Hi, my name is Michelle, and I've been lurking on this board for quite a while but since I'm getting closer to my wedding date and I've seen PJ's from other 2012 brides, I figured I go ahead and start my pj too!

I guess I'll start my telling you a little about myself. I'm a country girl from New Mexico, but I currently live in New Hampshire; Both of my parents were in the military so we moved around a lot when I was younger. My very first job was at Walt Disney World; I worked in Entertainment, but now I work as a radiographer.

My Fiance, Nathan, is currently a student at UNH studying electrical engineering. He'll be graduating in 2012, which is why 2012 is the year of our wedding. (I wish it was sooner  )

We have picked April 2 (hopefully we can get it!!!!! :scared:) because it is my parents' wedding anniversary. My mom has cancer and I feel its one way I can honor her and my father, and it's a way to always keep them close to my heart.

The Proposal

Nathan and I had been talking about the future and what it held and we were both positive that we had found the one we wanted to spend the rest of our lives with.

On September 25, 2009, I left work early because Nathan had a special afternoon planned. Nathan told me to dress warmly because we were going to be outside, but that's all he would tell me. When he arrived at my house he made me put on a blindfold and helped me into the car.

After driving for about 45 minutes Nathan stopped the car and asked me to wait while he got his plans in order. (It's a good thing the ride wasn't any longer than that because I was starting to feel ill from being blindfolded for the drive.) Nathan helped me out of the car and led me carefully to a spot on the grass where he then pulled off the blindfold. He had set up a picnic on Mount Kearsarge in New Hampshire, complete with a huge vase of red and white roses.

He then confused me by asking, "would you like to sit down or stand up?" It took me a few minutes to figure out what he meant and so I said, "Stand up, of course!" (Ummm, Nathan, how are you suppose to get down on one knee if you're sitting?!?!?) So, Nathan got down on one knee and ask me to marry him. (He said a lot of other things too but I can't remember, it was a blur :rotfl:) He then fumbled for a few minutes getting the ring out of his coat pocket because he had the ring in the ring box inside the box the jeweler put it in! :rotfl2: I, of course, tease him relentlessly about this. But it's qualities like this that I find endearing. (Go ahead, say it....Awwwww!)

Anyway, Nathan had barely slipped the ring onto my finger when a woman comes running towards us yelling, "I just saw what happened! Congratulations! Can I see the ring?" Of course being on a mountain means the terrain isn't exactly flat and the woman, on her way towards us, trips and takes a nose dive. (Not even kidding; true story). Don't worry, the woman is resilient because she bounces back up and, not having learned anything from her tumble, continues, in haste, to us. She gawks and gushes and throws out several more "congratulations" and "when's the wedding?" when she decides to let us have our moment alone. And, of course, I took the time to get my cell phone and text my sister the good news and send pictures of the ring.

Here's the ring:

Nathan and I stayed to watch the sunset and then decided to leave because it was getting pretty chilly. I was a little hungry so I asked Nathan if he had anything else planned. He agreed that he was hungry too but asked me if it was okay to stop by his parent's place first, so they could see the ring, since it was in the area.

When we entered the house, the lights were all dim and there were candles everywhere. I turned to Nathan and stated that maybe his parents were planning a special evening and that we might be intruding. However, Nathan steered me into the dinning room where I quickly noticed that the table was set, not just for two people, but for six. I just had time to ask Nathan what was going on when both of our parents entered the dining room with huge smiles and hugs. Nathan had the whole thing planned. Dinner with the parents to celebrate the new engagement. It was a very special night.
And that's our story!

Welcome! :goodvibes

Your engagement story is so cute!

I'm sorry to hear about your Mom and think it's a lovely idea to get married on their anniversary :goodvibes

2012 may be a long way away but I'm sure it'll roll around quickly! I'm itching to start a PJ but my DFTW is likely not going to be until 2014! :sad2:

Can't wait to see your plans!

Nathan and I are planning on a wishes wedding. Our theme is going to be "Country Rustic". We were planning on getting married in a beautifully renovated barn in Massachusetts but when we realized it would actually cheaper to have a wedding at Disney, of course we jumped at the chance.

I don't have too much planned but I do have some ideas.

I like neutral colors so we've decided (unless I change my mind, which I'm apt to do because sometimes I can't make a decision to save my life) but so far, the colors are going to be varying shades of brown. So, chocolate & champagne probably.

Attire

Also, to add my country theme into a Disney wedding, I'm going to be wearing cowboy boots with my dress. My bridesmaids and matron of honor are going to be wearing shorter dresses (maybe tea length) with cowboy boots. I don't have the dresses picked yet, and I'm thinking champagne colored dresses. It all depends on the color of Nathan's suit or tux. Right now, this is what Nathan and I agree he should wear.

Here are examples of my ideas of tying in the cowboy boots...

Here are some of my ideas for floral and decorations.

I love peonies and anemones. They're my favorite flowers along with sunflowers. My ideal bridal bouquet would consist of big white and pale pink peonies, with white anemones with the big brown center scattered throughout.

here are some anemone bouquets..

I also like these floral arrangements...

The bridesmaids bouquets will probably consist of gerber daisies. I just love them.

Horseshoes with cards will be on a table for the escort cards, like this....

I'm looking at these "plantable" name cards for the place cards.

Here is the cake I love but I would have it with champagne colored ribbons and chocolate colored scrolls.

I also, love this cake...

Well, that's all the ideas I have for now. I haven't gone dress shopping yet. I still have plenty of time  (Which is a good thing because there are so many styles that I really like that I have no idea what I want). My sister is coming up to visit me in July so maybe we'll make a visit to a couple dress shops.

