but asked me if it was okay to stop by his parent's place first, so they could see the ring, since it was in the area.
When we entered the house, the lights were all dim and there were candles everywhere. I turned to Nathan and stated that maybe his parents were planning a special evening and that we might be intruding. However, Nathan steered me into the dinning room where I quickly noticed that the table was set, not just for two people, but for six. I just had time to ask Nathan what was going on when both of our parents entered the dining room with huge smiles and hugs. Nathan had the whole thing planned. Dinner with the parents to celebrate the new engagement. It was a very special night.
And that's our story!
