I'm looking for a NON-WDW hotel or condo that is within walking distance to a WDW transportation bus stop, etc. Perhaps a hotel accross the street or down a short block from an actual WDW hotel, or some sort of WDW establishment where I could simply walk accross the street to catch a bus to the parks..

Thanks....

Not really any options. WDW is very big and the "non Disney" hotels are pretty far away. You might need to look at some maps to get the scale we are talking about. Non-Disney can be a few miles from anything Disney owned and sidewalks for the most part are non existent!

Your options are Swan/Dolphin in the Epcot area which are serviced by the Disney transporation.

Hotels in DTD (Hilton, Regal Sun, Buena Vista Palace, Best Western and Doubletree) are within walking distance of DTD (Some closer then others) BUT the DTD buses do not go to a park so you have to go to another hotel and walk or bus to a park. Plus buses start running FROM DTD to the hotels an hour or so after DTD opens (9:30 to 10 AM in other words) DTD hotels do have decent tranport to the parks.

WDW is the size of the city of San Francisco. Almost nothing is within walking distance to anything else.

Well, it's easier to walk around San Francisco then Disney. San Francisico has sidewalks!

- OK, so other than the Swan/Dolphin and the Hotels in DTD, what "Non-Disney" hotels have really good transportation?

- Where do the "Non-Disney" transportation drop you off at? All parks or just one particular spot?

True, but WDW is flat, so I figure it's a wash.

-brian, who used to live in Berkeley, and knows about walking those hills first hand.

there aren't any with good transportation.

the DD hotels have fairly good - it comes every 30 minutes.

then
Wyndham Bonnet Creek - it goes every 30 minutes to an hour.

comfort Inn lbv has reasonable.

Disney transportation every 20 minutes(or less) - you are not going to find offsite.

if you can't drive then it is better to stay at WDW resort - the values are nice.

otherwise is you want to stay offsite it is better to rent a car. (if you are flying)

Only you can define what is really good transportation based upon your willingness to wait, patience, crowd levels, schedule to wait on free transportation.

IMO, Non-Disney hotels have really good transportation if you have your own car. Off site hotel transportation (and Disney buses for Disney hotels for that matter) is not really good transportation for us. We prefer to put the schedule of our transportation in our hands and control our destiny during our vacation.

We stayed offsite twice. The first time, the hotel (which has different owners now so I'm not bothering with the name) had a couple buses in the morning but you had to reserve your space the night before. Anyone who showed up at the bus without a reservation didn't get on. Coming home was a pain. There were hourly buses but it was first come first serve and often there were too many people for the bus. Not everyone got on and those that didn't had to wait an hour in the middle of the parking lot for the next bus. It was very stressful wondering if we were going to make it or not.

The second time we stayed off site we drove to the park every day. It was so much nicer being in control of when we could come and go.

I would never stay off site without a car.
