She is going to work on her bachelor's degree. She was one of those students who was just not ready for more school, needed to get out there and figure out for herself that she needed to do the school work in order to get employment that pays.
Sometimes it takes working for a while to realize that your Mom wasn't so dumb about the need to go to school.
I'm glad she has seen that an education can help - I took a year out between high school and university, it really helped me to focus when I got back to school and I got to do some fun stuff in the meantime!
Best of luck to her!
I am ashamed to admit that I am one of these people too. I was extremely immature (graduated HS at 17) when I went to college and I was the only one in my close group of friends at home that went away to college. I was very homesick and ended up just partying and goofing off and my grades showed it. My parents were heartbroken as I had been an A student in HS but was now on scholastic probation.
Well I dropped out of college to "get my head on straight" and worked several jobs to try and figure out what I wanted to be. My epiphany came on a day in August as I was having to swing a sledgehammer to drive in 100+ spikes in the brutal Texas heat. It was at that exact moment that I said "**** this...I am going to back to school as I sure in the heck don't want to do this for a living!". So I saved up some money for a few months and then went back to school getting a BS in Mathematics as well as my teaching certificate. My father says my decision to go back to school still ranks as one of the happiest moments in his life. Unfortunately, it did take that big smack in the face for me to confront reality and make this important decision in my life.
I hope that whatever route she goes works out for her as well.
