Niagra Falls...do you have a side preference???

We are going to be there May 29 (very late mind you) - June 1. We already possibly have Cedar Point for Saturday after dh gets out of his meetings and on Friday - it's still up in the air but I might be seeing if I can hook up with Jiminy102 for during the day but still up in the air. DH is also going for another meeting the end of March so he might do some things that dd and I can do on our own and not have to worry about leaving him out of.

Canadian!!
Hope to talk DW into driving up their after TC's meet!!

Another vote for the Canadian side. It takes us about 4 hours to get to Canada.

LMK when/where you'll be in Cleveland. I am only 30 minutes away. :)

We took DSs to Niagara Falls 2 years ago. We stopped on the American side to see what we could see from there....not much... Then continued over the bridge to the Canadian side and it was BEAUTIFUL. We stayed in the new Hilton which overlooks the falls. From the Canadian side, you can see ALL of the falls, full view....very beautiful!! Also the park runs along the length of the falls (the falls themselves appear to be on the American side, which is why you get such a great view from the Canadian side!). The park is gorgeous and extremely well-maintained.

I have some pics of our NF trip on our "Family Vacations" web site, if anyone wants to take a look. :)

Well it appears now that I will need a dinner date for May 30!!!! We get in sometime on the 29th and dh has meetings all day on the 30th and will probably be going to the ballgame (Indians vs Sox - can't get any better than that) but I don't feel like going and be sat on by the Indians fans (have done that many times in Chicago). So I will put a post up tomorrow and see what interest there might be. I know it's a ways out but at least we can get an idea if anyone would like to join us. I think I'm going to try and meet up with Jiminy102 that day if all works out but will probably be available for dinner that night.

Good question!!! Especially since my son has talked me into taking him this summer. I plan on staying on the Canadian side. I'm in the process of deciding which hotel we will stay in. He has his heart set on the Ramada Fallsview with a room overlooking the falls. It's a boutique hotel in the Minolta tower. Don't know if I'm too crazy about that. Anyone try the Brock Plaza or have any other suggestions of a hotel with a Fallsview?

Canada side. We went in 2000 and loved it. We plan on going back soon, maybe the end of May following towncrier's meet.

Both sides have great things to offer as far as the Falls itself is concerned. I love taking the tram ride and getting off at Goat Island, on the American side. Chernabog is right, the Amercan Cave of the Winds is incredible. You are literally walking right through the falls. The Canadian side's version is a series of tunnels where you come out and "see the back side of the falls". (sorry-Disney reference there) The Canadian side does offer more touristy things other than the falls, too. The view is incredible no matter which side you're on. :D

We like the Canadian side much better than the US side. It's pretty in the winter also. We also like to visit everything along the parkway on the Canadian side. Tons to do.

We venture over to the Canadian side once in awhile....(like every other week ;)) for the casino.

If you go to www.casinoniagara.com you can join the Players advantage club. It's free to join and you get a card. The card gets you freebies when you plug it into the slot machines or give it to a dealer while you play the tables. You also can book CHEAP hotel rooms through them that include $20 worth of tokens for the casino. Priceline can't even beat the players advantage club on hotel room rates.

The new casino on the American side just opened up and I hear its really nice. It's 21 and over and they serve free alcohol. Hopefully that will help build up the city. It's not in great condition right now.

One of the most awesome spectacles of nature. Loved the trips we have had there. Canadian vote also. But make sure to do the walking over on the American side on Luna and Goat Islands, between the American and Canadian sides.

So I may be hooking up with a friend that lives in Pittsburgh that day and getting into trouble ;) I mean...not getting into trouble!!!! ROFL

I believe getting into trouble was the correct term Chris!!!

I've only been to the Canada side. My family lives in Erie, so when I was young and lived there, we took a lot of day trips to Niagara Falls. It was only about 1 1/2 - 2 hours away. Now I live at the other end of PA and I haven't been to Niagara Falls in a long time.

Chris--you are aware that Pittsburgh/Cleveland is about 2 -3 hours away driving depending on traffic and where you are starting...

Just thought I would mention that. It looks so close on a map, but in reality, it can be pretty far.

I loved living in Cleveland, one of my favorite places that we have lived. There is many things to do during the day there.. Rock Hall/ Science Musuem/ Classic Car Musuem in the Museum area, plus lots of other stuff...

Im from the canadian side of the falls, if you have any questions, please let me know. Hope you enjoy your holiday.

Laura -- all of my family still lives in Erie! Born and raised an Erie-ite (is that a word? :p)

Dan -- LOL! Ok, I stand corrected! Go see the falls before 3003, when it'll be located somewhere in upstate NY! :teeth:

This is a great thread! I would like to go there this summer, so any info is appreciated. I have a question. What hotels would be good choices? I am thinking about the Marriott fallsview. Has anyone been to it?