Please let me know what you think so far! I would love your input!

Thanks for the welcome! I hope it does roll around quickly...for your sake and mine! :rotfl:

Congrats and welcome! Your proposal story is so cute and what a nice way to end the evening by celebrating with both sets of parents. I'm sorry about your mom's illness but I do think having the wedding on their wedding date is a great way to honor both your parents.

I really like your theme, I haven't seen anything like that before and I think it's very unique. I like the second cake best, but I love horses.

Have you thought about locations yet? I'm not sure if they do receptions and things like that at Fort Wilderness but that could give you the rustic feel you're going for.

I *love love love* your theme! I love country music and I've been a linedancer since I was 7 years old! The idea of wearing boots with the dresses is fantastic! I have so many pairs but my DF doesn't share the same feelings as me! We're going to be having a 'linedancing reception' when we get back though, for all my sane friends :rotfl:

Your plans sound very 'country chic'! :goodvibes

Looking forward to seeing how they develop :cutie:

The plans are adorable...and I laughed out loud at the woman taking a nose dive, that is awesome lol

Thank you! When I call Disney in October (the 18 month mark) I'm going to ask about the Wilderness Lodge. It would be really neat if they had a place for a reception. If not I was thinking of doing the rehearsal dinner at the Hoop-De-Doo Musical revue! Wouldn't that be fitting! :rotfl:

:goodvibes Thank you so much! I'm so glad that you like my ideas! Your reception sounds like it's going to be so much fun!!!! You have to be sure to post pictures! I'll be keeping my eye out for them! popcorn::

Thank you. The woman was pretty funny! Her husband kept looking at us apologetically but we were fine with it! It sounds like something my mother would do!

:cloud9: Today I headed down to Boston to attend the trunk show that Priscilla of Boston was having. A few days ago I found a Priscilla dress online that I absolutely loved and since I had the day off today I figured I would go out and look at all the dresses, but I had that one particular one in mind. I really wasn't planning on buying a dress since the wedding is still so far off but I thought it might help me narrow down my search since I love so many different styles (fit and flare, trumpet, ball, a-line, empire wasted...get the idea ); I really had no idea what exactly I wanted but there was this one dress that I just fell in love with and thought it was totally me. (Plus, it fits my rustic country theme). I didn't have my hopes up too high on this one though because I know how you can find a dress absolutely stunning on the designer model but when you put it on yourself it can become quite monstrous looking. So, I gave my consultant a list of dresses that I liked but I told her which one was my favorite and a few minutes later she brought in a couple, one of each of the styles, plus my favorite. I wish I had remembered my camera so I could show ya'll the pictures :upsidedow

Anyway, the first dress I tried of course was my favorite and as soon as I put it on I started to laugh and tear up. It was such a beautiful dress and I actually didn't look horrible in it! I walked out into the main area where both my parents were sitting (I brought them along with me) and they both got instantly excited about it as well as telling me that the dress was perfect and that it was my personality exactly. Then the consultant brought out the veil that goes with the dress ( a cathedral mantilla-like veil...which is funny because I wanted a long mantilla veil) and I wanted to cry when she put it on me but I settled for yelling, "this is my dress, this is my dress!" and I stayed in it for a while admiring the style and the fabric as well as thinking that I really needed to lose a few pounds :scared:.

Anyway, knowing that I should try on other dresses before making my decision the consultant brings me back in to the changing room to put on the others which were all beautiful but they were not my dream dress (not to mention a couple made me look like a sack of potatoes!) Since I knew that this particular dress had won my heart and I couldn't possibly compare any other styles (since I tried them all on) I went with my heart and gut and bought the dress and veil. So, without further ado (sorry for the long winded rambling) here's my dress....Priscilla of Boston's "Fern" from the Melissa Sweet line

I LOVE the dress! It is so perfect for a country theme!! It's so funny when I went dress shopping with my sister she kept asking if she looked like a sack of potatoes! How did that phrase ever get associated with wedding dresses??? LOL

Your engagement story is adorable! I can't wait to hear about more of your plans. I agree that Fort Wilderness could be very appropriate. Have you ever thought about riding a horse down the isle?

I love that dress. Very beautiful, but you definitely get that "country" feel.

Yes, it does seem like a gown you could dress up or dress down!

Thank you! Lol, I really did look like a sack of potatoes in some of them because I'm short and the sample dresses were made for really tall people; some dresses had soooo much material that it really did make me look quite ridiculous. As for riding a horse down the aisle, I really did want to do this when I was little! :rotfl:

My sister, who is also my matron of honor, is going to be flying up from Kansas in July so I would like to get an idea of possible bridesmaid dresses so I can have her try them on when she's out here. I'm having 3 people in my bridal party and unfortunately they all live in different parts of the country so she's going to be my model and help me find the dress that will flatter the 3 of them and go with my country rustic theme.

I was planning on having them wear champagne colored dresses but since my dress is "ivory" to me it looks more of a champagne-ish color so I'm having trouble deciding what color I should go with. I'm even reconsidering the tan suits for the guys because I don't want my dress to blend in too much. I'd like to stand out a little :rolleyes1 I guess I'll decide on the bridesmaids dresses and color first and then I'll tackle the men.

So possible colors I'm considering are pale pink, brown, or sage green.

These are the dresses and colors I'm leaning towards. The first 3 styles are from Watters & Watters and the 4th is David's bridal. What do you guys think? (keep in mind they have to look good with these cowboy boots).

:yay: Yay! I got my horseshoes for the escort table and the place cards in the mail. Now I'm trying to decide if I want to paint them or leave them alone.
Ahhh!!! I'm getting married! It's starting to feel so real now....BUT it still so far away....!
